## In short

Suragan Tteokbang is a second-generation rice cake shop on Noyeon-ro in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, selling omegi-tteok (mugwort rice cake) alongside pumpkin injeolmi, dutteok, mung bean, potato and pea songpyeon (stuffed half-moon rice cakes), and yaksik. On the last day of a Jeju trip the writer bought omegi-tteok as a gift for her mother and carried it back to Seoul, and the red bean and nut versions had a deep mugwort aroma without much sweetness. Gift packs start at 6,000 won for 5 pieces, which makes Suragan Tteokbang an easy stop for presents.

Hi, it's the foodie fairy 🐷! Right before wrapping up my Jeju trip, I stopped by Suragan Tteokbang, a famous omegi-tteok (mugwort rice cake) shop near Jeju Airport, to buy some for my mom.

![Entrance of Suragan Tteokbang in downtown Jeju near the airport](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-tteok-shop-omegi-nuts/jeju-nohyeong-tteok-shop-omegi-nuts-03-z9wfr-900.webp)

Suragan Tteokbang is 8 minutes by car from Jeju Airport, right in downtown Jeju, near hotels like the Grand Hyatt and the duty-free shops.

## More than omegi-tteok: songpyeon, dutteok and pumpkin injeolmi

Suragan Tteokbang doesn't just sell omegi-tteok — it's a full rice cake shop with all kinds of tteok. When I visited, plenty of neighborhood locals were dropping in to buy everyday rice cakes too.

They had the currently-trendy pumpkin injeolmi (glutinous rice cake), plus castella injeolmi and dutteok (layered sweet rice cake), which I love.

There's also songpyeon (half-moon rice cake) in mung bean, potato, and pea versions. At my neighborhood rice cake shop, songpyeon fillings are basically either sesame or sesame — but Suragan Tteokbang's songpyeon is on a whole different level. I heard the shop is run by the second generation of the same family.

There was also yaksik (sweet rice), and individually wrapped injeolmi and chapssaltteok that make perfect grab-and-go snacks. But best of all, the range of omegi-tteok flavors was insane ✨

## Omegi-tteok flavors and gift pack prices

- Flavors: red bean, nuts, soybean powder, black sesame, barley, tangerine omegi-tteok
- Prices (gift pack): 5 pieces ₩6,000 / 10 pieces ₩11,000 / 20 pieces ₩22,000
- 30 pieces ₩30,000 / 50 pieces ₩50,000

Even small quantities can be gift-wrapped, and the packaging is their own custom design — so nicely made, with a handle, that it was easy to carry back to Seoul and made a great gift.

### How to store omegi-tteok at home

They recommended eating omegi-tteok the same day or freezing it right away, and when eating from frozen, letting it sit at room temperature for about an hour to thaw naturally. (Since there are no additives or preservatives, they say you need to freeze it immediately.)

The moment I got back from Jeju, my mom said she loved having so many flavors to try, ate one piece after another, and ended up eating what seemed like 10 pieces in one sitting haha.

## Red bean omegi-tteok: how it tastes

The red bean omegi-tteok is made with mugwort dried by Jeju's sea breeze, filled with sweet red bean paste inside and coated with whole red beans on the outside — and honestly, just the mugwort rice cake itself, from the texture to the aroma, is amazing ✨ It's packed with red beans but wasn't too sweet, which I loved even more. As the true bestseller of omegi-tteok, the mugwort and red bean paired so well together and it was seriously delicious.

## Nut omegi-tteok: how it tastes

As a nut lover, I was also obsessed with the nut omegi-tteok — same mugwort rice cake with red bean paste inside, but topped with a mix of peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other nuts on top. It was just sweet enough and incredibly nutty and savory 💗

I've recently been into mugwort chapssaltteok (glutinous rice cake) and went to several famous shops in Seoul and Incheon looking for a good one, but this omegi-tteok genuinely wasn't too sweet — the red bean and mugwort blended so well!! It was even better than chapssaltteok, and being individually wrapped was a huge plus too.

## Soybean powder, black sesame and tangerine omegi-tteok, reviewed by my mother

As for the soybean powder, black sesame, and tangerine omegi-tteok, my mom liked them so much she ate them all by herself while I was out, so I didn't get to take detailed photos 😭 She said tangerine rice cake itself is unusual, but the red bean and tangerine paired well and it tasted sweet and tangy through and through. The black sesame one, she said, has red bean inside a sweet pumpkin rice cake topped with black sesame powder, giving it a sweet yet nutty flavor.

My mom isn't normally someone who loves omegi-tteok that much, but she said having so many flavors here made it fun to eat, and most of all it was delicious — so she ended up finishing every single one on her own haha. I bought it for her to enjoy, and seeing her enjoy it so much made it all worth it. I found out they also ship through their Smart Store, so I think I'll order more for her.
