## In short

Susan Sadang Main Branch is an izakaya near Sadang Station in Dongjak, Seoul, serving seasonal raw shrimp sashimi and aged sashimi. After watching the Seoul World Fireworks Festival, the writer stopped in for a full plate of raw shrimp sashimi, ankimo maki, and whale sake, plus a welcome sake on the house. One plate of shrimp sashimi and one maki roll turned out to be just enough for two.

Hi everyone 🦐 It's that time of year when the big shrimp season is coming around.

Today I'm introducing "Susan," a Sadang bar my partner and I went to for our own little afterparty after watching the 2026 Seoul World Fireworks Festival 🫶🏻

*At the end I'll also tell you about the great viewing spot we found even though we got there right before the show started (shh, keep this between us)*

## I didn't expect much from food near Sadang

Honestly, Sadang is a great meeting spot because of the transit connections, but when people say "let's meet at Sadang," you don't really expect the food to be amazing... right? (Is it just me...👀)

But this place won over even my picky-eater partner.

Lately I'd been seeing mukbang creators eating raw shrimp sashimi and really wanting some myself — and then I find out this place sells fresh raw shrimp sashimi 🥹 Instant go.

## What we ordered as a couple, and the prices

Raw shrimp sashimi seems to be a seasonal item, and when it's not shrimp season, flounder, salmon, and yukhoe (raw beef) seem to be the main dishes instead. (Though the three signature maki rolls at Susan seem to be year-round.) Since we came specifically for the raw shrimp sashimi—

> Raw shrimp sashimi platter (₩58,000)
> Ankimo maki (₩21,000)
> + Whale sake 🐋 (₩15,000)

—that's what we ordered 🖤 Ankimo is monkfish liver apparently... my food-savvy partner told me that. (I just eat whatever, happily.)

### Welcome sake and whale sake

Such a thoughtful owner...🫶🏻 How did they know we're sake lovers? They gave us a welcome glass of sake.

Then our ordered whale sake arrived too. (This bottle is huge and it's only ₩15,000🫢?) The taste wasn't bad at all! (After finishing the whole bottle we were pleasantly, comfortably tipsy ...🩶)

## The raw shrimp sashimi platter — can you see the shine?

Finally, the raw shrimp...🤤 So much of it too, and somehow the owner picked out only the plumpest, firmest shrimp. Can you see how glossy they are?

Ah... I want to go back. It was genuinely delicious... And then came the monkfish liver ankimo maki 🍘

### Ankimo maki topped with raw shrimp sashimi

Truly. So. Good.

I used to think Sadang bar food was all pretty much the same everywhere. I'll be retracting that opinion.

Put raw shrimp sashimi on top of ankimo maki, dip it in the sauce, and it's game over. (Sorry, I just drooled a little.)

I consider myself pretty objective about taste, and I'm begging you — please try this.

Cheers to my partner who spent the day with me 🍶

The raw shrimp sashimi portion was generous, so adding one maki roll on top made it just the right amount for two.

## The best fireworks viewing spot: in front of Dongjak Sunset Café

And before heading to Susan that day, we went to catch the 2026 Seoul World Fireworks Festival 🎆

Honestly I wasn't planning to go because I figured it'd be way too crowded, but it kept popping up on social media and the FOMO got to me^ㅡ^ (My partner always puts up with my whims and does whatever I want to do — the best.)

So instead of going all in on the main viewing area, I looked for a spot like this:

- Not too crowded
- No long wait
- But still has a good view

And ta-da — we barely researched anything going in, so I didn't expect much, but it was a huge success.

It was right in front of Dongjak Sunset Café! Along the Han River walking path that connects from Dongjak Station.

Even though we arrived right around 8pm, we still got to watch from this great spot in person 🥹🎇

I'd never properly watched the World Fireworks Festival before, and it was so good 🫶🏻 Now that I've seen it once, I'm already thinking about going all out next year ☺️

That wraps up my recommendation for "Susan," the bar to go to if you refuse to compromise on food near Sadang Station, plus a great spot to watch the Seoul World Fireworks Festival.
