## In short

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck restaurant tucked in the mountains in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon. When you go to Ganghwa Island, deciding where to eat matters just as much as the sea or the sightseeing spots. This time, I wanted a slightly special dining atmosphere, so I visited Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch.

The vibe was completely different from a typical city grill house. It's tucked away in the mountains, so even the drive there felt relaxed and quiet. I went with my kids, and between the tasty duck and the little sense of a mini trip, it ended up being a memorable place.

They can close early once ingredients run out, so I'd recommend calling ahead before you go.

## A restaurant tucked in the mountains

The closer we got to the restaurant, the quieter the scenery became, and I really liked that. Unlike the usual city grill houses, it's surrounded by mountains and nature, so eating here felt like a little trip.

When we come to Ganghwa with the kids, we usually just hit the tourist spots, so eating a meal out in nature like this felt special in its own way. The interior had a relaxed, no-pressure feel for families, and I actually saw a lot of other families there too.

## With kids along, we ordered both jumulleok and duck roast

That day we ordered 2 servings of ori jumulleok (spicy stir-fried duck) + 1 serving of ori roseu (duck roast) + fried rice, totaling 63,000 won. Since we had the kids with us, we made sure to get something non-spicy too, haha.

How to eat it deliciously! Hehe.

The basic side dishes were yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), sweet potato stems, zucchini, stir-fried potato, candied sweet potato, and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) — all of them paired perfectly with the duck.

### The plain duck roast was easy to share with the kids

Grill setup! The ori jumulleok gets pre-grilled once over charcoal before it's brought to the table, while the roseu is cooked straight on the grill in front of you. The ori roseu we ordered for the kids was a hit too. Jumulleok has a strong seasoning and smoky flavor that can be a bit much for kids, but the roseu is plain and mild, so it was easy to share with them.

![Duck roast grilled together with vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangwha-duck-jumulleok-family-meal/gangwha-duck-jumulleok-family-meal-12-1oys1-900.webp)

Since the duck has almost no seasoning, the kids could eat it without any worries, and it was also a great way to appreciate the meat's natural, clean flavor. There were plenty of vegetables too, so it was easy to get the kids to eat their veggies, haha.

If you're going out for duck as a family meal, I think ordering one jumulleok and one roseu is a solid combo. The adults get to enjoy the seasoned jumulleok while the kids eat the roseu.

## The flavor of charcoal pre-grilled ori jumulleok

The owner was over on the side grilling the jumulleok with real effort — grilling it this way brings out such a strong smoky flavor, and it was so good, haha.

Eating seasoned duck grilled over charcoal felt completely different from meat cooked on a regular grill plate. The meat picked up a proper charcoal aroma, so every bite had a subtle smoky note.

With the savory seasoning and the smoky charcoal aroma together, my chopsticks kept reaching back for more. Duck meat can easily feel greasy, but grilling it over charcoal cut that down, and it went even better wrapped with lettuce.

Wrapping it up with spring onion and garlic!! Personally, I felt the flavor really came alive more when eating the meat with vegetables rather than plain.

## Finishing with fried rice, of course

After eating a good amount of meat, we ordered the fried rice too. Since it's fried in the leftover sauce from the ori jumulleok, it had a totally different charm from the meat itself. Even though we were already fairly full, it felt like a shame to skip the fried rice. The jumulleok sauce had soaked into the rice so well, making it a great way to wrap up the meal after the meat.

After eating seasoned grilled meat like this, finishing with fried rice really does feel like completing the meal properly, haha.

## A solid spot for a family meal on Ganghwa

What I liked about this visit to Deok Ori Jumulleok was that beyond just the food, I could also enjoy the surrounding atmosphere. Being tucked away in the mountains gave it a completely different feel from eating in a crowded city.

If you're planning an outing to Ganghwa with kids, it could work well to check out one tourist spot and then fill up on duck for a solid meal. Especially with kids along, I'd recommend ordering the roseu alongside the more strongly seasoned jumulleok rather than just jumulleok alone. Splitting jumulleok and roseu between us made the menu choice much more satisfying.

### Overall thoughts

Of everything we ate, the ori jumulleok with its proper charcoal aroma stood out the most. The seasoned duck combined with that smoky flavor was something hard to recreate at home, and the ori roseu was plain and mild, great for eating with the kids. Finishing off with the fried rice left us thoroughly full.

Above all, since the restaurant is set in the mountains, I loved being able to enjoy the scenery while eating. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Jeondeungsa in Ganghwa, or somewhere relaxed to eat with family, Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is worth keeping in mind. Next time our family comes back to Ganghwa, I'd like to try some of their other duck menu items. 😊
