## In short

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Haeundae, Busan. The visit included egg-yolk pork jjajangmyeon, spicy monkfish, and a 12,000-won smoky beef jjamppong with especially rich broth. Verdict: a memorable choice for both the setting and the jjamppong.

## For an atmospheric Chinese restaurant in Haeundae

I visited while looking for an atmospheric Chinese restaurant in Haeundae. The space was so lovely that I went in with slightly lowered expectations for the food. But after trying the beef brisket jjamppong, my mind completely changed. It was easily one of the best jjamppong dishes I have had.

## An atmospheric Chinese restaurant found in Dalmaji

I found it while looking for a Chinese restaurant near Haeundae. It is in the Dalmaji area, so I thought it would be a place where I could enjoy the atmosphere along with a meal.

Even the entrance had a great mood.

Inside, subdued lighting and European-style furniture came together for an atmospheric feel.

It almost felt like I was looking around a refined interior rather than a Chinese restaurant.

I thought it was a lovely space for a date or a meal with a little atmosphere.

The seating did not feel cramped, and the whole place was comfortable. The seat I had planned to use was cold, so the staff kindly showed me to another one; that thoughtful service stayed with me too.

They also had children's tableware, so it looked like a fine place to visit with kids.

## From egg-yolk ganjjajang to beef brisket jjamppong

The basic table setting comes with jasmine tea, zhacai (pickled mustard stem), and danmuji (pickled yellow radish).

### Egg-yolk pork ganjjajang

I started with the egg-yolk pork ganjjajang (stir-fried black bean noodles).

With the soft-cooked egg yolk, it was much smoother and nuttier than typical ganjjajang. The onions in the sauce still had a crisp bite. The noodles were a little thicker than regular Korean-Chinese jjajangmyeon noodles, but thinner than udon noodles.

It seemed like a menu item that would suit anyone who enjoys smooth, nutty black bean sauce.

### Spicy-sweet monkfish with smoky flavor

The spicy monkfish was boneless, so it was easy to eat. The sauce had a smoky flavor and was spicy with a slight sweetness.

The spice and smokiness worked so well together that I kept reaching for it. Since I am not very good with spicy food, I alternated between the ganjjajang and monkfish.

If you enjoy spicy food, it would be nice to eat it with the chilies served alongside.

### The beef brisket jjamppong I remember most

And the dish that stayed with me most was the beef brisket jjamppong. Honestly, because the restaurant looked so good, I had thought the food might fall a little short of expectations.

But as soon as I tried the jjamppong, I knew that thought was wrong. The beef brisket was gently cooked with smoky flavor, making it great with the noodles.

The beef's savory richness remained in the broth too, so it tasted remarkably deep. It was easily one of the best jjamppong dishes I have had.

At the end, I added a bowl of rice and finished by mixing it into the remaining black bean sauce and jjamppong broth. Alternating between the jjajang and jjamppong, then having rice too, made for a very satisfying finish. I enjoyed it so much that I even said I wished there were a Bueokgan Chinese in Gwangju.
