## In short

Huhugwan is a modern Asian Chinese izakaya on the 2nd floor at 2 Seosomun-ro 11-gil in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 1–2 minute walk from Exit 10 of City Hall Station. Two diners ordered three dishes at Huhugwan — garlic scape fried rice at 11,000 won, stir-fried water spinach at 9,000 won and beef noodle soup at 15,000 won — sharing fluffy fried rice, crunchy water spinach and a light Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup. ## What kind of restaurant is Huhugwan?

Huhugwan is a Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of 2 Seosomun-ro 11-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, a 1–2 minute walk from City Hall Station Exit 10. I was looking for lunch near City Hall Station and this time wanted something a bit different from the usual Chinese spot.

It's also close to Deoksugung Palace, so it works well before or after a stroll around the palace grounds. This is Huhugwan (煦煦館).

Being so close to City Hall Station, it's a solid lunchtime option for office workers hunting for a good restaurant near the station. Huhugwan is a Chinese restaurant that leans a different direction from what most people picture. It's less about craving jjajangmyeon or jjamppong and more a spot for when you want something a little different from typical Chinese food.

Huhugwan bills itself less as a plain Chinese restaurant and more as a modern Asian Chinese izakaya. During the day it's a space for a warm meal, and in the evening they dim the lights for a more atmospheric setting to enjoy food with drinks.

## Inside the 2nd-floor dining room and seating

Huhugwan is up a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor, with both bar seats and regular tables. Walking in, the vibe was noticeably different from a typical Chinese restaurant — it used classic Chinese colors and props but felt quite stylishly put together overall.

There are bar seats too, so eating solo looked easy enough, while the regular tables were good for sharing several dishes with friends or family.

## Three dishes for two at Huhugwan, and what they cost

Ordering at Huhugwan is by QR code, so it's super simple, haha. The two of us ordered three dishes.

- Garlic scape fried rice ₩11,000
- Stir-fried water spinach ₩9,000
- Beef noodle soup ₩15,000

Beyond that there's a wide range of dishes to choose from, from rice bowls to full dishes — eggplant rice bowl, ma-jang noodles, mala fried rice, pepper beef rice, fried eggplant, yurinchi, braised pork belly, and more. So much fun deciding!

Fittingly for a Chinese restaurant, they also serve Tsingtao draft beer, which felt right on tone, haha.

### Garlic scape fried rice, 11,000 won

> Garlic scape fried rice

First up, the garlic scape fried rice — fried rice without the usual stickiness, mixed with fresh garlic scapes. Rather than clumping together like typical fried rice, the grains stayed loose and separate, which made for a nice texture with each spoonful.

The garlic scapes added crunch here and there against the soft rice, which was another highlight of this dish. The garlic scape flavor didn't overpower things — it blended naturally into the fried rice, so it was easier to eat than expected.

### Stir-fried water spinach, 9,000 won

> Stir-fried water spinach

Second, the stir-fried water spinach (gongsimchae). I've often seen this vegetable at Southeast Asian restaurants, but stir-fried Chinese-style it felt completely different. The stems were crunchy and the leaves soft, so the texture varied even within a single plate. If you're dining with a group, this is a must-add side dish, seriously.

### Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup, 15,000 won

> Beef noodle soup

Last, the beef noodle soup — a Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup with a light broth simmered from beef tenderloin, topped with tender beef shank. It was clearly different from the fried rice, and ordering the two together worked well. Having a soup dish in the mix made the whole meal feel a lot more filling!

The beef shank added a soft, tender bite alongside the noodles, and the broth wasn't overly heavy, so even people who find typical greasy Chinese food a bit much could eat this comfortably.

## Restrooms and the 10% discount at the bar upstairs

The restroom was separate from the dining area, which was convenient.

There's also a 10% discount tie-in with Mulata bar on the floor right above, so if you want to enjoy a nice-atmosphere bar after a filling meal, you can make good use of that. Overall, the dishes weren't overly greasy or heavy — many highlighted the natural texture of the ingredients, making this a place worth a visit when you want Chinese food that's a bit different from the usual.
