Today I'm bringing back a review of something delicious I ate in Gwangalli after a long while :) Maybe because I'm 37 weeks pregnant these days, but I find myself checking the state of food way more carefully than usual whenever I go out to eat. Especially with menus where freshness really matters, like sashimi or salmon, I can't help but be extra cautious🥹 So even before visiting this time, I wondered if the salmon would be okay — but in the end, it turned out great because the salmon was so plump and fresh!

When you're wandering around Gwangalli looking for somewhere to eat, a lot of places turn out to have surprisingly limited menus. Here, true to its name Salmon Brothers, there's a wide range of salmon dishes and you can also order Western dishes like pasta alongside them, which I liked.

Once you go up to the 2nd floor at Salmon Brothers, the atmosphere is better than I expected. It's overall clean but has a slightly wine-bar-like feel, so I think the mood would come alive even more in the evening✨

The lighting isn't too bright, more on the soft side, so it's good for a date or chatting with friends over a meal. And there's a good variety of drinks to go with the food, like wine, highballs, and whiskey — so on a day when just eating feels like not quite enough, you could order a nice dish and have a drink too🍷 As soon as I sat down I started looking through the menu haha, and there were more salmon dishes than I expected, so it took a while to decide what to order.

## What we ordered at Salmon Brothers and what it cost

The menu items I picked were

We also ordered drinks together. Since there were two of us sharing everything, it was really nice.

## How thick is the giant salmon sushi?

The first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the salmon sushi🍣 But seriously, the salmon is so thick. You might not fully feel it from photos, but seeing it in person, the pieces were big and had real thickness, so my expectations shot up right from the start haha. Since I'm 37 weeks pregnant these days, I've become super sensitive to freshness even with a single bite of food, and the salmon I had this time felt clean and fresh with no fishy taste at all, which I appreciated. You could really feel the soft, moist texture unique to salmon, and because it was cut thick, one piece was enough to really taste the salmon properly! I think people who love salmon will really like this kind of thickness haha.

The name 'giant salmon sushi' wasn't there for nothing. Each piece was quite large, so it felt like your mouth was filled with salmon hahaha. The salmon had way more presence than the rice, which made it a very satisfying dish for someone like me who loves salmon. When salmon is cut too thin, a few bites can feel underwhelming, but here it's thick enough that even a few pieces gave that solid 'ah, I just had salmon!' feeling🍣

### Giant salmon sushi vs raw salmon tataki sushi

The raw salmon tataki sushi we ordered together was also delicious. The outside had a lightly seared feel while the inside kept that soft texture unique to salmon, so it had a different charm from plain raw salmon sushi. Rather than just eating one type of salmon dish, ordering different styles like this meant I never got tired of it until the end. If you love salmon, I think it'd be fun to order the giant salmon sushi and the tataki sushi together and compare them haha.

## Does aglio olio work alongside salmon sushi?

Here's a part I personally liked — this isn't a place that only has salmon. If you're with someone who doesn't like salmon, or if just sushi feels a bit lacking, you can order pasta or other dishes alongside it. We had salmon first and then had the aglio olio pasta in the middle, and honestly this combination turned out better than expected haha.

Since the aglio olio is oil-based, it didn't feel heavy eating it alongside the salmon dishes. With the garlic aroma coming through gently and a clean savory flavor, we ended up alternating — a bite of salmon, a bite of pasta, then back to salmon hahaha. The combination worked really well. Eating just salmon the whole time can feel a bit rich after a while, but the pasta switched things up in between, so I was glad we ordered both.

There was also a subtly cute detail haha — the ice in the glass wasn't just plain ice, it came in a cute shape, which was kind of a nice point when taking photos🧸 Little touches like this are always a mood-lifter. I was already taking photos of the food, but with the glass being cute too, I ended up taking one more shot haha.

## Eating raw salmon at 37 weeks pregnant: how it felt

Visiting as a 37-weeks-pregnant person this time, I honestly paid more attention to the food than usual. Especially with something like salmon where freshness matters so much, I thought I'd be worried the whole meal if the condition wasn't right — but when I actually ate it, the salmon was thick yet soft, clean with no fishy taste, and personally very satisfying. Mostly I just kept saying 'the salmon is seriously so plump haha' the whole time😂 As someone who loves salmon, there's definitely a real enjoyment in eating salmon with this kind of thickness.
