## In short

Doseogwan Dwitjip is a Chinese restaurant in the backstreets behind Cheongdeok Library in Giheung-gu, Yongin. Over dinner with his wife, the writer shared the two-person hot plate fried jjajangmyeon (22,000 won) and the glutinous rice tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and the hot plate kept sizzling so the noodles stayed warm to the last bite, with crisp nurungji (scorched rice) hidden underneath to scrape up. Doseogwan Dwitjip is a solid choice for two people who want a filling dinner.

Doseogwan Dwitjip is a Chinese restaurant in Cheongdeok-dong, Yongin. Today's plan: dinner with my wife. Trying to figure out what to eat for dinner, I suddenly had a craving for jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles). That's when I found Doseogwan Dwitjip in Cheongdeok-dong. I wondered why it was called "the house behind the library," and it turns out it's a Chinese restaurant near Cheongdeok Library. This time, instead of regular jjajangmyeon, I went for the slightly unusual hot plate fried jjajang. Let's go~

## Where is Doseogwan Dwitjip? Parking and opening hours

The address is 18-21 Guseong2-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, 1st floor, South Korea. It's the seventh building in the alley behind Cheongdeok Library, next to Building A of Yongin Technovalley and next to Megabox Technovalley.

- Hours: Tuesday–Friday 11:00–20:00 (break 14:30–17:00, last order 19:30)
- Saturday–Sunday 11:30–15:30 (last order 15:00)
- Closed Mondays
- Parking: Spots in front of the restaurant exist, but they're often taken by Technovalley employees. After office hours, a nearby empty lot has space.

![Doseogwan Dwitjip's sign lit up at night, exterior view](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-02-5s8if-966.webp)

Address: 18-21 Guseong2-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, 1st floor, South Korea. We visited in the evening, and the brightly lit Doseogwan Dwitjip sign made it easy to spot.

![Parking area in front of the restaurant and surrounding alley](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-03-1txwc-966.webp)

We drove and parked in a nearby empty lot. There were cars parked right in front of the restaurant too, but the space didn't look very generous. If you're driving, it's worth checking nearby parking options as well.

![View near the entrance of Doseogwan Dwitjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-04-3zqy5-966.webp)

## Inside Doseogwan Dwitjip: a Chinese restaurant with bookshelves, true to its name

From the outside, I figured it was just a small neighborhood Chinese restaurant, but inside it was bigger than expected. Plenty of tables, and the spacing between them wasn't cramped at all. We were seated right away with no wait. The staff were friendly from the moment we ordered.

And true to the name "Doseogwan Dwitjip" (house behind the library), there's an actual bookshelf on one side of the restaurant. More books than I expected were lined up on it, so the name wasn't just for show. A Chinese restaurant with wood-tone furniture and a bookshelf felt different from the usual image of a Chinese restaurant. The books were also surprisingly high-level.

## Free bowls of rice at the self-serve bar

There's a self-serve bar on one side of Doseogwan Dwitjip. The sign there was a little unique — it said, "Only one person per table should use the self-serve bar (it gets too crowded)." And below that, it added, "Especially couples — the boyfriend should handle everything." Since I came with my wife, naturally I was the one who had to go.

![Corner with the self-serve bar sign](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-08-ao64y-966.webp)

You can also grab an apron yourself, and next to it there's a rice cooker with free rice. You just scoop as much as you want. For anyone who likes mixing leftover jjajang sauce with rice, this is a pretty big perk.

While looking around the self-serve bar, a note posted in front of the kitchen caught my eye.

> A swan's elegance is thanks to the frantic paddling underwater that no one wants to see. A restaurant's kitchen is like a swan's feet.

It seemed to capture the owner constantly moving inside the unseen kitchen. There's a bit of humor to it, but it doesn't feel like a corny dad joke — it feels like a genuine message.

## Hot plate fried jjajang for two, 22,000 won — served still bubbling

What we ordered was the hot plate fried jjajang. The moment it hit the table, the sheer size caught my eye first. Noodles and sauce piled high on a scorching hot plate. When it first arrived, the sauce was still bubbling away, so the look alone was completely different from regular jjajangmyeon.

![Hot plate fried jjajang bubbling on the hot plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-11-1lxqa-966.webp)

![Jjajangmyeon and sauce piled high on the hot plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-12-1noz3-966.webp)

![Close-up of the bubbling jjajang sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-13-v5ch1-966.webp)

![The full two-person hot plate fried jjajang](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-14-l9r45-966.webp)

This wasn't just noodles piled up — looking between the strands, there was a good variety of add-ins: onion and carrot, fried dumplings, shrimp, quail eggs, cockles, and stir-fried meat. The onion pieces were especially big, so they often came along whenever I picked up noodles.

![Noodles showing onion, shrimp, and quail eggs mixed in](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-15-u0o2x-966.webp)

The sauce itself wasn't the kind of simple, sugar-forward sweetness you sometimes get — the sweetness from the stir-fried onions came through first, followed by the salty depth of the black bean paste (chunjang). So while it was sweet, it wasn't left with just one dimension of flavor.

Regular jjajangmyeon tends to cool down as you eat, but because the hot plate itself stayed hot, this one kept warm throughout the meal. And as time passed, the sauce on the plate gradually reduced. At first the sauce was fairly moist, but toward the end the jjajang clung more thickly to the noodles. So the flavor subtly shifted from the beginning to the end of the dish.

### The nurungji hidden under the noodles

After eating some of the noodles, I found a layer of nurungji (scorched rice) underneath. At first I thought this was just noodles on a hot plate, but nurungji started appearing below the noodles. The part directly touching the hot plate was slightly crisp and pressed, while the part soaked in jjajang sauce turned moist and chewy.

![Nurungji revealed under the noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-17-8iqb6-966.webp)

That final nurungji came with crunchy bits here and there mixed with the deeply soaked jjajang sauce. I scraped the bottom of the hot plate with a spoon to get the nurungji and remaining sauce together — noodles first, then the mix-ins, and finally the nurungji. I liked how the texture kept changing throughout the meal.

![Glutinous rice tangsuyuk topped with shredded cabbage](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-18-1u3ul-966.webp)

## Glutinous rice tangsuyuk on the side

We paired the jjajang with glutinous rice tangsuyuk. Rather than tangsuyuk with a thick, puffed-up batter, this one had a thin layer of glutinous rice coating around the meat. Crispy on the outside, slightly chewy on the inside. Shredded cabbage was piled on top, so eating it alongside the meat added a crunchy texture.

![Cross-section of tangsuyuk with a thin glutinous rice coating](https://img.superchart.com/images/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan/dinner-for-two-iron-plate-jjajang-doseogwan-19-16s8a-966.webp)

Since the hot plate jjajang has a pretty bold sauce flavor on its own, having tangsuyuk alongside was great for switching things up between bites. With the two of us sharing one hot plate fried jjajang plus tangsuyuk, dinner was quite filling.

### Is the portion enough for two people?

By the time you've nearly finished the hot plate fried jjajang, a bit of sauce remains at the bottom. Since you can grab free rice from the self-serve bar, if there's still room, you can mix up a final round of jjajang-rice. But after scraping up all the nurungji and eating the tangsuyuk too, we weren't hungry enough to bother getting extra rice. The portion was plenty for two.

## What we liked about Doseogwan Dwitjip

- 🍜 The hot plate fried jjajang had plenty of vegetables and mix-ins, not just noodles
- 🍚 The nurungji layer under the noodles made for a fun shift in texture right to the end
- 🍚 Free rice available at the self-serve bar
- 😊 Friendly staff, and no wait when we visited

## Who Doseogwan Dwitjip is best for

- 🍜 Anyone in Cheongdeok-dong looking for something more unique than regular jjajangmyeon
- 👫 Anyone in Giheung-gu, Yongin looking for a Chinese restaurant to share as a couple
- 🙋 Anyone looking for a solo-friendly Chinese restaurant with set menus in Cheongdeok-dong
- 📚 Anyone near Cheongdeok Library looking for a lunch or dinner spot

> From the bubbling hot plate jjajang to the nurungji hiding at the bottom — a satisfying Cheongdeok-dong Chinese restaurant for sharing a plate as a couple.

We visited Doseogwan Dwitjip in Cheongdeok-dong for dinner with my wife. Honestly, what stuck with me more than the hot plate presentation itself was the nurungji that showed up underneath as we ate. Instead of ending after the noodles, scraping up the leftover jjajang sauce and nurungji added extra enjoyment within a single dish. The restaurant was bigger than expected, and there was no wait when we visited. The staff were friendly, and it's a place worth trying if you want a filling dinner for two with hot plate fried jjajang. Next time, I'll have to try the jjamppong too.
