I was in Jongno and got a craving for bread, so I went to Munhwa Bakery, an Ikseon-dong bakery that's gotten a lot of word-of-mouth buzz.

It's near Jongno 3-ga Station, so it's a nice easy stop while wandering around Ikseon-dong.

Munhwa Bakery, this Ikseon-dong bakery everyone raves about, isn't a place you eat in — it's a takeout-only bakery.

## First impressions of Munhwa Bakery: waiting to enter two at a time

Even as a takeout-only shop, it was a small but very clean-looking spot! They let about two people in at a time, so I waited a bit for the people ahead of me before going in. A word-of-mouth favorite really is different, haha!

Finally inside~ and the breads on display were absolutely mouthwatering. The visuals alone were top-tier!

Since there's no separate parking lot, my husband waited in the car — public transit is more convenient than driving here. Hours can change, and they're closed on Chuseok day, so definitely check before you visit.

## Inside Munhwa Bakery: only bread baked that same day

Munhwa Bakery, this Ikseon-dong favorite, has a long, narrow layout. The space isn't big, but the bread was neatly displayed, which made a great first impression.

The bread isn't left exposed to the open air but kept behind an enclosed display, which gave off a hygienic feel that made me think the bread would taste fresher and better. What I especially liked was that Munhwa Bakery only sells bread made that same day.

Any unsold bread is apparently donated to people in need, like children who don't get enough meals or elderly people living alone — I found that pretty impressive too.

I ended up choosing two things: garlic bread and an onion bagel. Both are apparently among the famous menu items at this Ikseon-dong bakery favorite, so I picked both.

## What the garlic bread tastes like: moist inside

First, the garlic bread was way softer and moister than I expected. Unlike the crisp, firm garlic bread you usually picture, the inside was moist, making for a soft eating experience.

The garlic flavor was also nice and not too dense, so I kept reaching for more. It's exactly the style of garlic bread I like, so I ate it happily.

The onion bagel also really won me over. It didn't have that typically tough, chewy bagel texture, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy,

and the onion cream inside was exactly the style I like too. The soft cream paired well with the bagel, and it's a flavor that kept coming to mind afterward. If I go back to Munhwa Bakery, this Ikseon-dong bakery favorite, I think I'd pick the garlic bread and onion bagel again.

The bread I bought was cut into bite-sized pieces with scissors, so it was ready to eat right away. It was neatly packed and put into a paper shopping bag with the Munhwa Bakery logo, a nice finishing touch.

After actually trying it, I thought, "Oh~ so this kind of bakery existed in Jongno," about Munhwa Bakery, this Ikseon-dong favorite. Both the moist garlic bread and the soft onion bagel were satisfying,
