It was one of those weekday evenings when I really wanted a proper meal. Not something too light, but not as heavy as meat either.

That's when kodari-jjim (braised dried pollock) came to mind. Spicy sauce mixed with rice, plus a stone-pot rice on the side — that combo really fills you up. So I headed to Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga (한상차림코다리명가). If you're looking for a good kodari restaurant around Ruwon City in Gajeong-dong, Seohae, Incheon, this place is worth checking out.

## Inside the Ruwon City branch: spacious and comfortable

The inside of the restaurant was more spacious than I expected. The tables weren't packed too tightly together, so it didn't feel cramped for a weekday dinner.

On the wall were posters about the story of Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga, how to eat the braised pollock, and info about the nutritious stone-pot rice. Having these explanations made it easy to figure out how to eat, even on a first visit.

There was also a separate self-serve bar. The first spread of side dishes is set out by the staff, and you take extra banchan yourself as needed.

We ordered the weekday dinner set for two. It comes with two servings of pollock, two stone pots of rice, and siraegi. It costs ₩37,000, and this menu is only available when ordering for two people.

![Menu board at Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-14-9vwad-900.webp)

The menu also had a good range of options — spicy braised pollock, pollock and octopus stew, whelk salad, grilled fish. But for a first visit, the set for two looked like the cleanest choice.

## How spicy is the basic spice level at Hangsangcharim?

Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga lets you adjust the spice level, and I went with the basic (mild) option. Spoiler: it was the right call.

![Braised pollock with basic-level spicy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-16-1lr9i-900.webp)

The sauce looked pretty deep in color, but it wasn't a style that's just spicy for the sake of it.

The sweet-and-spicy sauce soaked well into the pollock flesh, and the seasoning really comes alive when eaten with rice.

![양념이 밴 코다리 살 집어 든 모습](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-17-3bxmh-900.webp)

![Sweet-and-spicy pollock flesh eaten with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-18-1xtwn-900.webp)

If it had been too mild it would've been a letdown, and if it had been spicier it might've been a bit much to finish. For my taste, the basic level was the safest choice.

## Kodari with siraegi: why the combination works

![Generous sauce piled on the pollock and siraegi](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-19-xcd1b-900.webp)

Even in the photo you can see how generously the sauce is piled on. Coating the pollock flesh in that sauce made it the perfect match for rice.

What really stuck with me was having siraegi served alongside. Eating just the pollock keeps the spice going nonstop, but the siraegi steps in with a savory note that balances things out.

![Gim wrap with rice, pollock flesh, and a chili on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-20-1tz71-900.webp)

The signs suggest putting rice on a sheet of gim (dried seaweed), topping it with sauce-coated pollock flesh, and adding a chili for extra flavor — definitely worth trying it this way.

## Stone-pot rice and the crispy rice crust at the end

One strength of Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga is that it's not just the braised pollock — a stone-pot rice comes with it. Topping the warm rice with the pollock sauce makes the meal feel much more substantial.

The stone-pot rice even leaves a crispy crust at the end, which made this weekday dinner quite filling. If it had just been a regular bowl of rice, it probably would've been less memorable — the stone pot really brought the meal to life.

## Who this Gajeong-dong kodari restaurant suits

- Anyone looking for a place to eat kodari-jjim in Incheon
- Anyone looking for a Korean restaurant near Ruwon City for a family meal
- Anyone who wants a filling meal of spicy braised fish with stone-pot rice

It's a solid choice for a meal with parents, or just for a weekday dinner.

## Who might leave disappointed

![Pot of braised pollock sauce, partly eaten](https://img.superchart.com/images/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set/incheon-gajeongyeok-kodari-two-person-set-21-1uys8-900.webp)

If you're expecting really intense heat, the basic spice level might feel mild. In that case, bumping up the spice level would be a better choice. Also, if you're not a fan of the distinctive seasoning of braised fish dishes, this menu might not be for you.

Hangsangcharim Kodari Myeongga was the kind of restaurant that leaves you feeling like you had a proper meal on a weekday evening. The mild spice sauce suited me perfectly, and honestly the siraegi and stone-pot rice stuck with me even more than the pollock itself.
