## In short

Dojeok Hapjeong is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sangsu Station in the Hapjeong area of Mapo, Seoul, serving pre-grilled knife-cut pork belly and pork jowl. One serving of calchamsamgyeopsal (knife-cut pork belly) costs 18,000 won, pork jowl 21,000 won and cheese bomb steamed egg 7,000 won, and the pork jowl was rich and juicy enough that a second serving followed. Four free parking spaces out front and the open-air feel of the 2nd floor are what make Dojeok Hapjeong worth the trip.

Went shopping for wedding clothes and shoes at Yeouido The Hyundai, got hungry, and ended up all the way in Hapjeong for Korean BBQ. At Dojeok Hapjeong, the pork jowl was way more delicious than the knife-cut pork belly — the rich, juicy flavor was on point!! Next time I'll have to try the gochujang pork belly too.

## Parking at Dojeok Hapjeong: 4 free spaces out front

If you're looking for a Hapjeong Korean BBQ spot with free parking right in front, this is a good pick. It's only 4 spots so they might be full — if so, you can use Trueparking Sangsu-dong lot. The address is 320-1 Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and it's listed as offering 2 hours free parking. There's barely any parking around Hongdae so this felt like a real win.

## Why the 2nd floor beats the 1st: open-air seating

I stopped by out of curiosity since they sell pre-grilled pork belly, a rarity among Hongdae BBQ spots. Dojeok Hapjeong has a 1st and 2nd floor. Personally the 1st floor felt a bit ordinary, while the 2nd floor had a strong terrace feel that I liked much better. Grilling meat in the evening breeze up there felt like paradise~

## Side dishes and free refills at the self-bar

Once seated, the basic side dishes (banchan) came out first — bean sprouts, shredded scallions, lettuce, perilla leaves, myeongi-namul (mountain garlic leaves), kimchi, garlic, macaroni salad, pickled radish, and ssamjang (dipping sauce). Quite a variety.

You can refill any banchan you run low on at the self-bar. Even the myeongi-namul is refillable!! So happy about that~~ Just note that salt isn't at the self-bar, so you'll need to ask a staff member for it separately.

## What we ordered at Dojeok Hapjeong and what it cost

For meat, we ordered one serving of calchamsamgyeopsal (knife-cut pork belly) and one serving of pork jowl. We also added the cheese bomb steamed egg. The doenjang rice looked interesting too — next time~~

> Calchamsamgyeopsal, 1 serving: ₩18,000 / Pork jowl, 1 serving: ₩21,000 / Cheese bomb steamed egg: ₩7,000

![One serving of raw pork jowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/dojeok-hapjeong-jeonggeumsal-rooftop/dojeok-hapjeong-jeonggeumsal-rooftop-10-2yyd2-966.webp)

The scored pork belly comes pre-grilled, while the pork jowl comes out raw. Interesting fact — they use an AI machine for the pre-grilling!! (Is this the beginning of the end for humans doing the grilling?)

## Knife-cut pork belly, best eaten with shredded scallions

They grilled the calchamsamgyeopsal first, so I dug in eagerly. The staff grill it to about 90% doneness for you. Maybe because it's cut thin, after the pre-grilling it felt a bit dry to me personally.

The pork belly tasted best topped with the sweet-and-sour shredded scallions.

## Pork jowl so good we ordered a second serving

The pork jowl was genuinely delicious. Super savory and melt-in-your-mouth rich, with juices bursting out as you chew — you really got that fatty, savory character of pork jowl. (And yes, I paid the price for it once I got home haha.) It was so good we ended up ordering a second serving. Among Hongdae BBQ spots, this pork jowl is top-tier~~ I came for the pork belly, but this time the pork jowl was what stuck with me.

## Cheese bomb steamed egg and the final verdict

The cheese bomb steamed egg lived up to its name — loaded with cheese. The portion was generous too, and maybe because of the ketchup, it ended up tasting a bit more like a rolled omelet than a steamed egg dish. Eating a spoonful between bites of meat helped cut the richness, and it worked well as a side.

The pork jowl was better than expected and stuck in my memory. (Pork jowl always makes me think of the guy from that health documentary who chewed it so satisfyingly haha, that crunchy-chewy texture!) The calchamsamgyeopsal was best eaten with shredded scallions, but my personal pick was hands-down the rich, juice-bursting pork jowl. The 2nd floor's terrace-like atmosphere was a plus, and free parking out front is great if you're driving. Next time I plan to have the pork jowl again and finish off with the gochujang pork belly too.
