## In short

MUSEO is a fusion Korean course dining restaurant in a basement near Gangnam's Bangbang intersection in Seocho, Seoul. Meeting an old friend at MUSEO's bar table, one guest chose non-alcoholic wine and the other red wine to pair with a chef's choice course running from green onion tart to dongchimi mulhoe (chilled radish-water raw fish soup), smoked Spanish mackerel, chicken leg, and makgeolli ice cream. At low ₩100,000s per person, MUSEO is an easy recommendation for a Gangnam date over a stylish Korean course meal.

I wanted to spend quality time with a friend I hadn't seen in a while, so I went looking for a nice, clean Korean dining spot with good atmosphere and found MUSEO in Gangnam. I searched for ages to find somewhere good to take her, and it turned out to be such a satisfying Gangnam course-dining date that I wanted to write it up.

## Where is MUSEO and how do you get there?

MUSEO is near Gangnam's Bangbang intersection (B1, 20 Gangnam-daero 47-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul). There are plenty of bus stops nearby so it was easy to get to, and apparently you get 1 hour of parking support if you use a nearby paid parking lot~

### What MUSEO looks like from the street

![Staircase and lighting leading down to MUSEO's basement entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-02-x94hk-900.webp)

MUSEO is underground, so you head down a flight of stairs from the entrance. Even the stairway down had such pretty lighting and atmosphere. My expectations shot way up!

## MUSEO's interior, bar-table seating, and how to book

Inside MUSEO there's a nice range of seating, from a bar table great for sitting alone or as a pair, to table seats good for bigger groups.

There are two types of group tables — Table No.1 and Table No.2 — that seat 4 to 7 people, and you can request them when you book. Reservations work through both Catch Table and Naver Reservations. I found the place searching on Naver, so I booked and visited through Naver Reservations.

We were seated at the bar table, and there were flowers placed in front of us — fake, but they matched the space so well I couldn't help wanting to take photos haha.

## MUSEO's course menu and prices: one glass of alcohol per person

MUSEO's course is built as a chef's-choice menu, and we were given a separate drinks menu. Dinner requires one glass per person, so we picked a non-alcoholic wine and a red wine from the glass-wine list. Besides wine, they also had various spirits, draft beer, and makgeolli (rice wine) on offer. Since it's fusion Korean dining, I'd recommend ordering whichever type of drink you prefer! A tasting option was also available, and with so many kinds on offer, anyone who loves drinks might want to give it a try.

Here's what the tasting lineup looked like on the day I visited.

### The basic table setting at MUSEO

This is how the table was set up to start, and they brought a wet wipe separately for hand sanitizing before the meal. They also poured cold water right away.

### Non-alcoholic wine and red wine pairings at MUSEO

Since drinks are required at dinner, we got to enjoy wine alongside the course too. I went non-alcoholic, and my friend picked a red wine.

Since the course had a lot of seafood-based dishes, it really went well with white wine. My friend went with red, so it was fun to try two different pairings side by side! A 5-glass tasting is also available separately, so if you want to match the perfect wine to each course dish, that option is worth considering.

## MUSEO's Korean course, dish by dish

![Green onion tart topped with Sinan scallions](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-10-e4otz-702.webp)

Green onion tart topped with Sinan scallions. The tart shell was really crisp and the crunch of the scallions paired well. The scallion-and-cheese combo is honestly a sure thing and great for whetting the appetite.

![Steamed egg topped with Pohang spinach and fried anchovies](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-11-i9su6-900.webp)

Steamed egg. Topped with Pohang spinach, dashi-anchovy sauce, and fried anchovies — the egg scooped up soft and smooth, and the sweetness of the spinach against the crunchy fried anchovies worked well together.

![Dongchimi mulhoe with mustard jelly](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-12-odrh6-900.webp)

Dongchimi (radish water kimchi) mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). This was the first time I'd ever had a white version of mulhoe, so it was such a novelty. Being dongchimi-based made it doubly refreshing, and what I loved especially was the mustard jelly! The mustard jelly amplified that cool, refreshing flavor even more, and brought out the sweetness of the sea cucumber and shrimp too.

![Hoengseong hanwoo tteokgalbi skewered on a stick](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-13-16bj3-900.webp)

Hoengseong hanwoo (Korean beef) tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty). Smoked over rice straw, so it had great aroma, and dipping it in the soybean-paste-and-pine-nut sauce worked perfectly. The juicy tteokgalbi skewered on a wooden stick — honestly, no words needed.

Taking a bite of the meat and then dipping the vegetables underneath in the sauce and eating them together made a great combo. This was personally the dish that paired best with red wine.

![Plate of brioche and kelp soy sauce butter](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-14-ln2uo-900.webp)

Wando kelp. Brioche with kelp soy sauce butter. The moist, soft brioche bread paired with butter made from kelp soy sauce. Kelp in butter — honestly I wasn't expecting much, but the subtle, spreading flavor was a highlight!

![Kelp soy sauce butter served in a shell](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-15-my7f3-900.webp)

The butter served in a shiny shell looked even prettier, so I took a ton of photos...

![Rice-straw smoked Goheung Spanish mackerel with baek-kimchi beurre blanc](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-16-3lfgl-900.webp)

Goheung Spanish mackerel. Rice-straw smoked mackerel, baek-kimchi beurre blanc, kimchi powder. They said this dish was inspired by mackerel kimchi stew.

![Close-up of the mackerel dish topped with pistachio](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-17-19hux-900.webp)

I ate it wondering how anyone even came up with this dish. The pistachios sprinkled on top added richness to the texture here and there, and mashing the mackerel and dipping it generously in the baek-kimchi beurre blanc underneath made it unbelievably smooth...

![Gangneung potato and truffle cream sauce course dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-18-5729c-900.webp)

Gangneung potato, truffle. A dish served with shredded potato ice cream and truffle cream sauce.

![Fried shredded potato served on an ice cream stick](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-19-wcmfa-900.webp)

The menu description called it 'shredded potato ice cream,' so I was wondering why on earth there'd be three ice creams on this menu, but it turned out to be fried shredded potato served on an ice cream stick haha. Isn't that just too cute?

![Truffle cream sauce paired with the shredded fried potato](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-20-1yrue-900.webp)

This truffle sauce is the real trick here — even my friend, who isn't that into truffle, said it suited her taste and kept dipping generously. The shredded potato was cut super thin, so the texture was distinctive, and it paired surprisingly well with the truffle cream — such a cute dish!

![Bongpyeong buckwheat noodles topped with sea urchin roe](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-21-1gbdt-900.webp)

Buckwheat noodles from Bongpyeong, made with gopchang gim (a fine, whole-leaf seaweed) and buckwheat. Topped with sea urchin roe for extra richness, with the gopchang gim making the seaweed flavor even stronger in these noodles.

![Close-up of the buckwheat noodles with fried buckwheat mixed in](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-22-p1b9l-900.webp)

There was also fried buckwheat mixed in, which was crispy and popped here and there as I chewed — I'd never had buckwheat noodles like this before, so it was a fun bite.

Pear sorbet. A palate-cleansing sorbet made with pear and lemon, served to reset the palate before the main dish arrived. Made from pear, so it was refreshing, with a lemon flavor that wasn't too sour!

![Grilled chicken leg served with mung bean porridge](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-23-1y2yf-1200.webp)

Chicken leg. A long-cooked chicken drumstick roasted in pork fat, served with pickled green onion, mung bean porridge, and a pepper sauce.

![Chicken leg main dish served with pickled green onion](https://img.superchart.com/images/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat/museo-gangnam-korean-course-bar-seat-24-wpmhf-900.webp)

The sauce was soy-sauce-and-pepper based, teriyaki-ish, so it was an easy flavor for anyone to enjoy, and the pickled green onion served alongside had extra depth from being lightly grilled. The meat was tender, and the seasoning was just right when eaten together with the mung bean porridge.

Makgeolli. Makgeolli ice cream, soy sauce crumble, chamoe melon. Such a curious combination! The flavor had that toasty makgeolli character — if I had to describe it simply, kind of like a walnut cake flavor...? Personally, the soy-sauce crumble was the most surprising part — it looked like granola but was made with a soy sauce base, which was wild to me. The chamoe melon was cut into small pieces too, and eating it with the ice cream gave it an oddly novel texture. As a dessert lover, this was so good haha~

## Is MUSEO worth it for a Gangnam course-dining date?

If you're looking for a great spot for a Gangnam course-dining date, I'd recommend MUSEO in Yangjae. Getting to enjoy a clean, atmospheric Korean course dinner for low ₩100,000s felt like such a lucky find~!
