## In short

Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch is a Japanese-style restaurant in Sinjeongnegeori, Yangcheon, Seoul, serving udon, soba, pork cutlet and rice bowls. Eating alone, the writer ordered gakgi udon (udon with fried tofu) for 8,000 won and the old-style pork cutlet for 10,900 won, going back and forth between the tofu-loaded broth and the cutlet under brown sauce. With wood-tone walls and old posters, Haengbokhan Udon Gage is an easy place to eat on your own.

This time I'll introduce Haengbokhan Udon Gage, where I had a comfortable solo meal in Sinjeongnegeori.

It's a place where you can try a wide range of Japanese-style dishes, from udon to pork cutlet, soba, and rice bowls, so it seemed like a good spot to stop by when searching for a Japanese restaurant in Sinjeongnegeori and wanting a filling meal. I ordered the old-style pork cutlet and gakgi udon (deep-fried tofu udon) so I could try both.

### Inside Haengbokhan Udon Gage: retro posters and table seating

The inside of Haengbokhan Udon Gage Sinjeongnegeori Station Branch was set up mainly with 2- and 4-person tables, and when I visited, the atmosphere felt totally fine for eating alone. Overall it used a lot of wood tones, with warm-toned lighting throughout.

Old posters and props were hung on the walls, giving it a more nostalgic, retro feel than the sleek new Japanese restaurants you see these days. It didn't feel overly decorated — the relaxed vibe was actually a plus.

There were also baby chairs set up on one side, and baby tableware kept at the self-serve bar, so this could be useful info if you're visiting with a child.

## Menu and prices: udon, soba and pork cutlet

![Menu board showing udon, soba, and pork cutlet dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-10-jcy97-966.webp)

- Gakgi Udon ₩8,000
- Spicy Udon ₩8,500
- Fish Cake Udon ₩9,000
- Perilla Oil Soba ₩8,500
- Soba Noodles ₩8,500
- Plate Soba ₩10,500
- Bibim Udon ₩8,500
- Old-Style Pork Cutlet ₩10,900
- Cheese Pork Cutlet ₩11,900

The menu was quite varied. When looking for Japanese food in Sinjeongnegeori, it seemed better than places with only udon or soba, since you can also choose from pork cutlet and rice bowls.

![Table set with the ordered gakgi udon and old-style pork cutlet](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-11-159mv-966.webp)

I ordered two dishes: gakgi udon and old-style pork cutlet.

## Gakgi udon, 8,000 won: hot broth loaded with fried tofu

![Bowl of gakgi udon loaded with fried tofu](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-12-1eo9m-966.webp)

This is the gakgi udon. A large bowl comes with plenty of fried tofu, along with scallions, crown daisy greens, and dried seaweed flakes. Even in the photo, you can tell the tofu portion is quite generous.

Lifting a bite of noodles with my chopsticks, the thin udon noodles felt nostalgic.

The warm udon broth paired well with a fried dish like pork cutlet. Eating just the udon alone would have been fine for a solo visit, but ordering the pork cutlet alongside it definitely made the meal more filling.

## Old-style pork cutlet, 10,900 won, under brown sauce

![Old-style pork cutlet topped with brown sauce, served with cabbage salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-15-1pxd3-966.webp)

A wide pork cutlet came topped generously with brown sauce, served with cabbage salad, corn, and jalapeños. It's a different, familiar old-style pork cutlet, distinct from the thick Japanese-style tonkatsu you see a lot of these days.

![Plate of old-style pork cutlet served with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-16-r609m-966.webp)

The size was substantial enough to fill the plate, and it came with rice, making it a filling meal on its own. If you're looking for pork cutlet in Sinjeongnegeori and enjoy the old-fashioned style, this is worth considering.

## How filling is a solo meal at Haengbokhan Udon Gage?

![Solo meal spread with both udon and pork cutlet](https://img.superchart.com/images/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal/happy-udong-shinjeong-retro-solo-meal-17-1jnql-966.webp)

I was going to just get udon, but ended up ordering the old-style pork cutlet too — being able to alternate between the warm udon and crispy cutlet made for a satisfying meal.

With such a wide range of menu options, if you're looking for a place to eat alone in Sinjeongnegeori, or feel like having udon and pork cutlet together, give Haengbokhan Udon Gage a try.

### The verdict in one line

From udon to old-style pork cutlet — a Sinjeongnegeori spot that was easy and comfortable to enjoy solo.
