## In short

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a hand-milled noodle shabu-kalguksu restaurant in Dongcheon-dong and Gogi-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin. A weekend lunch with a child here meant the white mild broth shabu-kalguksu for two at 11,500 won per person, a bowl of rice and a seafood pajeon, plus several refills of radish kimchi from the self-serve bar and fried rice to finish. Adults get the shabu course while a child can stick to rice, beef and mushrooms, which makes Yun Ujae an easy family meal out.

I was trying to figure out what to eat for weekend lunch and ended up going back to Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) spot in Dongcheon-dong.

![Shabu pot at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, a Dongcheon-dong kalguksu spot](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-02-16yl0-1200.webp)

This is one of the restaurants my kid actually eats well at, so it's always on my mind whenever we're eating out as a family — every time we visit, we end up gasping about how good it is, so this time it was weekend lunch again.

## Where Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is and when it opens

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is located at 3 Gogi-ro 173beon-gil, 1F, Suji-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Hours are 11:00–20:50, with a break from 15:00–16:30 and last order at 20:00.

## Weekend lunch wait and parking at Yun Ujae

Once again it was busy at lunchtime and there was a wait. The parking spots in front of the restaurant were already full, so we parked near the daycare across the street in the opposite direction and walked over.

![Indoor waiting room at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-04-3m22q-900.webp)

There's definitely a wait if you visit Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, a well-known spot in Suji, on a weekend lunch! But the line moves fast, so we didn't wait too long.

And luckily there's a separate waiting room, so we could wait comfortably inside.

## Yun Ujae menu and what we ordered

![Menu board at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-05-1xtbe-900.webp)

We ordered shabu-kalguksu for two plus an extra bowl of rice for the kid, and got the shabu-kalguksu in the white mild broth. ₩11,500 per person, the same price no matter the day of the week — such a nice price, I always love that :)

## The shabu-kalguksu set arrives

We didn't have to wait long after ordering before the food came out. The menu tends to come out fast, so the turnover is good too — even with a wait, it seems to clear faster than you'd think.

![Basic side dishes of napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-06-13d6t-900.webp)

The basic side dishes are baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi) and radish kimchi. I especially love the radish kimchi at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, the Dongcheon-dong kalguksu spot. It's crunchy and refreshing, and pairs really well with the kalguksu. In the end I kept going back to the self-serve bar for more radish kimchi, haha — the kimchi matters a lot when you're eating kalguksu, and this one is exactly to my taste.

## Seafood pajeon (green onion pancake)

![A full plate of seafood pajeon at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-07-105pj-966.webp)

![Close-up of crispy fried seafood pajeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-08-1sdd3-900.webp)

This time my husband had been going on about wanting seafood pajeon (seafood scallion pancake) since the day before, so we ordered that too, haha. The outside was fried up nice and crispy, while the inside was moist and chewy.

![Cross-section of seafood pajeon with whole shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-09-smpg1-900.webp)

![A piece of seafood pajeon lifted with chopsticks](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-10-1ousp-900.webp)

There were especially plump shrimp packed in, giving a nice springy bite. The fragrance of the scallions and the savoriness of the seafood came together well, and with the crispy bits added in, it was great to eat alongside the shabu-kalguksu. I finally understood why my husband was craving it.

## Cooking the shabu in the white mild broth

The shabu-kalguksu was loaded with oyster mushrooms and minari (water celery), and you could feel the broth getting richer and richer as the vegetables cooked.

![Pot of shabu-kalguksu full of oyster mushrooms and minari](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-11-gafxr-900.webp)

After enjoying plenty of vegetables first, we added the sirloin — the slices were thin, so they cooked quickly and stayed soft. The meat itself was clean-tasting with no gamey smell, so it went well eaten together with the vegetables.

Dipping it lightly in the soy-wasabi sauce spiked with cheongyang chili added a sharp kick. On top of the clean broth and the savory flavor of the meat, that tangy hit from the soy-wasabi made it taste even better to me.

The broth is white, so at first it feels light and clean, but as you cook the vegetables and mushrooms in it, the natural sweetness from the vegetables and the mushroom aroma seep in and the flavor deepens. The savoriness is top-notch, which also makes it great to eat with a kid. That's why this place keeps coming to mind as our family's go-to kalguksu spot in Dongcheon-dong.

## What a child can eat at Yun Ujae

One of the main reasons we love this place is that my kid eats well here. I portioned out some rice, mushrooms, and meat for her along with some of the shabu broth, and she ate it all up well. She ate the mushrooms well, ate the meat well, and once I mixed rice into the broth for her, she had a solid, filling meal. Here, the adults get to enjoy shabu while the kid can eat rice, meat, and mushrooms, which made things easy for us. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a Dongcheon-dong kalguksu spot to visit with their kid.

## Hand-milled kalguksu (knife-cut noodles)

And after the shabu, you can't skip the kalguksu. Maybe because the noodles are self-milled here, but they're really chewy.

![Fresh self-milled kalguksu noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch/dongcheon-dong-shabu-kalguksu-family-lunch-18-1kfow-900.webp)

They go down smoothly but have a springy, bouncy bite when you chew, so the texture is noticeably different from regular kalguksu noodles. Especially since we ate the shabu first, adding the noodles to a broth already deepened with the flavor of the meat and vegetables made it even richer.

The once-clean white broth got even tastier with the savoriness of the meat, mushrooms, and vegetables mixed in. I cut up the noodles for my kid and she ate well, and my husband and I marveled over it again too, haha. I really don't know why we're always so amazed every time we come here — but that's exactly why, whenever we think of a good kalguksu place in Dongcheon-dong, our family always ends up at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, haha.

## Finishing with fried rice

After the shabu and kalguksu, we wrapped things up with fried rice. Making fried rice with the leftover broth means the savoriness from the meat and vegetables is already soaked in, so it's delicious even on its own.

Since I love kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), I chopped some up finely and mixed it in too. The crunchy kkakdugi popping up here and there added a salty-tangy flavor to the fried rice, so we ate happily right up to the last bite.

After going through shabu, kalguksu, and fried rice, we felt like we'd had a proper weekend lunch. Our kid ate well and the adults enjoyed it too, so it was a satisfying family outing.

If you're looking for a Dongcheon-dong kalguksu spot that's good to visit with a kid, I recommend Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, a well-known place in Suji. Once again, we came away marveling at how good it was :)
