## In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a Blue Ribbon-listed Korean beef bulgogi restaurant in Michuhol, Incheon, on the ground floor of the Sinsegye Building. A set of Korean beef bulgogi for two, plus oval-shaped mandu (dumpling) noodle-style sarium and grilled spicy squid, came with a free egg to poach in the copper-plate broth and mini bulgogi burgers made with dinner rolls, and the portions were so generous the writer could barely finish. With naengmyeon (cold noodles), omija tea, and ice cream to close things out, it made for a satisfying family meal.

On the way home after a date with my daughter in Juan, we stopped by Dongchuwon Bulgogi, a well-known restaurant in Hagik-dong. Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a bulgogi place in Incheon featured in the Blue Ribbon Survey, and personally, I've never had a bad experience at a Blue Ribbon-listed restaurant, so I went in with high expectations haha. And after eating there, not only was it delicious, but the portions were seriously huge. My daughter loved that we even got to have ice cream after the meal. Let me start this review of Dongchuwon, a solid Blue Ribbon restaurant in Incheon that turned out to be a great family dinner spot.

## Location and parking for Dongchuwon Bulgogi in Hagik-dong

![Exterior of Dongchuwon Bulgogi on the 1st floor of the Sinsegye Building on Hagikso-ro](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-02-jqhqg-966.webp)

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is located at 67 Hagikso-ro, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, South Korea, on the first floor of the Sinsegye Building. It's not far from Singi Market or the Hagik-dong legal district, so it's worth a visit if you have plans in the area. The nearby public parking lots do offer parking fee support, but I found there weren't many spots available. In practice, parking at Seonjeong Parking Lot was more convenient — just search 'Hagikso-ro 66' on your navigation and you'll find it easily.

## A Blue Ribbon regular run by a certified meat master

![Entrance of Dongchuwon Bulgogi with Blue Ribbon selection sign](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-03-1h1u5-966.webp)

Dongchuwon Bulgogi has appeared in the Blue Ribbon Survey for several years running. It's been operating as a bulgogi specialist in Incheon for a long time, and it's run by a nationally certified meat master, having even been featured on TV shows like Tasty Guys. So I had high expectations going in. As the saying goes, there's nothing to eat at a famous feast — I've been let down before chasing hype alone — but places that make it into the Blue Ribbon Survey usually earn that reputation for a reason, so I tend to trust it. Dongchuwon Bulgogi being a Blue Ribbon spot made me think it'd be good haha, and in the end, I was completely satisfied again.

## Old-style Korean beef bulgogi, great for the whole family

![Copper hot plate cooking old-style Korean beef bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-04-7gi7p-966.webp)

Dongchuwon Bulgogi's signature dish is old-style Korean beef bulgogi, cooked with meat and vegetables together on a hot plate. Unlike grilling meat piece by piece, bulgogi cooks together in the center of the table and everyone shares from it. It seems like a low-pressure dish to enjoy together as a family, from kids to grandparents.

![Korean beef bulgogi piled high on a plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-05-gv0gu-966.webp)

There are two bulgogi options — regular and Korean beef — and the Korean beef version costs ₩4,500 more per serving. But since we were already there, why not go Korean beef?! haha. Once you order, they bring out the meat and vegetables separately, and the meat came piled high on a large plate — seriously an enormous amount. It looked generous in photos, but seeing it in person, it was even more than I expected. These days when you eat out, prices go up but portions often shrink, leaving you to order extras. At Dongchuwon Bulgogi, the moment the table was set, instead of thinking 'this isn't enough,' the first thought was 'can we even finish all this?' haha

![Basic table setting for the Korean beef bulgogi set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-06-zu1kl-966.webp)

My daughter said she'd already had bulgogi for school lunch that day, so she'd just have naengmyeon. If you add just ₩2,900 to a regular menu item, you can get a set that includes naengmyeon for dessert. So we ordered the Korean beef bulgogi set for two, and thinking the bulgogi alone might not be enough, added some extra sarium and other sides. But once the Korean beef bulgogi actually arrived, the base portion alone was incredibly generous. I really thought I was going to burst haha. If it's your first time at Dongchuwon Bulgogi, I'd suggest checking how much the main dish is before loading up on extra sarium from the start — you can always add more later if you need to.

![Assorted mushrooms and vegetables served on a separate plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-07-1o865-966.webp)

The various mushrooms and vegetables that cook alongside the Korean beef bulgogi are served on a separate plate from the meat. The ingredients weren't crushed or wilted, and you could tell just by looking that they were fresh. Eating meat alone can get repetitive fast, but adding mushrooms and vegetables one by one gave more texture variety and let us enjoy the Korean beef bulgogi all the way through.

At first, the staff set up the meat and vegetables on the copper plate for us.

### Two cooking styles on one copper plate

On the raised center part, you grill the meat, and around the edges, there's broth for cooking the mushrooms and vegetables. Cooking the meat dry on the hot plate without dipping it in the broth gives you bulgogi's rich, concentrated flavor, while dipping it in the edge broth lets the broth soak in for a juicier bite. Being able to enjoy two different styles from a single hot plate depending on your mood was part of the fun of Dongchuwon Bulgogi.

## September's free egg with Korean beef, poached in the broth

In September, there was a promotion where ordering a Korean beef menu item got you a free egg. It was an unexpected perk, and it kind of felt like getting a little gift haha.

![Egg poaching in the bulgogi broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-10-7pvbu-966.webp)

It's not a boiled egg but a raw one — you carefully crack it into the broth around the edge of the copper plate. Wait until the white cooks, then scoop it out like a poached egg. The bulgogi broth naturally seasons it, so it's delicious without adding anything extra.

## Mini bulgogi burgers made with dinner rolls and cheese

Ordering bulgogi also comes with dinner rolls and cheese as standard. Split the roll in half, add cheese and well-cooked bulgogi, and you've got a mini bulgogi burger.

![Mini bulgogi burger made with dinner roll, cheese, and bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-12-aidxg-966.webp)

The sweet bulgogi combined with savory cheese and soft bread tastes completely different from eating it plain. It was fun making them one by one with my daughter, and they went surprisingly well together — a must-try when you visit.

![Ongsimi mandu ordered as extra sarium](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-14-1dmln-966.webp)

### Extra sarium: oval-shaped mandu

For the extra sarium, we ordered ongsimi mandu (round-shaped dumplings). At first they looked small, so I thought they'd be light, but when I cut one in half, the small dumpling was packed full of filling. Cooked in the bulgogi broth, they were easy to eat in one bite and surprisingly filling for their size.

![Basic side dishes including pickled mustard greens and seasoned radish](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-16-ryjb5-966.webp)

![Salad topped with cornflakes alongside other side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-17-r8nyi-966.webp)

## The side dish spread

The banchan (side dishes) were neatly arranged: pickled mustard greens, seasoned radish, napa cabbage kimchi, pickled onion, and salad. Rather than piling on a lot of different dishes, it felt curated to pair well with bulgogi. Pairing the sweet bulgogi with a bite of pickled mustard greens or pickled onion cleared the palate nicely. The crunchy radish and cabbage kimchi were both delicious too. The salad had crispy cornflakes on top, which my daughter loved.

![Mul-naengmyeon included as dessert in the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-18-3s9ug-966.webp)

## The set's included naengmyeon for dessert

The set menu includes naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert, and you can choose between mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) or bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles). I worried the portion might be too small since it's a dessert item, but it was just the right amount after eating bulgogi. I'm usually strictly a bibim-naengmyeon person, but I really enjoyed Dongchuwon Bulgogi's mul-naengmyeon too. Finishing off a hearty bulgogi meal with cool naengmyeon made me glad we ordered the set.

![Bibim-naengmyeon chosen by the daughter for dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-20-1e67p-966.webp)

![Bulgogi piled on top of bibim-naengmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-21-12tjh-966.webp)

My daughter picked bibim-naengmyeon. It was so good she buried her face in the bowl without a word about sharing haha. Even though she'd said she was only having naengmyeon because she'd already had bulgogi at school lunch, it's not exactly a secret that she loaded plenty of bulgogi on top of her bibim-naengmyeon anyway haha. I guess the combo of bulgogi and bibim-naengmyeon was too tempting to resist.

![Spicy seasoned grilled squid](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-22-m7hgt-m-966.webp)

### Spicy grilled squid

We also ordered grilled spicy squid on the side, and unlike the sweet bulgogi, the spicy seasoning woke up the palate. Alternating between bulgogi and a bite of grilled spicy squid kept things from getting monotonous — nice! The bulgogi alone was plenty filling, but if you like spicy food, ordering this alongside it isn't a bad idea.

![Sweet-and-sour omija tea served after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-23-pn3ac-966.webp)

## Omija tea and ice cream to finish

The omija (schisandra berry) tea served after the meal was also good. One sip of the sweet-and-sour omija tea felt refreshing after a mouth full of hearty bulgogi and naengmyeon. We made sure to enjoy every last part of the set menu haha.

![Ice cream enjoyed after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-egg-dumpling-24-1a6e8-966.webp)

And Dongchuwon Bulgogi also has ice cream available after the meal. Even though we were already stuffed from the generous Korean beef bulgogi, my daughter's expression changed the moment she saw the ice cream haha. I guess the meal is one thing and ice cream is a whole separate category. Watching her enjoy it so much made me feel like I'd picked the right spot for this family meal. When dining out with kids, the main dish matters, but sometimes a small dessert like this is what really boosts overall satisfaction.

## Private rooms for 8 to 28, great for family gatherings

Dongchuwon Bulgogi also has private rooms that can accommodate 8 to 28 people. It's great that large family events or group gatherings can be held in a separate space. It would suit anyone looking for a spot for a family gathering in Incheon or a room-style restaurant in Incheon for dining comfortably with a group. Bulgogi is a dish that's relatively easy to please everyone with, from kids to adults, making it perfect for gatherings with a wide range of ages.

I went in with high expectations because of the Blue Ribbon listing, and Dongchuwon Bulgogi delivered — not just in the taste of the Korean beef bulgogi, but with far more generous portions and a satisfying set menu than I expected. If you're looking for a restaurant in Hagik-dong to have a hearty meal with family, this one's worth a visit.
