Every time mom visits, I agonize over what to have for lunch. Between a mom who loves fish and a sibling who loves meat, picking a restaurant for the three of us is always tricky,, but today, mom won!! Off we went for charcoal-grilled mixed fish.

There's a whole line of parking spaces marked right around the restaurant. We visited around 12:30 on a weekend and there were still quite a few spots left! If not, you'd have to aim for the surrounding alleys,, and even from here the smell of grilled fish was already wafting out ~~ 🐟🐟🐟

## Baby chairs, free supplies and fish pre-grilled in advance

Walking in, you're greeted by a baby chair and freely usable table items! With the baby chair there, families can visit without any worries. The items were the kind of "oh right, I need that!" essentials ~~ all neatly gathered in a drawer.

Across from the table items, flounder, croaker, cutlassfish, and mackerel that had already gone through their first grilling pass were neatly sorted by type.

The restaurant was bigger than I expected, and with customers steadily coming in for weekend lunch, my expectations went up right away!

Each table had water, water cups, and wet wipes already set. A laminated sheet explained a review event — write a review and get steamed egg, order a set for two and get seasoned laver — don't miss it like I almost did 😭 ~~

## The magazine-style menu and the four set meals

Every table had a magazine-shaped menu book. Mom saw it and genuinely thought it was an actual magazine, haha, she was so amused that it was actually the menu. Since the dishes were shown in photos, it really helped with choosing. And it's not just fish — there are side dishes too, so even if you're not into grilled or braised fish, there's still plenty to order!

There was even a cute joke page behind the menu 🤭 my mom is a chicken (year of the rooster) and she wanted grilled fish so badly today, haha..

## Side dishes you refill yourself at the banchan bar

The banchan came out first. The seasoned bean sprouts were nicely mild and tasty, the stir-fried fish cake was moist and good but had a spicy kick at the end 🌶️ (careful if you can't handle spice). The diced radish kimchi was fermented just right, a solid little side. Overall, all the banchan were delicious.

The banchan can be refilled at a self-serve bar. Since we love that crunchy texture, we went back for refills of the diced radish kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts!

## What comes on the mixed grilled fish platter, and how it tastes

It came with 1 grilled flounder, 1 grilled mackerel, 1 grilled croaker, and 4 pieces of grilled cutlassfish! The fillets were sizable, so there was really a lot to eat. Looking at it, there were indeed 4 pieces of cutlassfish, and my cutlassfish-loving mom ate every single one by herself. If mom's happy, we're happy too ☺️.. (later my sibling and I teased her about how she could eat all of it without giving us a single bite, and she said it was because we told her to eat it since we weren't going to, and it was just too delicious to stop ^^,,)

The grilled fish overall came out beautifully golden brown, savory on the outside and moist inside. So much charcoal aroma ~~ The fish itself was clean-tasting and well-seasoned, and dipping it in the sauce provided made it downright dangerous with rice.

### The pork stir-fry we added on

The pork stir-fry also came out bubbling hot, and it was more sweet than spicy — a flavor pretty much everyone would like! (Highly recommend for kids or picky eaters.) After eating the mild grilled fish, this cleanses your palate completely and makes you want to keep eating! It had plenty of vegetables too, all soaked in the sauce, so good.

### Why we chose the soft tofu stew

Of the stew choices, we picked soft tofu stew, and it had that soft tofu, familiar comforting taste. A bite of grilled fish, a bite of soft tofu stew ~~ now I'm curious about the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and kimchi stew too. The rice wasn't plain white rice either, so it felt like an extra healthy meal somehow. You know that feeling 🤭??

## Window seats over Hancheon Bridge and the walking path

Since the restaurant sits right next to Hancheon Bridge, the refreshing view was a nice bonus! Mom was surprised to see a walking path had appeared across the way, and got a little nostalgic remembering when she used to live nearby, so after we finished eating she went for a walk along that path all the way to Hancheon Bridge 😌 It was nice seeing it again after so long ~~ Actually, out of a whole list of grilled fish restaurants, we picked this one because it's in Yongdam near Jeju airport, and mom hates long car rides. Looking back now, it turned out to be even better because this neighborhood is full of our family's memories.

It wasn't just the view outside the window that was nice — the interior had cute decorative touches here and there too.

Before visiting, while looking up reviews, I ended up browsing the owner's YouTube channel and watching some shorts and videos, and realized he's actually the eldest son — so that's why the menu names are what they are, I thought. And funnily enough, his business card also says "Big Son" on it, haha.

## Is Naneun Jigeum worth it for a family lunch?

This was a place with genuinely fresh charcoal-grilled fish! It's a great value spot to try a variety of fish, so if you love grilled fish, there's no reason not to go. Plus, with options like the kids' hamburg steak and pork stir-fry, it's great for bringing along kids or picky eaters who aren't into grilled or braised fish. And I liked that there was just a nice variety to try overall (now I'm curious about the boiled pork set too..). It's also very close to Jeju airport, so it's a good stop before or after a trip — you could walk the Hancheon Bridge path or drive along Yongdam Coastal Road after eating ~~
