For a satisfying, budget-friendly meal, gukbap (Korean soup with rice) is hard to beat. I found a place near Gyeongseong University where the gukbap is delicious, the rice and noodles are unlimited, and you even get a free glass of Jipyeong Saengmakgeolli. Here's my review of Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch — I left very satisfied! :)

This Gyeongseong University-area gukbap restaurant has a huge advantage in its long operating hours — you can drop by anytime. It's great for a late breakfast, of course fine for lunch and dinner too, and since there's no break time it's also good for those in-between hours. Since it's open until the early morning, it's perfect for a hangover-curing meal after drinks too. Being near Gyeongseong University, there were plenty of students, but surprisingly also many families.

Since it's in the Gyeongseong University area, there's no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant, but the location is easily accessible by public transit. It's a 4-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gyeongseong University·Pukyong National University Station, and a 3-minute walk from the bus stop of the same name, so it's convenient to drop by from either the subway or the bus.

This Gyeongseong University restaurant looks nice and clean. The seating is mostly 4-tops, but some are arranged so they can be pushed together, which looks good for group visits. Overall it felt very tidy!

The weather's gotten a bit cooler these days, but eating hot gukbap always makes you sweat, right? Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch had the AC on full blast inside, so I ate comfortably without breaking a sweat, haha. Major points for the power AC!

There's a tablet at every table, so I could order comfortably right from my seat — great feature at this Gyeongseong University restaurant!

The gukbap menu includes pork soup, blood sausage soup, intestine soup, mixed soup, pork jowl soup, and a boiled pork set. Except for the boiled pork set, you can upgrade to a large size for an extra ₩1,500. Besides the soups, there are also side dishes to go with drinks like boiled pork or hot pot, and small sides like dumplings, sample sundae (blood sausage), and sample boiled pork, so keep that in mind.

Soju, beer, and makgeolli were also a bit cheaper than at other places, perfect for a drink alongside your meal! I confidently ordered a large pork jowl soup, a blood sausage soup, and a cola. :>

They brought out the basic side dishes along with the cola I ordered. The basic sides were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, and the essentials for gukbap — chives, salted shrimp, and chili + garlic + onion + ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). If you run out, you can grab more from the self-serve bar yourself. There's also noodles at the self-serve bar, and a rice cooker right next to it where you can get extra rice, haha. With unlimited rice and noodle refills, the meal felt even more generous.

And then the blood sausage soup and large pork jowl soup arrived! Served in stone pots, bubbling away with milky broth — they looked so delicious, haha!

## How does the large hangjeong gukbap (pork jowl soup) taste?

Let me introduce the pork jowl soup first. I ordered it large, and the amount of pork jowl was seriously huge — such a generous portion!! You can add dadaegi (chili paste), pepper, or salted shrimp to taste, but the soup itself was already well-seasoned, so you don't really need to add anything extra. I just added some chives and dug in, haha.

The deep, savory flavor of the rich pork bone broth came through fully, alongside the pork jowl's characteristic chewy-yet-tender texture — it was the best combination. It was right up my partner's alley, who loves the fattier cuts — the savory flavor was outstanding. The soup's seasoning was just right on its own, but adding a bit more salted shrimp to taste made it nicely salty and even better. There was so much pork jowl in it that it was very filling.

Here's the blood sausage soup I ordered. It has both meat and sundae in it, so you get an even more varied texture. The plump sundae, after cooling slightly, was great with a bit of salted shrimp on top — chewy, with no gamy smell at all, really delicious.

Gukbap just tastes right with kimchi on top! I especially loved the kkakdugi here. The crunchy texture and tangy flavor went so well with the soup — I really enjoyed every bite.
