## In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch (현선이네 용산본점) is a bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant on Yongridan-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, that opened as a street cart in 2004 and now runs eight company-owned branches. After browsing the Yongsan Electronics Market and watching an IMAX film at CGV Yongsan, the writer ordered the Hyeonseon-i combo set with normal-spice tteokbokki, which came with sundae (blood sausage) and liver, mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), mixed fritters and three odeng (fish cake) skewers. The sweet-and-spicy school-front-style tteokbokki and the savory odeng broth were the highlights, and the three spice levels make Hyeonseonine easy even for those who can't take heat.

Hi everyone~! I came to Yongsan after a long while~! I wandered around the Yongsan electronics market that Jensen Huang apparently visits often~ Still crowded and buzzing with that Yongsan energy, which I loved~ I'd heard the IMAX screen at CGV Yongsan Station is always the best, so I finally watched a movie there~! Wandering around worked up an appetite~?!

## What kind of place is Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch?

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a traditional bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant on Hangang-daero 39-gil in Yongridan-gil, Yongsan, Seoul. It started as a street cart in 2004 and now runs eight directly operated branches! If you visit Yongsan often you'll know it~ the traditional bunsik spot that's kept watch over Yongsan! And this Yongsan location is the main branch~

I was craving thick, school-front-style tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), so I came here~! This is Hyeonseonine haha

## Inside Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch and its self-serve bar

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch was surprisingly big and spacious for a tteokbokki place~! There were lots of office workers dining solo, and groups gathered to cook instant tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) together at their tables. Plenty of staff too, each clearly assigned to hall or kitchen duties~ a systematic bunsik restaurant indeed!

## Hyeonseonine's menu and how to pick your spice level

Hyeonseonine's signature is deliciously spicy tteokbokki~! You can pick mild, normal, or spicy, which was a huge relief for us heat-shy folks haha

There's instant tteokbokki that gets better the longer it simmers, handmade mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), handmade sundae (blood sausage), warm hearty odeng (fish cake), and crispy mixed fritters~! Every bunsik menu item is here! Nice that you can order à la carte or go for a set or combo~~

## Is the Hyeonseon-i combo set enough for two people?

We ordered the Hyeonseon-i combo set at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch~! It comes with normal-spice tteokbokki, sundae/liver, mini gimbap, mixed fritters, and three odeng skewers, so we got to taste everything! It's enough for two as a meal, or up to three as a snack!~ It arrived almost right after ordering, perfect for busy modern life~

### How normal-spice tteokbokki and the odeng broth taste

The tteokbokki was just the right sweet-spicy balance, with sauce well soaked into the rice cakes so I kept reaching for more..! Made without any fancy tricks, just traditional and tasty?! And a sip of the odeng broth... ah, bunsik odeng really is the best! Clean yet savory, so I kept spooning it up nonstop haha There were three squiggly odeng skewers too, so my husband and I shared happily~

### Mixed fritters, handmade sundae and mini gimbap

The fritters included vegetable, yakki-mandu (pan-fried dumpling), squid, and sweet potato, each cut in half for easy sharing, and best of all, super crispy with generous filling~haha Tasted like something mom made at home. The handmade sundae (blood sausage) had more volume than expected! The liver was cut in thick pieces too, no gamey smell, and delicious! The mini gimbap had cooled a bit but I dipped it into the warm broth~! We came for tteokbokki, but you'd miss the sides otherwise, right?! Nice that Hyeonseonine has this combo set so you can eat a variety in small portions without getting tired of it~!
