## What kind of place is Yuil Jangeo in Donggok, Gwangsan-gu?

I went with my family for a hearty weekend lunch at Yuil Jangeo, near Pyeongdong-dong Donggok in Gwangsan-gu. It's a self-grill eel (jangeo) restaurant run directly by an eel farm, and they say they can offer the lowest prices nationwide for freshwater eel by cutting labor costs and middlemen. If you're looking for an eel restaurant in Gwangsan-gu, I really wanted to recommend this place, so here's my review haha *_*

The building's yellow exterior makes it easy to spot, and there's plenty of parking space right in front, so I didn't have to worry about that at all. There are red parasols and tables outside too, which would be nice to sit at on a good-weather day, and once I opened the door, the floor-to-ceiling glass made the inside bright and full of natural light.

## How ordering works at Yuil Jangeo, step by step

At Yuil Jangeo, you pick and pay for your eel directly at the fish counter, and then grill the pre-seared eel yourself at your table. Right at the entrance there's a banner explaining the process step by step, which I thought was a nice touch — even first-timers wouldn't get confused.

- Step 1: Choose your eel at the seafood counter and pay
- Step 2: Staff will pre-sear the eel you paid for and bring it to your table
- Step 3: Grill it yourself from there — the table setting fee and any extra menu items are paid on your way out 😊

The interior mixes dark-toned walls with bright lighting for a sleek atmosphere, and the seating is mostly spacious 4-person tables, so it never felt cramped. There's an aging fridge exposed right in the dining area, which really gave the impression that they age and manage the eel in-house. They also have separate rooms, so it looked like a comfortable option for gatherings or group visits.

At Yuil Jangeo's seafood (eel) counter, live and prepped eel were both priced at ₩29,000 per kg, or ₩4,830 per 100g for boneless, and if you take it home, they even give a 10% discount on prepped eel and 5% on pre-seared eel. There's a bit of fun in picking your own eel right at the counter, and the pricing is completely transparent, so I could choose with confidence.

There was a sign at the self-serve counter noting that only domestic freshwater eel is sold, and the table setting fee is ₩4,000 per adult and ₩2,000 per elementary-school child, which comes with charcoal and side dishes.

### Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Yuil Jangeo

The side dishes were seasoned bean sprouts, green onion kimchi, mushrooms, napa cabbage kimchi, and diced radish kimchi. They came out clean and weren't too salty, so it wasn't overwhelming, and lettuce and perilla leaves were set up for unlimited self-serve too. There was also a separate salad, and the dressing did a great job cutting through the richness :)

The eel soup came out first — a spicy broth like kimchi jjigae, loaded with eel meat and chives, and it hit the spot instantly. One spoonful and the rich, savory flavor was clearly a step above what I make at home.

The main dish, seasoned grilled eel, was crispy outside and moist inside — exactly that signature eel texture, and it was a real feast for the eyes haha. The glossy, glistening look already got my mouth watering, and one bite in, the chewy texture and sweet-salty sauce made it hard to stop reaching for more. It was seasoned just right, so it tasted great even wrapped in lettuce without any ssamjang (dipping sauce).

## Menu prices and room reservation rules

Checking the menu board, the eel-packed eel soup alone was priced at ₩9,900, and the lunch special eel set was ₩15,000 — considering it includes seasoned grilled eel, eel soup, and side dishes, I felt the satisfaction-per-won was really high.

Reservations are only available for rooms, starting at 6 or more people on weekdays and 20 or more on weekends, so if you're planning a group gathering, I'd recommend confirming a reservation before you visit.

The meal turned out far more thoughtfully prepared than I expected, and I think the biggest draw is being able to eat this quality of eel at farm-direct prices.
