## In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul, started as a street cart in 2004 and now running 8 directly operated branches. A Sunday visit around 7pm meant a wait, and the 26,000 won Hyeonseonine Combo for three brought tteokbokki, gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), tuna mayo, sundae (blood sausage) and 3 skewers of long Busan-style fish cake, with fried flakes sprinkled over the tteokbokki as the best bite of the table. Soft wheat rice cakes in a sauce that is spicy and sweet at once make Hyeonseonine a place worth coming back to.

Today I went to Hyeonseonine, a tteokbokki spot in Yongsan that I love so much I've been back more times than I can count.

I'm the type who chases down tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) wherever I go, and Hyeonseonine is one of my absolute favorites — the kind of place I end up craving out of nowhere haha. Between the sweet-spicy tteokbokki, the crispy fritters, and that classic bunsik (Korean street-food snack) vibe, I always swing by whenever I'm in Yongsan 🤭 So today I'm putting together an honest review based on everything I've noticed across my many visits — the menu, the flavors, all of it!

## Where Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is and when it opens

> 2-13 Hangang-daero 39-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul / Daily 11:00–24:00

Hyeonseonine started out as a street food cart in 2004 and now runs 8 directly-operated branches as a well-loved tteokbokki restaurant.

## How long is the wait at 7pm on a Sunday?

I went around 7pm on a Sunday and there was a bit of a wait!! If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend avoiding typical mealtimes haha.

![Spacious dining hall seating at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-03-fpzdz-900.webp)

![Interior with well-spaced tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-04-1uccm-900.webp)

The interior was bigger and roomier than I expected, which I liked! You'd think a tteokbokki place would be small and cozy, but Hyeonseonine has plenty of space, so it works fine for group visits too haha.

## Hyeonseonine menu and prices

Hyeonseonine's menu is broadly split into regular tteokbokki and jeuk-seok (instant-style) tteokbokki.

![Menu board split into regular and instant-style tteokbokki](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-07-11mxz-900.webp)

The prices are really reasonable for the portion size too 👍🏻 Given how prices have gone up these days, getting this much food and this composition for the price felt like solid value 🤭

## What comes in the 26,000 won Hyeonseonine Combo for three

What I ordered this time was the Hyeonseonine Combo —

![Full spread of the Hyeonseonine Combo set](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-08-16gya-900.webp)

![Tteokbokki, gimbap, and sundae arranged together in the combo set](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-09-pvlst-900.webp)

Tteokbokki (spice level adjustable) + gimbap + tuna mayo + sundae (Korean blood sausage) + 3 skewers of long Busan-style fish cake, all for ₩26,000, serving 3. Having been loved for this long, Hyeonseonine clearly has its own distinct charm!

![Fried batter flakes sprinkled onto the tteokbokki](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-10-148vq-900.webp)

### Fried flakes sprinkled over the tteokbokki

The hidden weapon at Hyeonseonine, as far as I'm concerned, is the fried batter flakes 🤭

Sprinkle them over the tteokbokki and you get this crunchy texture plus a nutty flavor that comes alive — it's an absolutely perfect match with the tteokbokki! Try it once and you'll understand immediately why I call it a hidden weapon 😆

![Glossy wheat tteokbokki from Hyeonseonine](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo/hyunseonine-yongsan-tteokbokki-combo-11-1swxc-1200.webp)
*Shiny and glossy*

The rice cakes here are soft, chewy wheat tteok!! And the sauce isn't just aggressively spicy — it comes with a sweetness woven in too, so if you're a tteokbokki lover, you'll find yourself craving it periodically, just like me.

### Three skewers of squiggly Busan-style fish cake

There were 3 pieces of squiggly fish cake included 🍢 You can't have tteokbokki without fish cake, right haha. It's twisted into a curly shape so it looks cute, and dipping it deep into the tteokbokki sauce lets the spicy-sweet broth soak in, making it even tastier 🤭

### Mini gimbap and sundae in the combo

The mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) was also great to eat alongside the tteokbokki. It's a cute bite-sized portion, perfect for dipping right into the tteokbokki sauce haha.

And the glossy, shiny sundae can't be skipped either 🤭 The chewy, springy sundae is delicious on its own, but it really shines when dipped deep into the tteokbokki sauce.

## Naver review perk and is Hyeonseonine worth it?

Also, apparently if you write a Naver review, you get a refreshing slushie or a size-up on your tteokbokki. Getting a perk on top of already-delicious tteokbokki made the whole experience feel even more worthwhile haha.

The spicy-sweet tteokbokki, made even better with the crispy fried flakes, has that keep-coming-back flavor, so I think anyone who loves tteokbokki will be satisfied haha. Beyond the tteokbokki itself, you get to enjoy squiggly fish cake, sundae, and fritters together, and the Hyeonseonine Combo at ₩26,000 for 3 servings is pretty generous in both portion and composition, making it a great choice for group visits too.
