## In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a Korean beef bulgogi restaurant on Hagikso-ro in Michuhol, Incheon, directly across from the Incheon District Court. On a weekend lunch visit, a couple ordered the ₩27,900 Korean beef bulgogi set, which includes dessert naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and omija (schisandra berry) tea, and cooked it on a brass plate with the broth and vegetables set around the rim. The beef at Dongchuwon Bulgogi was tender rather than chewy, and the portion easily filled two people.

## Blue Ribbon five years running: inside Dongchuwon Bulgogi and its private rooms

Dongchuwon Bulgogi has been run for 10 years by a certified meat master in Hagik-dong, and it's been selected as a Blue Ribbon restaurant five years in a row. You can see the master's plaque and various awards displayed inside.

The interior overall is a spacious, tidy, clean space with tables for four laid out generously — great for family gatherings or group get-togethers.

Further inside there's a room that fits anywhere from 6 to 28 people, good for private gatherings or family events. We visited on a weekend lunch and a family event was already underway in the room.

## What's on the self-bar and in the banchan at Dongchuwon Bulgogi?

There's a clean, pleasant self-serve bar off to the side where you can freely grab your basic banchan (side dishes). It's efficient and convenient — no need to call a staff member for the side dishes you want.

The basic banchan pair nicely with the hot pot — clean, mild flavors all around.
Basic banchan: napa cabbage kimchi, pickles, pickled onion, spicy radish salad, mustard-leaf pickles, dinner rolls, salad.
Apparently all the banchan served at Dongchuwon Bulgogi is made in-house.

Dongchuwon Bulgogi's signature dish is Seoul-style bulgogi, where you can choose between Korean beef bulgogi and 'old-style' bulgogi, and there's a great-value set menu that includes dessert naengmyeon and omija tea. You can also order à la carte, and there's a range of meal options like Korean beef hangover soup, clear gomtang (beef bone soup), and yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl).

We ordered the Korean beef bulgogi set, which comes with the bulgogi, dessert naengmyeon, and omija tea. From the dessert naengmyeon to the finishing omija tea, it's a generous spread.

You get a mountain of good-looking Korean beef bulgogi, plus a generous helping of vegetables like bok choy, mushrooms, and sweet pumpkin.

## How do you cook Korean beef bulgogi on the brass plate?

Bulgogi grilled on a brass plate — how fun is that!! You put the meat in the center of the brass plate, and the broth and vegetables go around the rim. The plate can scorch, so you need to keep adding more bulgogi. They also bring extra bulgogi broth separately, so you can refill without ever running short.

It's good-quality Korean beef bulgogi, and you can taste the freshness — the meat itself isn't chewy at all, just soft and juicy.

The soft, juicy meat fills your mouth with deep flavor. The portion in particular was huge — my husband and I ate until we were both completely full.

The vegetables simmered in the broth are a treat on their own too. There's a good variety of vegetables provided as standard, and they even include glass noodles, which I love.

### Making a mini bulgogi burger with the dinner rolls

Dongchuwon Bulgogi gives you a dinner roll as standard — stuff it with the fresh salad and mustard-leaf pickles from the banchan bar, plus some bulgogi, and you've got yourself a mini bulgogi burger! Zesty and crunchy, and pretty filling too.

## Dessert naengmyeon and omija tea to finish

Once you've finished the bulgogi, you order dessert naengmyeon on the tablet. We ordered one mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and one bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) each! The bibim-naengmyeon comes piled with rich, savory sauce, and a separate icy broth is served alongside it. It's a great cold refresher to finish the meal.

The final dessert omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) is also included in the set. Sweet and refreshingly cold — the perfect way to wrap up the meal!
