## In short

## An early-evening jokbal dinner at Jeon Cheol-woo Intersection in Yongbong-dong

A great spot at Jeon Cheol-woo Intersection in Yongbong-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju! Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch (깐깐한족발 용봉점), famous for its jokbal (braised pig’s trotters), was where I went for an early dinner last weekend.

For reference, Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is open from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM. There is no separate parking lot at Kkankkanhan Jokbal in Yongbong-dong, but since I went early, I was able to park on a side street.

## Spice levels and charcoal-grilled jokbal

Kkankkanhan Jokbal in Yongbong-dong is also known for spicy jokbal, and when I visited again after a while, I saw that new, upgraded Level 2 and Level 3 spice options had been added~ Complete with a chilling warning not to order them out of curiosity, haha. I’m terrible with spicy food, so even Level 1 was hot for me,.🥲 I usually love ordering half-and-half jokbal, but after seeing that, I oddly wasn’t craving anything spicy that day lol.

So I simply ordered the medium charcoal-grilled jokbal (₩42,000).

For sides, people often order flying fish roe rice balls or bibim makguksu (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles), but the menu said I could get flying fish roe rice balls by leaving a receipt review?? So after writing a receipt review, I chose the flying fish roe rice balls and made my side order extra worthwhile haha. Besides the rice balls, you can choose charcoal-grilled/spicy tail (200 g) or a three-piece mini jokbal set to try another kind of jokbal, so do join the receipt review at Kkankkanhan Jokbal in Yongbong-dong:)

## Salad and side dishes before the jokbal

First came a cabbage salad to whet the appetite after ordering. The black sesame dressing was nutty and refreshing, the kind of flavor that kept me reaching back for more. This cabbage salad is also tasty piled onto spicy jokbal lol. It helps tone down the heat too, so if your spicy jokbal is too hot, try having it with the salad haha.

The side dishes were wrap vegetables, pickled radish slices, dried shredded radish, raw garlic, plus ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili vinegar sauce), and salted shrimp for dipping the jokbal. I liked that Kkankkanhan Jokbal brought only the essentials, neatly.

## A full spread with steamed egg and fish cake soup

Next came the fish cake soup, steamed egg, and the flying fish roe rice balls I received for the receipt review. I ordered just one medium charcoal-grilled jokbal at Kkankkanhan Jokbal in Yongbong-dong, and before long the table was packed with food.

The steamed egg, also sold as a side menu, comes out freshly bubbling hot, so it was incredibly soft and delicious.

Hot, fluffy, and delicious steamed egg. It was seasoned just right too, so I enjoyed it so much:)

The fish cake soup came with one fish cake skewer per person. The broth had a pleasantly spicy, refreshing kick, making it nice to sip now and then while eating jokbal.

The springy, curly fish cakes puffed up from boiling away were also perfect for a tasty bite midway through the jokbal👍🏻 They were so good that I even started thinking about ordering the fish cake soup sold as a side lol. Kkankkanhan Jokbal would be a nice drinking spot in Yongbong-dong too.

## Charcoal-grilled jokbal with a subtle smoky aroma

Here is Kkankkanhan Jokbal’s medium charcoal-grilled jokbal. Just look at that tender-looking skin and meat! The delicious smell of the jokbal was so nice too~~

Kkankkanhan Jokbal’s charcoal-grilled jokbal was a medium size, but there was plenty for two people and lots of meat, so it looked seriously appetizing.

I set out the flying fish roe rice balls I had made while waiting and started on the jokbal! There was such a generous amount of rice balls too lol. Even though they were from the receipt review, they certainly didn’t skimp.

Wrapping a springy, chewy piece of Kkankkanhan Jokbal’s charcoal-grilled jokbal with fragrant perilla leaf and tangy pickled radish was just the best~~ㅠㅠㅠ Maybe because it had been a while, but it seemed especially tender and delicious!

Kkankkanhan Jokbal has always been delicious without any off smell whenever I’ve gone. This day was the same: no off smell, none of that overly strong jokbal aroma, just wonderfully tasty jokbal with a subtle charcoal fragrance. I noticed lots of delivery orders going out while I ate, too. Jokbal is such a great family dinner choice on a weekend evening~ I recommend Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch, a delivery favorite in Yongbong-dong and a great spot near Jeon Cheol-woo Intersection🫶🏻
