## In short

Gukgojip is a charcoal-grill Korean BBQ restaurant in the office district near Yangjae Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The meal covered two servings of handmade fresh pork galbi, seasoned beef galbisal (boneless short rib) and chogye naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled broth): the thick-cut pork galbi stayed juicy over the strong charcoal heat, while the garlic-based seasoned beef galbisal was mild enough to taste the meat itself. With a spacious room and large tables, Gukgojip suits a casual team dinner.

There are quite a few offices near Yangjae Station, so there's no shortage of good BBQ spots for team dinners around here. Among them, Gukgojip stood out — reasonable prices, solid meat quality, and a good lineup of side dishes. I tried the delicious fresh pork galbi and seasoned beef galbi salt there! It's the kind of place where you can get good-quality pork and beef with a drink or two without breaking the bank.

Gukgojip is especially known for its spacious dining room and large tables, which make it popular for casual team dinners! But the food is clean and put-together enough that it'd work fine for a date too.

## Gukgojip side dishes, condiments and the soybean pulp stew

![Condiments of wasabi, salted hairtail intestine, ssamjang, and salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-07-1plwy-966.webp)

The side dishes at Gukgojip — white kimchi, gungchae jangajji (pickled aster stem), scallion kimchi, pickled onion, and more — came out quite clean and well made. The condiments to pair with the meat were also generous: wasabi, salted hairtail intestine, ssamjang, and salt, so you could enjoy the meat in a lot of different ways!

![Bean-curd stew served as a basic side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-08-ceyk7-966.webp)

The basic side dish was a bean-curd stew — slightly spicy but clean-tasting, with real appeal!! Honestly, this one side dish alone could take down a bottle of soju. No funky fermented smell, just a clean, light flavor — the kind of bean-curd stew anyone would enjoy.

## What's on the lunch menu at Gukgojip?

![Menu board showing Gukgojip's lunch menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-10-1s081-966.webp)

For lunch, they serve everything from soup-and-rice dishes like Andong gukbap, seolleongtang, and galbitang, to a can't-go-wrong jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), and even meat set menus in the ₩10,000 range — if I worked in the neighborhood, I honestly think I'd come every day haha. There are combo sets too, which makes it easy when you can't decide. And in summer, plenty of customers come specifically for the cold noodles. Honestly, the lunch lineup is good enough that you could eat here every day of the week and not get bored.

## Two servings of handmade fresh pork galbi: thick-cut and full of juices

With so many meat options, I went back and forth before ordering the most distinctive-looking one — two servings of handmade fresh pork galbi — and wow... seriously highly recommend 🥹 Best pork I've had recently. Pork BBQ spots in general have gotten really good lately, so honestly it's hard to go wrong anywhere, but among fresh pork galbi places, Gukgojip's quality was truly a cut above. They also grill scallions and kkwari peppers alongside — grilling them together brings out a sweet, savory flavor.

![Fresh galbi on the charcoal grill with scallions and kkwari peppers](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-14-x844o-966.webp)

![Thick fresh galbi cooking on the charcoal grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-15-bizh0-966.webp)

![Grilled pork galbi with juices running](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-16-1fq43-966.webp)

The meat itself is really thick, and grilling it fast over strong charcoal heat makes the juices go crazy ❤️ Not a hint of chewiness — it just melts in your mouth, almost doesn't feel like pork?! That said, the fat content is on the higher side, so eating a lot can get a bit greasy — two servings is plenty for two people, and I'd recommend ordering other dishes alongside it.

![A stand for setting aside fully cooked meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-17-1y6c6-966.webp)

The heat is so strong that the meat cooks fast, which seems to make the juices even richer. They also give you a little stand, so you can set aside the fully cooked pieces without letting them burn — nice touch.

![A piece of fresh galbi dipped in salt and salted hairtail intestine](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-18-1hs1s-966.webp)

It's delicious even just dipped in salt, but adding wasabi or salted hairtail intestine brings a whole new charm! With so many condiments to choose from, you never get tired of it. And popping a piece of white kimchi in between totally resets your palate.

![A glass of beer alongside the grilled meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-19-wcujb-966.webp)

Beer just goes down so easily with this 🥰 Usually people pair BBQ with soju, but since there's a bit of fat here, beer pairs perfectly 🍻🍺

## Seasoned beef galbisal: a mild garlic base that lets the meat show

![A plate of Gukgojip's seasoned beef galbi salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-20-1wmkg-966.webp)

![Seasoned beef galbi salt on the charcoal grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-21-k7bv1-m-966.webp)

![Close-up of cooked seasoned beef galbi salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-22-142n2-966.webp)

The seasoned beef galbi salt came in a pretty generous portion for beef galbi. The seasoning was mild, so it was easy to keep eating without feeling heavy! When the seasoning is too strong, it tends to mask the beef's own flavor, but here I could enjoy both the natural taste of the meat and the seasoning. It's garlic-based, so it's a flavor that pretty much everyone likes haha.

## Order the chogye naengmyeon on the side

![Chogye naengmyeon with glutinous barley noodles and toppings](https://img.superchart.com/images/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi/gukgojip-yangjae-pork-rib-beef-galbi-23-3x16k-966.webp)

Make sure you order this chogye naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled chicken broth) as a side dish. The noodles are made with glutinous barley, so unlike regular noodles they don't break apart — they're chewy — and the tangy-sweet broth is perfect as an accompaniment to drinks!!! It's loaded with white kimchi, egg, cucumber, and chicken breast, making it the best summer treat 🐣

If you're looking for a good restaurant near Dogok-dong with great meat, head to Gukgojip near Yangjae Station and enjoy the juicy grilled meat along with a solid lineup of side dishes!
