## In short

Imokase Hongsi is a Korean dining bar in Seohae-gu, Incheon, that serves a home-style course of banchan and drinking snacks put together by the 'imo' (auntie) running the kitchen. The 25,000₩-per-person course brought out more than ten dishes — octopus vegetable porridge, pork jowl bossam, bamboo shoot and conch salad, cheongyang tuna jeon, and handmade chicken feet terrine — plus an added order of boneless monkfish fry. Two of us ate and drank well for around 70,000₩, making it a solid value Korean bar near Seongnam Station.

It's September, and I heard there was a great Korean bar in Seongnam-dong, so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out~ Here's my review of 'Imokase Hongsi' (이모카세 홍시), a hotspot in Seongnam-dong. Let's go!

## Location and parking at Imokase Hongsi

![Exterior and entrance of the building housing Imokase Hongsi](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-02-tvphe-850.webp)

'Imokase Hongsi,' a popular bar in Seongnam-dong, is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Seongnam Station. It's also close to Ruwon City, Cheongna, Seongnam Intersection, and Geobuk Market, so it's easy to get to. It's on the 1st floor of the building with Arenyeok Mul Dakgalbi, so keep that in mind when you visit!

If you're driving, you can park for free in the building's basement lot, which makes things convenient. (Free parking for 100 minutes in the building.)

## What kind of place is Imokase Hongsi?

'Imokase Hongsi' is a Korean dining bar where you can enjoy a full spread of home-style Korean drinking snacks made by an 'imo' (auntie). They run a weekly menu, so the lineup changes every time, built around the freshest seasonal ingredients of the day. On the day we visited, this was the menu!

They say the menu is announced every Tuesday on Instagram or Karrot. For groups of 3 or more, you need to order at least 2 courses, and reservations are accepted until 5:30pm — after that, it's first-come, first-served.

## Interior atmosphere and self-service corner

The interior overall had a calm, cozy vibe, with enough space between tables that conversation was easy! It felt comfortable whether you're solo, on a date, or with friends. Great for small gatherings, and also good for an after-work team dinner!

![Seating inside Imokase Hongsi](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-06-1vbrw-900.webp)

![Self-service drinks fridge](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-08-ptgs7-900.webp)

Ta-da~ There's a really wide selection of drinks, so you can pick based on your taste. I can't handle bitter or strong drinks, so I went with the rosé cheongha, which is refreshing, sweet, and about 7% ABV. My boyfriend just went with soju, no question. Drinks are self-serve — you grab them yourself.

![Bottled water and glasses on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-09-1lfl6-900.webp)

Each table gets bottled water, and you can grab more if you need it — though apparently a lot of extra bottles end up half-drunk and wasted! There's a water purifier right behind you, so it's better to use that for refills. Ice comes out too, so it stays cool. And there were disposable aprons next to the drinks fridge to protect our clothes! Since they're disposable, it felt more hygienic.

## The Imokase course lineup and price

![Menu board with extra dish prices at Imokase Hongsi](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-11-qr8zq-900.webp)

'Imokase Hongsi,' a popular bar near Seongnam Station, runs on an imokase course format, so you don't have to pick individual dishes! You get more than 10 Korean drinking snacks served in order, course by course. The lineup changes every week. The price is 25,000₩ per person! Pretty great, right? If you want extra dishes, you can order from the menu board. Here's what we had, and we left full.

- Imokase course for 2, 50,000₩
- Boneless monkfish fry (5pc), 7,000₩
- Soju x2, 10,000₩
- Rosé cheongha, 6,000₩

## Trying each dish on the Imokase menu

💃🏻Here comes the food we ordered🕺🏻

![Octopus vegetable porridge served with basic side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-12-15k4m-966.webp)

### Octopus vegetable porridge and basic side dishes

The porridge came with basic side dishes! Dongchimi (watery radish kimchi), stir-fried anchovies, and seasoned bellflower root. They paired really well with the porridge.

This is octopus vegetable porridge. It was hot, and with octopus mixed in, there were chewy bits here and there that made it fun to eat. Perfect for waking up the appetite.

![Spicy squid stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-14-lbff1-900.webp)

### Spicy squid stew

This is spicy squid stew. It was so refreshing and spicy in between other dishes — really good. If only our stomachs weren't already full, we would've ordered ramen noodles to add in... shame on our shrunken stomachs.

Ta-da! My boyfriend had Chamisul Original, I had rosé cheongha. Everyone drinks to their own taste, to their own capacity~

Ta-da, right after we finished the octopus vegetable porridge, the hearty dishes arrived.

### The best-seller: pork jowl bossam

This is pork jowl bossam (boiled pork wrap). It's Hongsi's best-selling dish, known for being moist and tender.

![Pork jowl bossam with side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-16-1wq5p-900.webp)

Kimchi, jeotgal (salted seafood), ssamjang (dipping sauce), peppers, and garlic all came out as sides that go well with bossam, great for wrapping together.

Picking up kimchi soaked in seasoning together with the soft, savory bossam and eating them together — completely delicious.

### Hand-picked, hand-trimmed bamboo shoot and conch salad

They said this bamboo shoot and conch salad was picked and trimmed by hand! You could really feel the care that went into it. The conch was very chewy, and the bamboo shoots weren't tough, with the characteristic flavor coming through in a sweet-and-sour way. It was delicious. This is also great eaten together with the bossam.

![Cheongyang pepper tuna jeon and beef sirloin yukjeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-19-yf1kv-900.webp)

### Cheongyang pepper tuna jeon and beef sirloin yukjeon

The cheongyang pepper tuna jeon (savory tuna pancake) was nutty and mild, but topped with a spicy kick from cheongyang chili, so it never got boring. The beef sirloin yukjeon (egg-coated beef pancake) had lean, clean beef sirloin coated in egg batter, savory and rich. Both were great drinking food.

![Chilled perilla leaf pasta](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-20-u2po5-900.webp)

### Chilled perilla leaf pasta

Chilled pasta full of perilla flavor! The nutty perilla oil, fragrant perilla leaves, and savory salty gim (seaweed flakes) worked together really well. It's the kind of flavor that just clicks.

### Signature handmade chicken feet terrine

This is Hongsi's signature dish, handmade chicken feet terrine! They say it's boiled with care for a long time. There was no gamey smell, and it was soft, chewy, and clean-tasting.

### Clam and rice cake secret menu

This is a secret menu item. A dish made with clams and rice cake — how do I put it, it tastes kind of like bajirak-suljjim (steamed clams in wine). The clams' savory depth and the chewy rice cake went together really well! A really charming dish.

### Dessert: cream cheese hogam and seasonal fruit

This is Imokase Hongsi's signature dessert, cream cheese hogam (호♥감), along with seasonal fruit. The seasonal fruit was melon and orange, and both were insanely sweet!! Sweet juice spread all through my mouth, making it a great palate cleanser. Cream cheese hogam is a dessert with cream cheese, walnuts, and dried persimmon — the soft, dense, nutty cream cheese, the crunchy texture of the walnuts, and the chewy sweetness of the dried persimmon all came together beautifully. So good.

## Extra order: boneless monkfish fry (5pc)

![Boneless monkfish fry with hyangchwi pepper, 5 pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-23-16ipi-900.webp)

![Boneless monkfish fry dipped in seasoning sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub/seongnam-imokase-hongc-korean-course-pub-24-t33tr-900.webp)

Do you know hyangchwi pepper, the one with a strong Chinese-spice flavor? This boneless monkfish fry has it mixed in. The outside was crispy, and the boneless monkfish inside was moist and soft. They gave us a seasoning sauce to dip it in, and it was so good that way. Next time I'm ordering the 8-piece portion!

Before we knew it, the drinks were gone too. Cleaned up, imokase.

## Final verdict

- With the imokase course, you don't have to order a bunch of individual dishes — you get 10 varied drinking snacks in one generous spread
- Great value for the price
- Handmade dishes made with care by an 'imo,' home-style Korean bar food
- Clean, comfortable interior
- Easy access, about 5 minutes on foot from Seongnam Station
- Friendly owner

It was a day where we ate well and full for a solid price with a well-put-together course. How about trying 'Imokase Hongsi,' a popular bar in Seongnam-dong, for a solo drink, a date, or a gathering with friends~
