Picking somewhere to eat lunch in Daehangno on a weekday, I always end up going back to the same old spots.

This time I heard about a place that's been trending in Hyehwa lately, so I went for lunch. Even though it was a weekday, there were no seats left when I arrived and I waited about 10 minutes — let me introduce this hot spot!

## Where is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, and how long is the weekday lunch wait?

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno (오밀 혜화대학로점) is on the 2nd floor. It's within walking distance from Hyehwa Station toward Daehangno.

Even visiting during weekday lunch hours, there was about a 10-minute wait.

It's been showing up a lot on Instagram lately, so there were quite a few people even on a weekday afternoon. If you're planning to visit during lunch hours or on weekends, I'd recommend factoring in a wait.

## Inside Omil: the dining room, the self-service bar and the restrooms

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno has wood-tone interiors with cute little props placed around, which gave it a comfortable feel. The tables weren't packed too close together either, so it was easy to talk without worrying about the next table. The space could seat about 10 tables total.

At the self-service bar, the water dispenser, cups, and napkins were all neatly arranged.

The bathroom inside was also clean, which gave me the impression that hygiene management here is solid. They even had mouthwash ready, which felt very thoughtful.

Every single item on the menu looked delicious, but I noticed there was a two-person set option. We ordered the rubber duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta (K-butter pasta), and crunchy corn fritters as a two-person set, and picked orange juice and Pepsi Zero Lime for drinks.

If we'd ordered everything separately plus drinks, it would have come to around ₩54,700, but ordering as a set — including both drinks — brought it down to ₩51,700 for two. The set menu is a bit cheaper. The portions were also just right for sharing between two people.

## Rubber duck omurice: the chick decoration you take home

The rubber duck omurice had little chicks made out of quail eggs on top of the egg, and they were unbelievably cute. Turns out the sunglasses-wearing chick and the tube on top weren't just decoration — they're souvenirs you get to take home! A restaurant where you leave with an adorable little keepsake.

The sauce inside wasn't intense, more mild and smooth, so I kept scooping more. The quail eggs weren't just for decoration either — eaten with the sauced rice and egg, the combination was really good.

## What does the gochujang butter pasta at Omil taste like?

The gochujang butter pasta was exactly what it sounds like — a gochujang (fermented chili paste) base with buttery richness added, spicy but nutty at the same time.

The meat on top was really tender. It made eating it alongside the pasta smooth and enjoyable, nothing tough to chew through.

## Crunchy corn fritters with lemon: the most memorable dish

But for me, the crunchy corn fritters were the most memorable thing we ordered that day. It was a totally different vibe from corn fritters I've had elsewhere — crispy outside, with each kernel of corn chewy and bursting with deep sweetness.

There was seasoning sprinkled on top so it never felt plain, and I kept going back for more. It was so good I wanted to just fill up on corn alone!! (I'm a corn lover.) The sauce that came with it seemed like it might be a bit hit-or-miss — my friend and I had pretty different opinions on it. Personally I think it would've been even better with chipotle sauce, haha. And please, please squeeze lemon on it!!! The lemon is genuinely the secret weapon here.

## Show a Naver or Google Maps review for a free ade

For reference, the restaurant runs an event where if you verify a Naver receipt or Google Maps review in-store, you get a free ade. I wasn't able to take part this time, but it's worth keeping in mind if you visit.

## Is Omil a good Daehangno date spot before or after a play?

If you're trying to figure out where to eat on a date in Daehangno, I highly recommend Omil Hyehwa Daehangno!!

The dishes looked pretty and the atmosphere was relaxed, so it was good both for taking photos and for chatting.

Every single dish was delicious overall, but if I come back, the corn fritters are definitely what I'd order again.

Since there was a wait even on a weekday lunch, I'd recommend visiting with some extra time to spare.
