## In short

Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch is an aged-sashimi and seafood pub in the Youth Street alley by Exit 4 of Jongak Station in Jongno, Seoul. A 40,000-won platter of seasonal jumbo shrimp (daeha) arrived with flesh plump enough to fill a mouthful, and the cheese scallop bake came loaded with cheese that stretched with every scoop. Parang Haenyeojip is a good pick in Seoul for seafood and drinks with a seaside open-air vibe.

I went looking for a seafood pub near Jongak Station and ended up at Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch. I'm often around Jongak Station since it connects easily to Myeongdong and Gwanghwamun/City Hall, plus there's plenty to see outdoors these days along Cheonggyecheon. So while I was out, I figured I'd grab some good seafood. Here's my review of this Jongno pub, Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch, where the seasonal jumbo shrimp and cheese scallops left me very satisfied.

## Where is Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch and how do you get there?

Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch is a Jongak-area pojangmacha-style spot close to Jongak Station Exit 4. It's also near Cheonggyecheon and sits right in the Jongak Youth Street restaurant alley, so it was easy to find and had great access being so close to the station — a real find for seafood at Jongak Station! We wandered around Eulji-ro 1(il)-ga Station, Myeongdong, and Cheonggyecheon window-shopping and killing time during the day, then came here for dinner haha. Check the map for the exact location!

## What do the exterior and interior of Parang Haenyeojip look like?

True to its name (Parang Haenyeojip means "blue haenyeo house"), the exterior was full of blue tones. There was a menu board out front you could browse before going in, and the place is built with floor-to-ceiling windows — when they're open, it really feels like an outdoor pojangmacha.

Stepping inside, a projector played waves crashing on the beach, and a photo of Jinro's mascot character Doo Chwi (진로 뷔) hung on the wall, giving the whole space a cool, refreshing feel. I love zoning out to water and water sounds, so this kind of interior was especially my thing!

The interior really felt like a seaside pub, so even just for a moment, it felt like I was on a trip, having drinks at a great seafood spot.

As expected of a popular Jongak Station pub, it was packed with customers, but the staff were pros — the turnover was quick and tables were cleared cleanly and fast.

## Menu lineup and the free side dishes at Parang Haenyeojip

## Seaweed soup, blanched seaweed and hijiki with every order

The menu at Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch covers aged sashimi (sukseonghoe), seafood, grilled shellfish, jumbo shrimp, and more — even the noodle dish had an ocean theme. Inside there were plenty of round and square tables, giving it a lively, buzzing energy — this Jongak Station aged-sashimi spot definitely had a fun atmosphere.

The basic banchan were seaweed soup (miyeokguk), blanched seaweed, and hijiki (tot) — all seaweed dishes, which felt healthy and on-theme, and I liked that a lot.

## Seasonal jumbo shrimp for 40,000 won: how much do you get?

The first jumbo shrimp of the year for me! At Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch, the jumbo shrimp comes in a generous portion for ₩40,000.

They looked so fresh the shells seemed about to pop open, and the shrimp themselves were big and hearty.

Shrimp bought outside often don't have much meat, but these were genuinely big enough that each bite was a mouthful of flesh — great both to eat and to chew through.

The staff were also very thoughtful, checking in and bringing whatever we needed — it made me want to linger even longer! They gave us cotton gloves and plastic gloves so we could pick up and eat the shrimp neatly by hand haha.

![Jumbo shrimp meat held in hand](https://img.superchart.com/images/jonggak-paranghaenyeo-daeha-cheese-scallop/jonggak-paranghaenyeo-daeha-cheese-scallop-18-1pl0e-966.webp)

I was already pretty full, but I kept going back for more shrimp. Jumbo shrimp is good at home too, but eating it out here with that outdoor pojangmacha feel, with a drink in hand, was pure happiness.

And if you ask them to cut off the heads, they come back fried up — absolutely delicious!

## Is the cheese scallop bake worth adding to your order?

The vibe, the food, and the service were all so good that I couldn't not order more haha. We got the cheese scallop bake, and it came out in a giant size, packed with cheese, and it went so well with the sauce — it exceeded expectations.

The cheese stretched even with a full spoonful scooped up — such a generous portion, and perfect to eat even when you're already full. Cheese and shellfish don't count as calories, right? haha

## Would I go back to Parang Haenyeojip Jongno Branch?

Parang Haenyeojip, this Jongno pub, gave me the feeling of a trip to Eulwangni or Gwangalli beach, right in the middle of Seoul. I'd love to visit again and try more seafood. It's well known as a Jongak Station aged-sashimi spot, so next time I might try the sashimi. And of course, I want to eat the jumbo shrimp and cheese scallops again too, ㅠㅠ
