## Charcoal galbi and a tidy full spread: how it tasted

We ordered Manpo Garden's signature charcoal-grilled marinated galbi. From the banchan that arrived right after ordering, every dish was perfectly seasoned and fresh — I was already in a good mood before the main meat even showed up.

### Marinated galbi full of charcoal aroma

The moment the marinated galbi hit the hot charcoal, a savory-sweet marinade smell drifted up gently. The marinade wasn't overly sweet and had soaked all the way into the meat, giving it a soft, tender bite — really excellent.

### Pickled onions and lettuce wraps

Wrapping a tender piece of galbi with garlic and the restaurant's special pickled onions in lettuce brought out a clean, non-greasy taste. The meat wasn't dry at all — it was juicy through and through, the kind of flavor anyone, young or old, would love.

### Dessert naengmyeon: one per person, free

Leaving a few pieces of galbi aside and wrapping them with the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) we ordered for dessert was an absolutely perfect pairing. The tangy-sweet sauce and chewy noodles wrapped up the meal cleanly. The biggest highlight of Manpo Garden is that the dessert naengmyeon is always free. One naengmyeon per person, made with handmade noodles — quality good enough to be sold on its own at a dedicated naengmyeon shop.

### Lunch special bonus: doenjang sulbap

This is the doenjang sulbap you get as a bonus with the lunch special.

### Galbitang for grown-up palates

Our parents love a clean, refreshing broth, right? That's exactly what the galbitang is. A bowl that shows off generosity in every sense.

## Verdict: how it was as a family meal out

If you want to take your parents out or enjoy delicious charcoal galbi with family, I strongly recommend Manpo Garden in Yangju!

- A varied, tidy spread of banchan as clean and thoughtful as a hanjeongsik meal
- Spacious parking and a pleasant dining room (great for family meals and gatherings)

Hoeamsa Temple Site (楊州 灰岩寺址) in Yangju's Hoeam-dong, on the slopes of Mount Cheonbosan, is one of the most important royal temple sites from the late Goryeo to early Joseon period. It's designated Historic Site No. 128 and listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List.

### Highlights and what to see

- The temple grounds themselves (a vast site): large building foundations, stairs, stone terraces, and traces of ondol (underfloor heating) remain beautifully preserved, giving off a grand aura against the backdrop of Mount Cheonbosan. (Great for a walk.)
- Yangju Hoeamsa Temple Site Museum: located at the entrance to the site, showcasing royal celadon, roof tiles (dragon-head finials, ridge-end figures), Buddhist statues, and other relics excavated here, along with the temple's history.
- Stone relics at the site: designated treasures including the stupa and stone lantern of Monk Naong, the stupa and stone lantern of Monk Jigong, and the stupa of Great Master Muhak — a chance to see top-tier early Joseon stone art.
