## In short

Wolhadong is a Korean gomtang (beef bone soup) restaurant tucked inside an alley off Insadong 8-gil in Jongno, Seoul. Stopping by after errands near Anguk, the writer and her husband each ordered a bowl of the signature Wolha Gomtang (12,000 won) and paired the clean, light broth with cool, crisp kimchi. A light eater by habit, the writer still emptied almost all of the rice and meat — an easy, unfussy meal for two.

My husband and I had some errands near Anguk, and I was craving warm soup, so we stopped by Wolhadong.

## Wolhadong: a quiet gomtang restaurant inside an Insadong 8-gil alley

Wolhadong is a Korean gomtang (beef bone soup) restaurant at 16-1 Insadong 8-gil, 1F, Jongno-gu, Seoul. I love gomtang and was looking for a good spot near Anguk-dong when I found this place — it sits quietly inside an alley in Anguk-dong, and I liked the vibe from the entrance already.

I prefer eating somewhere quiet over a crowded spot, and Wolhadong had that calm, understated atmosphere that made it easy to sit and eat comfortably with my husband.

It matched the mood of the Anguk alley outside so well that I felt good just walking in for lunch.

## Inside Wolhadong: interior mood and table spacing

Walking into Wolhadong, the inside was bigger than I expected, and the tables weren't crammed together, so we could sit comfortably. Even though it's a Korean restaurant, it wasn't overly traditional in feel — instead it had...

> A clean, tidy space with a subtle sense of style.

It was a good place to talk quietly and have a meal.

## Wolhadong menu and prices

We ordered the signature dish — Wolha Gomtang! At ₩12,000 a bowl, we each got our own.

## What the Wolha Gomtang broth tastes like

When the Wolha Gomtang arrived, my first impression was how tidy it looked. I tried the broth first, one spoonful, and — oh, it's genuinely clean and light.

![Neatly presented bowl of Wolha Gomtang](https://img.superchart.com/images/insadong-gomtang-couple-lunch-wolhadong/insadong-gomtang-couple-lunch-wolhadong-07-1m5ue-900.webp)

It's not the kind of broth that feels greasy or heavy going down — it's clean and comfortable. If you're looking for gomtang near Anguk-dong and prefer a light style over a thick, rich broth, this would suit you well.

That said, it's not so mild it's bland — it's the kind of flavor that quietly keeps pulling your spoon back, and before I knew it my bowl was nearly empty. Partway through, I added a bit of chili oil.

Adding chili oil to the clean broth completely changed the feel, and that was delicious too. I'd recommend starting off eating it plain, then mixing in chili oil partway through for a bit of variety!

## How does Wolhadong's gomtang pair with the kimchi?

What I really loved about Wolhadong was the kimchi (fermented cabbage) served alongside. Gomtang really needs good kimchi to go with it.

The kimchi was refreshing with a crisp, crunchy texture still intact, and it paired really well with the clean gomtang broth. A spoonful of broth, then a bite of kimchi on top — that's exactly the combination I love.

When it comes to Korean gomtang near Anguk-dong, the pairing of broth and kimchi really matters, and Wolhadong nailed that combination especially well.

## A bowl of gomtang even a light eater nearly finished

My husband must have loved it too — he finished every last drop of broth, literally. He usually eats well, but seeing him clean out even the broth made me laugh, haha.

I'm normally a light eater and usually leave quite a bit even when I order just one bowl, but that day I finished almost everything too. I ate nearly all the rice and meat and only left a little broth.

For someone who eats as little as I do, finishing this much means I genuinely enjoyed it. If you're looking for Korean gomtang near Anguk-dong that's clean and easy on the stomach, Wolha Gomtang was a solid choice.

## Why Wolhadong suits a quiet meal near Anguk and Insadong

This seems like a great stop especially if you're wandering around Anguk or Insadong and suddenly crave something warm and Korean. It's quiet and fairly spacious inside, so it's better suited to a relaxed meal with your husband or a friend than a quick solo bite.

Outside, the neighborhood is busy and a little chaotic, but once you step inside, the atmosphere turns calm — I liked that it felt like a little break in the middle of the day.

You know those days when you're not craving anything spicy or intense, just something clean and warm? On days like that, if you're looking for Korean gomtang near Anguk-dong, I'd recommend trying a bowl of Wolha Gomtang at Wolhadong.

Next time, I think I'll eat it plain at first again, then add chili oil partway through, along with that refreshing, crunchy kimchi.

Both my husband and I walked out having eaten a proper bowl each — a satisfying meal.
