## In short

Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch is a pork rib restaurant near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul, part of a franchise from Gyeongsangnam-do that serves pre-grilled jjokgalbi (pork rib meat) with chicken porridge, corn cheese and kaeyonjeu salad (ketchup-mayo salad) included. The writer ordered the 51,000 won Choerutan Set in the 2 spicy + 1 soy sauce combination, added the choerutan rice ball and the cheese bomb steamed egg, and refilled the kaeyonjeu salad once. Even the free side dishes are strong enough to make Champpoppo Jjokgalbi a certain repeat visit for a soju night.

It's been a while since I found a truly authentic restaurant, and I'm in a great mood about it. Champpoppo Jjokgalbi is officially my Hapjeong jjokgalbi (grilled pork rib) pick. I came home and immediately told my close friends — the side dishes were great, the ribs were delicious, go check it out — and even shared the name of the place, that's how much I enjoyed it.

Turns out Champpoppo Jjokgalbi is a franchise, a pork rib restaurant that started in Gyeongsangnam-do. The Hapjeong branch has been open for about 2 months. Right off the bat, they give you corn cheese and chicken porridge as basic side dishes — honestly, that alone could get through a bottle of soju. For alcoholics like me who can't function without soju, if you're ever wondering where to eat jjokgalbi in Hapjeong, just go straight to Champpoppo. What am I gonna do if it gets more crowded... I still need to eat my jjokgalbi...

## Choerutan Set for 51,000 won: ordering 2 spicy + 1 soy sauce

What I ordered at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi Hapjeong Branch was the Choerutan Set, priced at ₩51,000. You can choose your ratio to taste — soy 2 + spicy 1, or spicy 2 + soy 1. I wanted more of the spicy sauce flavor, so I went with spicy 2 + soy 1, plus the choerutan rice ball and steamed egg.

![Choerutan Set table spread ordered with 2 spicy, 1 soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-02-pk0w7-900.webp)

The Choerutan Set is perfect if you want to enjoy 3 servings of jjokgalbi along with the rice ball and steamed egg together. I noticed couples ordering this combo a lot too. I picked exactly the right jjokgalbi set combo, for real, this is the one.

By the way, they give you a few pieces of pork skin and thin-sliced potato to grill on the side, free of charge — such a thoughtful touch, love it.

## Kaeyonjeu salad, three sauces and a free refill

Champpoppo Jjokgalbi serves 3 kinds of sauce: curry sauce, white sauce, and spicy sauce. And I love the kaeyonjeu salad so much — I can't be the only one, right? As a drinking snack, whether it's soju or beer, kaeyonjeu salad just keeps going in when your mouth gets bored. It was so good I refilled it once.

I want to go back just to eat this again, lol. The kaeyonjeu ratio was perfect too... Kaeyonjeu salad pairs so well these days, whether at an outdoor chicken place or a jjokgalbi restaurant.

## Chicken porridge and corn cheese come included

Chicken porridge as a free side dish? Never expected that, no lie.

![Chicken porridge served as a free side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-05-nc001-900.webp)

Personally, when I drink soju alone at home, I like pairing it with samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup). And here, after finishing the meat, the chicken porridge went great with soju too — I never expected to find my soul soju-food match at a jjokgalbi restaurant.

The chicken porridge that comes free is complimentary, but extra is ₩3,000; corn cheese also comes free, and extra is ₩3,000 too. I really thought this place nails the basic side dishes.

Thinking a round table wouldn't have a utensil holder? Nope — open it up, it's there.

## Choerutan rice ball, 8,000 won: how spicy is it?

A little spicy for someone with low spice tolerance — the choerutan rice ball.

![Spicy choerutan rice ball](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-08-1vbzp-900.webp)

It's spicy but has that addictive flavor that keeps you eating. The single order of choerutan rice ball is ₩8,000. You must order this. Must.

Pickled onions.

## Charcoal arrives, then the jjokgalbi

Let's grill this well.

Charcoal's up.

The jjokgalbi has arrived.

Check the menu board — and the most important part, the soju prices, are listed too.

The first grill of the jjokgalbi takes about 15 minutes, so I'd recommend ordering right when you sit down at any jjokgalbi restaurant.

## Cheese bomb steamed egg is part of the set

Cheese bomb steamed egg is ₩5,000 as a single item, but since I ordered the Choerutan Set (2–3 people / 900g), it comes free with it.

![Cheese bomb steamed egg included free with the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-16-nv6gz-900.webp)

Couldn't hold back while eating, poured a shot of soju... why am I like this? Did the reins come off?

![Soju enjoyed alongside the jjokgalbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-17-boz2m-900.webp)

Chicken porridge and steamed egg. Whoa, parent and child on one table, no lie.

A shot taken after other customers cleared out. That round table vibe. I can't resist it.

Too lazy to shape the rice ball, so I just mixed it all up and ate it. Still delicious though.

Steamed egg.

## Next visit: soy 2 + spicy 1 at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi

Personally the soy sauce jjokgalbi at Champpoppo Jjokgalbi suited my taste a bit more, so next visit I'll go with soy 2 + spicy 1. So good.

![Soy sauce jjokgalbi that suited the writer's taste more](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju/hapjeong-pork-ribs-kkeyonnaise-salad-soju-23-1huab-900.webp)

That flavor I want to eat again keeps coming to mind. Reheat any leftover jjokgalbi carefully in an air fryer at home so it doesn't burn.

This is an adults-only zone. Soju and jjokgalbi? Simply HEAVEN.

Every day is a grown-up's holiday at Ppoppo Jjokgalbi. Return-visit doctor prescribed at 30000%, seriously.
