Arriving just before lunch on a Friday, the writer ate the beef bone broth pork noodles for 10,000 won, refilled the self-serve kimchi twice, and parked at the Handam Trail lot before walking on to Aewol Cafe Street after the meal. The food I most wanted to eat in Jeju was 'gogi guksu' (pork noodle soup). It's the signature dish you have to try at least once when you visit Jeju, so I'd been searching for it even before I landed. Just thinking about the rich broth and chewy noodles made my mouth water haha. I happened to have business near Aewol, went looking for a good spot nearby, and found this place! Enjoying pork noodles here and then heading over to the cafe street is such a great route! The Aewol Handam lot also offers 1 hour of support, so keep that in mind too! You can also book ahead through Naver Place reservations! I visited around Friday lunchtime, and there were quite a lot of customers...!! Definitely living up to its reputation as an Aewol lunch spot haha. I noticed locals coming and going here and there too. It seems well known as a favorite among Aewol locals as well. There can be a wait, so I'd recommend arriving with a bit of buffer time. The pork noodles finally arrived! The broth was pale and milky, packed with meat, and had a savory, clean flavor with just a hint of richness. I started with a sip of the broth — the distinctive nuttiness of beef bone broth came through strongly, but it wasn't heavy at all, just clean. The noodles were plump and chewy, medium-thickness, and the ratio to the broth was spot on. The pork was sliced thick but tender, with no off flavor at all — clean and clear, which kept me reaching for more. It leaned more toward gentle umami than saltiness, so I finished the broth completely. Topping it with the self-serve kimchi was such a great pairing.
