## In short

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch (문꼬치문강정) is an octopus skewer and octopus gangjeong street snack stall on the first floor at 35 Eunhaeng-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, tucked inside Hanok Village. Already full after walking around the village, the writer stopped by in the evening and split a cheese octopus skewer for 6,000 won, cheese octopus gangjeong and a slushy beer set between two people, and the octopus was springy and chewy rather than tough. For a light snack instead of a meal, Munkkocchi is an easy place to sit at the tables out front and take a break.

## An evening snack in Jeonju Hanok Village at Munkkocchi

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is an octopus skewer and octopus fritter street food stall at 35 Eunhaeng-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju. There's just so much to try when you come to Jeonju Hanok Village haha. We'd already been snacking our way around the village that day and were pretty full. But since we were traveling, we wanted to try at least one more famous street food, so after some searching we stopped by Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch, known for its octopus skewers and fritters. Since we were full, something light we could split between two of us was perfect.

It's located inside the village, so it's easy to stop by while wandering around sightseeing. The exterior blends naturally with the hanok buildings, keeping the Jeonju Hanok Village atmosphere intact.

We happened to visit in the evening, so the mood was completely different from daytime. The lights along the village street were coming on one by one and people were strolling by — it really felt like a trip haha.

### Where to sit: tables in front of Munkkocchi

A lot of street food places make you eat standing up or walking around, but here there were tables set up out front where you could sit for a bit.

We ordered and grabbed a table. Our legs were a little sore from walking around the village all day, so it was nice to sit down and rest while eating haha.

Eating while looking out at the evening Hanok Village street had its own kind of atmosphere. Not a dramatic night view, but there was something fun about watching the evening scenery and passersby while snacking on street food.

## What we ordered and what it cost: cheese octopus skewer, 6,000 won

Looking at the Munkkocchi Mungangjeong menu, there were chicken skewers and octopus skewers, with flavor choices like teriyaki, mala, cheese, and bonito flakes. Since we'd already eaten quite a bit, we didn't order much and just picked the items we were curious about.

- ✔ Cheese octopus skewer ₩6,000
- ✔ Cheese octopus fritters
- ✔ Slushy beer set

The cheese octopus fritters come as a single order or as a set with a drink, slushy, or beer, so we went with the slushy beer.

While waiting, we got to watch it being made fresh right on the spot — that's part of the fun of street food, being handed something cooked right in front of you.

Watching the sauce and cheese being piled onto the octopus, I temporarily forgot I'd said I was full haha.

## How does the cheese octopus skewer taste? Springy octopus under melted cheese

We started with the cheese octopus skewer. The cheese piled on top of the octopus skewer made it look really appetizing right away. The octopus wasn't tough at all when chewed — it had a springy, chewy texture, and combined with the savory cheese, the pairing worked better than I expected.

Octopus on its own can taste plain, but with the sauce and cheese added, it got a salty, savory kick that made it perfect as a snack.

If you're a cheese lover, the cheese octopus skewer is worth ordering. Eating the chewy octopus alongside the soft, savory cheese made for an interesting contrast in texture. Since it's on a skewer, it's easy to pick off piece by piece — great for a light bite while wandering around Hanok Village.

## How is cheese octopus gangjeong different from chicken gangjeong?

I've had chicken gangjeong plenty of times, but octopus gangjeong isn't common, so I was curious what it would taste like. The bite-sized octopus fritters came topped with cheese — crispy on the outside, with the octopus's distinct chewiness on the inside. Instead of soft meat like in chicken gangjeong, you get springy, chewy octopus, which felt genuinely different. The sweet sauce combined with the savory cheese made it hard to stop picking up piece after piece.

I worried octopus might be tough, but it was surprisingly easy to chew, and the mix of crispy fried texture with chewy octopus was the charm of the fritters.

We said we'd keep it light since we were full, but once we started eating, we just kept going haha.

### Does the slushy beer go with octopus skewers?

The slushy beer we ordered alongside was refreshing in a different way from regular beer, and it went well with street food. Taking a cool sip in between bites of the salty, savory cheese octopus skewer and fritters worked really well.

Visiting in the evening especially, a beer paired nicely with the Hanok Village atmosphere. It was frozen into a crunchy slush, which made it feel even more refreshing, and as it melted it blended smoothly with the beer, staying cold all the way through — a great match with the cheese octopus fritters haha.

## The right portion to share between two when you're already full

Watching people passing through Hanok Village and the street atmosphere shift into evening while eating felt like more than just grabbing a street snack — it felt like a proper little break during the trip.

Jeonju Hanok Village has so much food that you get full fast just snacking around. Even in our already-full state, this was manageable to split between two people, and it suited us well since we were looking for something light rather than a full meal.

The octopus skewer had its own chewy skewer-eating charm, while the fritters had a crispy-outside, chewy-inside texture with sauce and cheese — each with a different appeal.

![Comfortable seating area in front of Munkkocchi Mungangjeong for a break](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-hanok-village-evening-cheese-octopus-skewer/jeonju-hanok-village-evening-cheese-octopus-skewer-23-4wulv-900.webp)

Having seats out front to sit and eat made it a good place to rest after a long stretch of walking around Hanok Village.

If you're looking for a simple snack while touring Jeonju Hanok Village, this place is worth a visit. It's easy to take out and eat piece by piece while walking around the village, and it would also work well as a light late-night snack back at your accommodation. From the octopus skewers to the fritters, there was a charm here different from more common snacks, and it made for a tasty street food stop in Jeonju Hanok Village.
