## Mentsuru Children's Grand Park Branch: a ramen spot down a Gwangnaru-ro backstreet

I stopped by Mentsuru Children's Grand Park Branch, tucked into a backstreet off Gwangnaru-ro in Gwangjin. I was out nearby for something and ended up wandering around when mealtime hit. Feeling a bit hungry and craving warm broth after a while, I started looking up ramen restaurants near Children's Grand Park. Then I spotted a clean-looking place down a side alley and walked in without much thought.

The entrance was framed all over with wooden lattice, giving it a neat, warm feel. The glass front let me see all the way inside, so it didn't feel closed off, and the English signage hung neatly as well.

Seating at Mentsuru Children's Grand Park Branch is one long bar table, so eating alone wasn't awkward at all. After sitting down, I glanced up and noticed a unique wooden decoration hanging from the ceiling, softly lit by rail lighting that gave the whole space a gentler mood.

I chose the spicy level 1 motsu ramen (organ meat ramen), added two slices of pork belly chashu and extra seaweed, and picked fried gyoza and Zero Coke as sides. Just tapping the menu and paying by card right there made the whole process super simple.

Looking through the menu a bit more, there was everything from the basic shoyu ramen to shio ramen and tori paitan, plus various broth-based dishes. Abura soba and rice bowls were also on offer, so there seemed to be plenty of options depending on what you're in the mood for.

If you come in the evening, a light drink alongside your meal wouldn't hurt either. I spotted highball options like Jim Beam and Cocoon, plus cold draft beer — definitely something to try next time. Beyond the usual cola and soda, they also had sweeter drinks like melon soda and peach soda, the kind you often see at Japanese-style ramen restaurants.

On the shelf in front of the table sat a cold water dispenser, paper cups, and small dishes of pepper and sauce, all neatly arranged. You just help yourself to what you need, and I could catch glimpses of staff working in the kitchen, which gave the place a lively feel.

Mentsuru's motsu ramen at spicy level 1 had a broth that was fairly red, piled generously with scallions and cheongyang chili. It didn't take long after ordering for my bowl to arrive. Maybe because I chose spicy level 1, the broth color was quite red, topped with a heap of sliced scallions and cheongyang chili.

The chashu and beef intestine looked good quality, and the extra seaweed I added was stuck in generously, making it a hearty-looking bowl of ramen — exactly the kind of visual you'd hope for at a ramen restaurant near Children's Grand Park.

The fried gyoza I ordered as a side came out round and crispy, served with pickled ginger. I'd ordered it to eat alongside the ramen, and it arrived looking appetizingly fried, with pickled ginger on the side to cut through the greasiness nicely.

The outside was fried pretty crispy, so it had a great texture with each bite, and the inside was warm and moist — perfect to alternate with sips of the ramen broth.

There was also a sticker on the front of the table with detailed instructions on how to join. Just request a receipt when ordering and leave a short review — worth trying if you're visiting.

It was a place I stumbled into by chance while out walking, but the portions were generous and the taste was solid, so I ended up with a satisfying meal. Next time I'm in the area, I'd love to stop by this hearty ramen restaurant near Children's Grand Park again.
