## In short

Sinbok Myeongwan is a mainland Chinese-style restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gangnam Station in Seoul. For lunch with her husband, the writer ordered yuyuk dosak-myeon (beef knife-cut noodles), shrimp fried rice and shaomai dumplings, and found a rich mala-scented broth, noodles shaved by knife, and dumplings bursting with juice. Sinbok Myeongwan is a good call when you want a hearty Chinese lunch near Gangnam Station.

### Inside Sinbok Myeongwan: solo bar seats and the private room

The first thing I noticed walking in was the sleek, stylish interior. Modern, calm lighting paired with refined materials gives off a upscale feel. We visited during lunch and the place was already packed with customers — a lively vibe befitting a Gangnam Station hotspot.

There are window-side bar seats set up well for solo diners, great for stopping by without stress during a busy lunch. There's also a separate private room off to one side, perfect for a date with a partner or an important meal.

Sinbok Myeongwan's menu was made up of noodles, dim sum, rice dishes, fried dishes, and stir-fries — lots of single-dish options great for lunch.

## Three dishes we ordered for lunch at Sinbok Myeongwan

![Table set with lunch order at Sinbok Myeongwan](https://img.superchart.com/images/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai-11-1buah-966.webp)

We ordered yuyuk dosak-myeon (beef knife-cut noodles), shrimp fried rice, and shaomai from the dim sum section.

![Peanuts served as a basic side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai-12-1rek7-966.webp)

![A plate of jasai pickled mustard greens](https://img.superchart.com/images/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai-13-13wqu-966.webp)

![Small dish of dim sum sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai/shinbok-myeonkwan-gangnam-lunch-shumai-14-18aqn-966.webp)

First, peanuts, jasai (pickled mustard greens), and dumpling sauce came out as the basic side dishes.

### Yuyuk dosak-myeon: beef knife-cut noodles in mala broth

The moment the dish arrived, the rich color of the broth caught my eye. The deep red really stirred up my appetite just from looking at it.

The beef came in thick chunks, and the moment I bit in — a nice surprise. No dryness at all, it went down smooth and soft. Each chew released a savory burst of meat juices along with the spice profile distinctive to beef soup.

The broth was rich, the real deal. Deep bone broth combined with a tingly mala aroma and chili oil made for a savory flavor that put me in a great mood. It was refreshing enough to work as a hangover cure, and I kept reaching for more.

Being a specialty knife-cut noodle shop, the noodle texture was the highlight here. Since the noodles are shaved off with a knife, they're thick in the middle and thin at the edges, giving a varied texture in every bite. The chewy, dumpling-like texture was appealing, and the thin edges soaked up the seasoning well, so the noodles and broth blended together nicely rather than staying separate.

I ate it alongside the beef and jasai without ever getting tired of it. Sinbok Myeongwan's beef knife-cut noodles bring together rich broth, tender meat, and chewy noodle texture in perfect balance — I totally fell for it💕

### Shrimp fried rice with a smoky wok finish

This was my husband's order — the fried rice came neatly piled on a wide, shallow plate, generously topped with shrimp. The shrimp were cut into bite-sized pieces but still looked plump, so you could see the springy texture just by looking at it.

One bite in and a smoky, savory wok-hei flavor spread through my mouth. Each grain of rice was well fried in oil and had a fluffy, separate texture, and the shrimp had this popping, plump bite that was just artful. The more I ate, the more the savoriness and the shrimp's umami came together and I couldn't stop eating.

Paired with the refreshing jasai, my husband scraped the plate clean down to the very last spoonful.

The egg drop soup that came alongside also cut through the richness of the fried rice nicely as a pairing.

## Shaomai dumplings at Sinbok Myeongwan

The shaomai came out freshly steamed in a dim sum basket, still steaming. The yellow wrapper and orange roe garnish looked adorable and pretty.

One bite in and the warm juices trapped inside the thin wrapper burst all through my mouth. Combined with the flavor of pork and shrimp, it was absolutely delicious.

Eaten together with the provided ginger sauce, I enjoyed it without any greasiness.
