## In short

Mimi China is a Chinese restaurant in a standalone building on Cheonjeong-gu-ro in Paju, Gyeonggi, with a wide private parking lot out front and baby chairs for families. Stopping by after a family grave-tending trip, the group ordered jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce), an extra-large sinmi jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), handmade gunmandu (pan-fried dumplings) and a bowl of rice, and the jjajang sauce stir-fried with vegetable juice alone plus the dumplings served with doubanjiang dip stood out most. Mimi China won over even the children's tastes, making it a place worth returning to on every trip through Paju.

Mimi China, a jjajangmyeon (black bean noodle) spot in Unjeong that turned out to be perfect for a family meal.

On our way back from grave-tending in Paju with the family before the holiday, there was a Chinese restaurant I'd been wanting to try for a while. This time we finally made it happen!

The whole family headed to Mimi China, already a well-known name in Paju. From the jjajangmyeon to the jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), the crispy tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and the especially savory handmade gunmandu (pan-fried dumplings)—every single dish was so good that all the way home we kept saying, let's come back here! 🤭 Here's my heartfelt record of the visit to Mimi China.

## Where is Mimi China, and what are the hours and parking?

### A standalone building in Paju with a big, easy parking lot

Mimi China, a Paju Chinese restaurant known for its handmade dumplings, occupies its own standalone building with a very spacious private parking lot out front, so even newer drivers could park without any worry!

Thanks to the roomy parking, I felt at ease the moment we pulled in. 😆

The interior felt like a pretty café—clean and full of atmosphere. The space is spacious and comfortable, and with baby chairs on hand, it looks great for family meals with young kids or group gatherings.

We arrived a bit past lunchtime, yet so many people were still eating that I could tell this really is a famous local favorite. I had to wait until after 2pm before I could even get a clear shot of the interior.

## Kiosk ordering and what's on the self-serve bar

Mimi China has a smart ordering kiosk at every table, so we could take our time browsing the menu and order comfortably. Beyond the standard jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk, the menu even had a seasonal specialty—yeolmu-mil-myeon (cold noodles with young radish greens). It gave me confidence in their noodle dishes—I felt like you couldn't go wrong with any pick.

Our family ordered a spread to suit everyone's taste: jjajangmyeon, sinmi jjamppong (large), tangsuyuk, handmade gunmandu, and a bowl of rice. After ordering, three basic side dishes came out—danmuji (pickled radish), jjachai (pickled mustard tuber), and onions.

There's a neatly arranged self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant, so you can freely grab more side dishes during the meal without feeling awkward about it.

## What does Mimi China's jjajangmyeon taste like?

Jjajangmyeon—the most basic of basics at any K-Chinese restaurant! A place has to nail the basics to really be called a good restaurant, and Mimi China's jjajangmyeon was hands down excellent. The secret to their jjajang sauce is that it's stir-fried with no water at all, using only the juice released from the vegetables! That's probably why it wasn't overly sweet—instead, the vegetables' own savoriness and natural sweetness combined for deep umami.

![A bowl of Mimi China's jjajangmyeon stir-fried with vegetable juice](https://img.superchart.com/images/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings-08-azt0n-900.webp)

The noodles were also cooked perfectly—springy and clinging well to the sauce rather than sliding off, wrapped gently in the deep flavor of the chunjang (black bean paste).

> Wow, this is the real deal for jjajangmyeon!

That's the rave review my husband gave after one bite. 🤭 The portion of sauce was also very generous, so we ordered extra rice to mix into the leftover sauce, and our second kid ate a hearty meal too.

## Extra-large sinmi jjamppong: how is the broth?

As a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) loyalist, I always order jjamppong at a Chinese restaurant! Our elementary-school son said he was old enough now to want to try jjamppong too, so we ordered the sinmi jjamppong in the large size. (Watching him eat, I suspect we'll soon need one jjamppong per person 🤣.) The sinmi jjamppong was visually overwhelming from the start—scallions, vegetables, and seafood toppings piled up like a tower over the noodles.

![Large sinmi jjamppong piled high with seafood and vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings-10-y29pp-900.webp)

I took a big spoonful of the broth first. It wasn't an aggressively spicy flavor—more like a deep smoky aroma spreading gently, wrapping the mouth in a clean finish. The seafood-based broth had no muddiness at all, so it was refreshing and pleasantly spicy! The noodles had soaked up the broth nicely while staying chewy and springy, so even to the last bite they hadn't gone soft.

The vegetables and seafood were so plentiful that the texture alongside the noodles was excellent too. My son kept fishing out the squid, saying it was really chewy. 🤣 If you love a broth that's spicy yet refreshing, I highly recommend this one.

## Tangsuyuk and handmade gunmandu: worth ordering?

A must for our second kid, who always picks tangsuyuk! The moment the freshly fried, steaming tangsuyuk landed on the table, its size surprised us first.

![A plate of freshly fried, large tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings-13-1kpnu-900.webp)

Each piece was quite large and thick. When I cut it up with scissors for my kid, the inside was packed with tender meat. Personally, I'd recommend eating it whole—bite into it and you get a crisp crunch, followed by juicy, clean-tasting meat bursting through.

![Tangsuyuk cut open to show the meat inside](https://img.superchart.com/images/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings-14-y4rrn-900.webp)

The sauce came in its own pretty little bowl, so we could enjoy it either poured over or dipped, depending on preference. The sauce struck a good balance of sweet and tangy without being too sour, pairing wonderfully with the savory tangsuyuk.

### Handmade gunmandu with doubanjiang dipping sauce

Before visiting, I read reviews saying you absolutely must order the gunmandu (pan-fried dumplings), so I made sure not to forget it! 😆 They looked the part right away—golden brown and beautifully fried. The dumplings were quite large, heavy enough to feel it the moment I picked one up with my chopsticks.

![Golden fried handmade gunmandu from Mimi China](https://img.superchart.com/images/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings/mimi-china-paju-unjeong-jjajang-dumplings-17-1x70j-898.webp)

Inside the crispy dumpling skin was a filling packed with moist vegetables and ground meat. Alongside the soy sauce dip, they also gave us a doubanjiang (spicy fermented chili bean) sauce, and the spicy, umami-rich doubanjiang was truly a perfect match. The handmade gunmandu is Mimi China's hidden MVP dish. 😆 Strongly recommend!
