Hana Shabu Shabu Junggye Main Branch is a shabu-shabu and seiro-mushi place in unit 101 of the Brownstone Junggye building. I'd been to this Junggye-dong favorite once before — honestly, despite the name, it's a bit closer to Hagye Station than Junggye-dong! It's inside the Brownstone Junggye building, right next to Geonyoung Department Store, so it's one of those spots locals seem to visit often? Weekends especially bring long waits, so definitely make a reservation before you go! Just past the entrance of Hana Shabu Shabu Junggye Main Branch there's also a room? that fits two four-person tables. Great for a big family gathering or when two households want to eat together comfortably. Because there are plenty of shabu-shabu places around, but not many good cypress-steam spots, and honestly none I've tried elsewhere taste as good as this one..haha. So, seiro-mushi it was! And we went with the basic set~ Neither my friend nor I eat that much, and finishing a meal plus dessert felt like too much, so basic seemed right — and sure enough!! This Junggye-dong favorite really loads you up on vegetables — the lid wouldn't even close all the way. Can you see it? hahahaha Wait for the hourglass timer to run out and it's done! Once it's ready, the staff bring it down themselves, but we were too impatient and flipped it down ourselves... haha, so the owner ended up doing it for us. While waiting for the cypress steam, we snacked on beef tataki... grilled directly over open flame right in front of us, which somehow made it taste even better..>? The topping had a slightly spicy kick that added great umami.
