## In short

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese restaurant that opened recently in the basement level linking Munjeong Station Exit 3 to Culture Valley in Songpa, Seoul. For a weekend lunch, the cold soba + tonkatsu set at 16,400 won and a plate of hire katsu (fried pork fillet) were shared: the soba came with a cold, deeply savoury broth and springy noodles, and the tonkatsu was crisp rather than chewy. If only one dish could be ordered at Gome Mui, the hire katsu dipped in salt wins.

There are quite a few good restaurants around Munjeong Station for the office workers of the Munjeong legal complex! I kept noticing a new-looking place with a line out the door, so I finally went to check out Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong, which I'd been curious about for a while.

## Where is Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong? Exit 3 to Culture Valley

Gome Mui is connected to Culture Valley right out of Exit 3 of Munjeong Station. They've apparently redone this area recently into a nice space for working out — so satisfying to see!

## Why Gome Mui fills up at weekend lunch

Arriving at Gome Mui, you can immediately smell the good Japanese-food vibes. And here's the funny thing! On weekdays, Munjeong is packed at lunch and the rooftop area is full of people at dinner, but on weekends this whole business district turns into a ghost town. Yet among all the empty restaurants, Gome Mui was completely packed at weekend lunch, which really says something about how much word has spread.

## Gome Mui menu: clay-pot rice, tonkatsu, cold soba, udon, curry

I came for the tonkatsu, but seeing hot pot rice dishes like spring greens and sea bream pot rice on the menu made me think this would be a great place to come back to and try something different next time.

Once inside, I looked at the tablet and the menu was so varied — pot rice, tonkatsu, cold soba, udon, even curry. Seems super convenient for lunch near Munjeong Station since everyone can just pick whatever they're craving. I'd just worked out and was hot, so I got the cold soba + tonkatsu set, while my partner ordered the hire katsu.

### Seating at Gome Mui and the yogurt drink after the meal

The place was full so I didn't take interior photos, but they seem to give you a yogurt drink after you finish eating? There was a stack of them up there haha, perfect for a palate cleanser. There were quite a few tables, plus a counter seat near the door that looked great for eating solo.

## What the 16,400-won cold soba and tonkatsu set looks like

*Cold soba + tonkatsu set, ₩16,400*

The cold soba + tonkatsu set arrived beautifully plated! The portion of cold soba is huge — the plate is big and I was surprised by how large the ladle-like spoon was, but it actually made eating really easy, hah. Piling noodles and broth onto the spoon and slurping it down was so satisfying.

Then came my partner's hire katsu! The inside was just the right shade of pink and looked delicious. Salt, wasabi, and tonkatsu sauce were all provided, so you could dip it however you like. Lately I've really been into dipping it in salt.

I kept taking photos of the color of this tonkatsu — too pink and it starts looking more like ham than pork, because it gets too soft. I think this level of pink is just right for me.

## How it tastes: soba broth, yuzu pickled radish, fried tofu

![Eating cold soba and tonkatsu together at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set-12-18779-900.webp)

Overall, the cold soba and tonkatsu combo worked really well together. The broth was cold and rich, the noodles were chewy, and adding as much wasabi as I liked made it even better. Summer's ending soon, but this is great to eat in summer, and also good for when you're hot after working out like I was 👍🏻

![Yuzu danmuji served alongside Gome Mui's cold soba](https://img.superchart.com/images/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set-13-1pcjl-900.webp)

This yuzu danmuji (pickled radish) comes alongside it, and biting into a crunchy piece right when you start to feel a bit tired of the noodles is perfect! Tangy and refreshing.

![Close-up of fried tofu and noodles in the cold soba](https://img.superchart.com/images/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set-14-1nzwi-900.webp)

And the fried tofu in the cold soba is so tasty — the two really go so well together. Having just come from a sweaty workout, it felt like a full energy recharge.

The tonkatsu that came alongside was probably meant as more of a side dish to the soba, so I didn't expect much, but the breading was crispy and the inside wasn't tough at all — nicely fried! The soba portion was huge but I cleaned my plate. The soba and tonkatsu combo was seriously so good ㅜㅜ ❤️

## Cold soba set or hire katsu? What to order at Gome Mui

![Cross-section of a piece of hire katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set/munjeong-gourmet-mui-cold-soba-katsu-set-15-1gipg-900.webp)

Still, if I had to choose one, I'd pick the hire katsu! It really is hard to beat hire. Perfectly fried tonkatsu, dipped lightly in salt — how is anyone supposed to beat that? There are already a few good tonkatsu spots near Munjeong Station, but Gome Mui has really jumped into the scene ^_^ Looking forward to seeing more from them, hehe. Next time I want to try the tonkatsu curry!

Gome Mui is a new spot that just opened near Munjeong Station!!! With a big menu and solid taste across the board, it's a place you can visit without much worry. I recommend it!
