Today I had brunch in Gwangalli.. and then basically went straight to lunch. This is my honest review of Gwangan-mok Gwangan Branch, the hot spot I once waited in line for — this time I finally got to try the lunch set I missed last time!!

So let's get into it — the food and vibe at Gwangan-mok Gwangan Branch were both perfect🥓

Gwangan-mok Gwangan Branch subsidizes parking at ₩1,000 per hour if you use Gwangan Signal Parking Tower. You can reserve via Catch Table remote waitlist or Naver Reservations.

This is the outside of the restaurant, with a Catch Table waitlist kiosk right out front. It's a must-wait kind of place.. I remember visiting for dinner last time, putting my name on the Catch Table waitlist, and wandering around the neighborhood while I waited.

I'm not sure if the lunch set existed last time I came, but from 12:00 to 15:00 the lunch set comes with free bibimbap and 'mom's hand' doenjang stew (soybean paste stew)!! I was going to order them separately, but getting them included in the set felt like such a deal haha.

This huge grill you see at the entrance is where they pre-grill the meat first, and apparently it's a traditional Argentine-style 'asado grill'!! I asked how they grill the meat, and instead of blasting it with intense heat, they use gentle charcoal smoke to infuse it deeply — so you get that campfire smoky flavor right in the restaurant. (Might be TMI, but for anyone curious..)

We ordered 'Only Gwangalli' + butter-grilled vegetables (260g pork neck + 130g special pork belly + 100g whole pork jowl) for ₩49,000 (limited to 5 sets a day). We did the weekday lunch opening run just for this, so of course we had to try the limited menu.. And the best part is, thanks to the lunch menu I mentioned, the bibimbap and doenjang stew come free!!!

The side dishes come out first, and the salt is apparently made from Gijang anchovies — not salty at all, just full of umami, so I kept dipping my chopsticks straight into it lol.

The meat finally arrived after its first pre-grilling. Feast with your eyes first~~ then they grill it a bit more at the table and tell you what to dip it in.

First bite: pork neck with anchovy salt. They said the pork neck was grilled slightly rare, and biting into it, the juices were absolutely fantastic ㅠㅠ I'm more of a pork-neck person than pork-belly person.. and paired with the anchovy salt, that's all that needs to be said!!

Second bite: Gwangan-mok's own signature 'chimichurri sauce'!! Made with perilla leaves and angelica root to suit Korean tastes, this sauce is seriously magic... It cuts right through the richness of the meat, and the subtle fragrance of the angelica root combined with the fresh perilla leaf blends beautifully with the meat — once you start dipping, you can't stop!!! (I dipped into this one the most lol)

Third bite: meat wrapped in a basil leaf with the chimichurri sauce — women love basil, right..(that's me). The moment it hits your mouth, the fragrant, fresh scent of basil wafts up, and the sharp, clean umami of the chimichurri blends perfectly with the meat's juices..

## Lunch set bibimbap, doenjang stew and cold dongchimi noodles

While we were happily eating the meat with all sorts of side-dish combos, the lunch set arrived!! The 'mom's hand' doenjang stew had a savory soybean paste base with a hint of cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste), so rich I kept spooning up the broth!! There was meat in it too. The wild greens bibimbap wasn't seasoned strongly at all — just mild and nutty — a perfect match with the stew!! Honestly, ordering a separate meal item when you're already eating BBQ can add up, so getting free bibimbap and stew like this is such great value..

Even though I was already stuffed, I couldn't skip the cold dongchimi noodles.. so that was my last order!! The broth, floating with tiny ice flakes, was so refreshingly sweet-and-tangy and cold that it cleaned my palate completely and gave the meal a perfect finish!! So happy~~~~

## Final verdict: would I go back to Gwangan-mok?

Thanks to the pre-grilling, the meat's juicy flavor was incredible, and having it grilled with such care from start to finish made the whole meal so easy to enjoy.. The lunch set especially was a total win!! Early risers, this lunch set is for you!! The combo of savory doenjang stew and mild wild greens bibimbap is a certified great value too.

And Gwangan-mok's signature chimichurri sauce — anyone who's tried it knows😂 how perfectly it pairs with the meat. Gwangan-mok is the place that'll come to mind whenever I think 'Gwangalli BBQ'!! Next time I want to visit in the evening and enjoy the nighttime sea view too. Add this to your Gwangalli date course and enjoy some great meat♥️
