## In short

5PM sunset hour is a neighborhood bakery café in Yeongjongdo, Incheon. I tried its signature salt bread alongside butter rice cakes, scones, financiers, and egg tarts, then reheated the leftovers at 160°C for 8 minutes the next day. Verdict: a lovely stop for a crisp crust and clean, buttery flavor.

## A neighborhood bakery café found on a Yeongjongdo drive

Today, I’m introducing a hidden dessert spot I stopped by on a weekend drive for a little change of scenery. With the weather getting cooler lately, I’m sure lots of you are planning outings to Yeongjongdo. While looking for somewhere to relax with delicious bread and a cup of coffee, I visited 5PM sunset hour (선셋아워), a much-talked-about spot for salt bread in Yeongjongdo.

![5PM sunset hour shop in Yeongjong Sky City](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongjongdo-sogeumbbang-butter-crust/yeongjongdo-sogeumbbang-butter-crust-02-2b9q9-900.webp)

Rather than being in the middle of a busy commercial district, it sits on the first floor of the KCC Suisse apartment complex in Yeongjong Sky City, Jungsan-dong. It felt less like a flashy tourist café and more like a cozy neighborhood bakery where regulars pop in early in the morning as if it were second nature.

If you’re driving, enter through the apartment entrance and use the ground-level parking lot reserved for the commercial units. The parking area is not especially large, so I’d recommend allowing extra time during peak weekend hours.

The shop opens early, at 7 AM, and apparently plenty of people pick up morning coffee on their way to work. Freshly baked breads start filling the display one by one from 9 AM, so that would be a great time to stop in.

## Wood-toned interior and terrace seating

Inside, the compact but stylish wood furniture and soft orange indirect lighting make the space feel wonderfully cozy. True to the shop’s name, which captures the warm feeling of a Porto sunset, simply being there made me feel calm.

The baking room, where dough is made and bread is baked on-site, and the bar for hand-drip coffee take up a large part of the interior. As a result, the dine-in tables are compact and mostly for two, and there seem to be lots of takeaway customers.

There is, however, a neat terrace outside. In pleasant weather, it looked like a nice place to take a short break at an outdoor table with children or a pet.

## Ordering classic salt bread and baked treats

As soon as I stood in front of the display, a savory, deep buttery aroma gently filled the air. There was also a solid lineup of baked treats: financiers, scones, egg tarts, and crisp butter rice cakes.

Since it was my first visit, I wanted to properly try the most basic and signature item. So I ordered 5PM’s classic salt bread, plus butter rice cakes, scones, financiers, and several kinds of egg tart.

You can buy items individually, but choosing the Sosa Set of four salt breads gives you a ₩1,000 discount. There are also set benefits when you order drinks, making the prices feel very reasonable. Looking at the people getting takeaway, most seemed to be picking up two bags of the Sosa Set as their default.

## Salt bread crisp like a baguette, chewy inside

The moment I picked up the bread I ordered, I could feel at my fingertips that its texture was distinctly different from ordinary bread. Instead of compressing softly like a dinner roll or sandwich bread, its crust was crisp and pleasantly firm, like the outside of a baguette.

![Long-shaped salt bread](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongjongdo-sogeumbbang-butter-crust/yeongjongdo-sogeumbbang-butter-crust-11-17cb3-966.webp)

It was long rather than flat and rounded, so the oven heat had reached it evenly—from the top and sides to the bottom.

Even before tasting it, its texture and well-made shape made it easy to see why so many people count this among Yeongjongdo’s standout salt-bread spots. With one bite, the crust crackled loudly enough to hear beside my ear. The outside was lively and crisp, while the inner dough retained its layers and chewed softly and springily, almost like wood-fired pizza dough or cheese.

### The butter cave and pearl salt combination

Split it open and you immediately see the large, round “butter cave” running through the dough like a snail shell. Plenty of butter had melted into it, creating a rich flavor, but it never felt greasy or heavy; instead, it finished beautifully clean. I really loved that.

The savory pearl salt neatly balanced the butter’s umami from behind, so I could enjoy it cleanly to the last bite without getting tired of it. It truly had the depth and texture you would expect from a Yeongjongdo salt-bread favorite with so much word of mouth behind it.

## How to enjoy leftover salt bread the next day

The other butter rice cakes, scones, financiers, and egg tarts were all so delicious too. I was happy that there were so many breads beyond the salt bread that hit exactly the right spot for my taste. I packed the leftovers generously in paper bags, then gave them about 8 minutes in an air fryer at 160°C the next day. The crisp-outside, moist-inside texture and buttery flavor came right back, just as when I first picked them up at the shop, and made for a wonderful brunch.

Rather than those breads that are simply soft like sandwich bread, I sincerely recommend this place to anyone who prefers a baguette-like crisp exterior with a satisfyingly chewy center. It is also perfect for an easy takeaway stop on the way home after a drive around Yeongjongdo. If you want properly made, clean-tasting bakery goods and fragrant brewed coffee, 5PM sunset hour (선셋아워) is a Yeongjongdo salt-bread spot well worth visiting.
