The weather has finally turned quite cool, which means it is time for warm dishes with deep, rich broth. Let me start my honest review of Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, a Munhyeon-dong favorite I would recommend for family dining: perfect value, generous portions, and great flavor all in one.

## Getting to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu and waiting

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is on the first floor along the main road near Munhyeon Ramp, so it is easy to find. If driving, search for Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu or Daerim Munhyeon City Plaza. By public transit, it is a 4-minute walk toward Munhyeon Intersection from Jigegol Station Exit 3, or 7 minutes from Munhyeon Station Exit 2.

The main shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at this Munhyeon-dong favorite is a very kind ₩11,000 per serving. With prices these days, the value is hard to believe—and the set is seriously well put together.

The restaurant is so large that I thought there would be no wait, but when I came after 7 p.m. on a weekday, it was full and there was a line. If there is a wait, go inside and write your name and party size on the waiting list, then sit on the waiting chairs outside.

## Ordering red, medium-spicy shabu kalguksu

You order from the kiosk at each table, and I ordered shabu kalguksu and seafood pajeon (Korean savory pancake). The shabu kalguksu comes with either white or red broth, and you can adjust the spice level. I come here often, and spicy is too hot for me, so I ordered medium. I wanted something with a kick, so I chose the red broth. If I needed more heat after trying it, I could always add a little spicy broth from the self-service bar, haha.

I tied my hair up securely with the elastic on the table and headed to the self-service corner. There are kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and broth. The kimchi and kkakdugi at Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu are truly delicious too.

## Attacking the sirloin and vegetables

The shabu kalguksu arrived with a pot loaded with sirloin, vegetables, and mushrooms, plus house-made kalguksu noodles and fried rice. Let the broth come to a vigorous boil. Now it is time to make the sauce too, right? Mix soy sauce and wasabi at a tasty 2:1 ratio.

Now the broth was boiling, so it was time for beef!!!!!! Hehe~!! I was going to eat a little of the vegetables and mushrooms first, then add the sirloin one piece at a time, but teasing things out is not my style. I threw it all in at once and went to battle. I scooped up beef with vegetables, mushrooms, and minari (water parsley), dipped it in the wasabi sauce, and ate it plain too—having the best time. Just as I was properly getting my mukbang on, the crispy seafood pajeon finally arrived.

## My first crispy seafood pajeon order

I usually have only shabu kalguksu every time I come, so this was my first pajeon and I was full of anticipation. Shall we look at this crispy seafood pajeon???

![First order of crispy seafood pajeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon-13-81gas-966.webp)

I love anything extra-crispy, so the moment I saw this pajeon, an exclamation just came out. It looked wonderfully crisp and delicious too.

![Crunchy texture of crispy seafood pajeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon-15-w2ovm-966.webp)

The crispy seafood pajeon we ordered as a side with the shabu kalguksu is a specialty you absolutely should not miss. True to its name, it comes out so crisp and crunchy, almost as if it has been fried, and the texture is a work of art from the first bite.

![Seafood pajeon with king prawns and squid](https://img.superchart.com/images/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon/munhyeon-shabu-crispy-pajeon-16-10n06-966.webp)

Made with three secret batters, this seafood pajeon stays crisp to the very last piece and is loaded with king prawns and squid. Just as described, it had loads of squid and shrimp inside, making every bite incredible. The dipping sauce was so good that I refilled it twice. It is twice as delicious dipped in that sauce. If you love a crunchy texture, I strongly recommend adding it.

## Finishing with spicy broth, noodles, and fried rice

Once you have eaten a fair bit, it is time to add the kalguksu noodles, right!! Here is a tip: eat the beef and vegetables at medium spice first, then add spicy broth from the self-service corner for a pleasantly spicy kick. That is how I eat it every time I visit.

The texture of the house-made noodles was different from the very first chew—so springy. The two of us slurped them down in no time. I was so full that I considered skipping the fried rice, but a meal has to end with rice!!! I made it thinking I would have just one spoonful, but we ended up finishing it all. I stir-fried it so deliciously that I kept eating despite being full; my appetite was seriously unleashed that day.

It is also very good with just a light dip in the sauce served with the pajeon, so try it this way. Absolute heaven.

## Spacious seating and the house noodle room

One side of the restaurant has an open kitchen and a house noodle room, where you can watch dough being rolled and noodles being made right before your eyes.

The overall atmosphere is bright, clean, and modern, with wide spacing between tables and roomy seating. It is great for laying out a full spread of shabu pot, beef, vegetables, kalguksu, and pajeon, and it feels cozy and welcoming for everyone from young children to parents to dine comfortably together.
