Visiting on a Sunday at 8pm, the writer found the place fully packed after 9pm and waiting for a table by 10-11pm, drinking Budweiser and an alcohol-free blue lemon ade while playing drinking games. Came alone, ended up talking with everyone — a second visit to Woo Woo that stayed just as fun as the first.

## Second visit, this time with my sibling

Woo Woo, the solo drinking bar in Hongdae, turned out to have a better vibe than I expected on my first visit. I remembered it being easy to talk to strangers even coming alone, so this time I came back with my sibling. :) If I'd known it would be this much fun I would've come on a Saturday — showing up late to the party on a Sunday, seriously.

## Sunday 8pm visit — what time does it fill up?

I arrived at 8pm, which is neither too early nor too late, and one of the two long tables was already full. People really started filling in from 8:30pm, the place was fully packed after 9pm, and there was even a wait by 10-11pm — so even on a Sunday, it's better to come a bit early rather than too late.

## How do you check in at Woo Woo?

Check-in at Woo Woo, the Hongdae solo drinking bar in Seoul, happens via QR code, where you can select the menu along with your MBTI, reason for coming, and what kind of activities you'd like to do. There are cocktails, whisky and beer, plus non-alcoholic cocktails, so even people who don't drink can come and chat comfortably with others. On top of that, there's a receipt review event that gets you free cheese crackers or a free cocktail — pretty great.

## Sangsu Station access and the best times to avoid a wait

Long time no see, Woo Woo, my Hongdae solo drinking bar in Seoul. It's right near Sangsu Station so the location is great, and the atmosphere and crowd fill in fast — I've been to plenty of solo drinking bars but none quite like this one. Because transit access is so good, I met quite a few people visiting from other areas too. On weekdays and Sundays, 9 to 11pm is peak, and once it's close to the last subway trains, some people head out and seats open up. If you hate waiting, come either super early or after 11pm.

## Budweiser / blue lemon ade

This time I stuck with beer the whole night to avoid a rough morning at work. I've been to a few other solo drinking bars and so many of them don't sell beer at all — looking at you, Jeju Ahop, which absolutely does not serve beer haha. But Woo Woo in Hongdae, Seoul has Budweiser, which I personally liked.

Last time I drank cocktails like long island iced tea and completely died from the hangover the next day, so this time I went with something lighter. Beer just hits me less hard the next day compared to cocktails, so I stuck with Budweiser all night. My sibling isn't much of a drinker, so I ordered them the alcohol-free blue lemon ade.

The basic snack was chicken leg-shaped crackers. Yum, really good.

## Things that help you mingle even if you come alone

There were things like light balance-game cards vs. board games, giving strangers an easy way to laugh and chat and get to know each other, so time passed faster than I expected.

Coming alone doesn't mean staring at your phone the whole time — with staff running things, seat rotation, and drinking games, there's a structure built in for naturally talking to other people. And it's not a vibe where you have to actively strike up conversation from the start either, so you can also just take it easy and read the room. Both I-types and E-types were there together ❤️

### Seat rotation time

This time I also experienced seat rotation. You're not stuck sitting in one seat the whole night — there's a set time when you can switch seats, opening up chances to meet new people beyond whoever was sitting next to you at first. If the first seat feels a bit awkward, or there's someone your type at the next table, you can boldly rotate seats and go for it — that's a fun part of it too. Ah, youth.

I didn't move seats myself, but I naturally chatted with the people around me and ended up playing a drinking game for the first time in ages. Man, it had been so long — since college graduation, honestly. Coming in alone for a quiet drink and somehow ending up playing games and talking with everyone seems to be the charm unique to this Hongdae solo drinking bar.

There was one pretty funny moment during the game — one round was about picking 'the person here most likely to have the most Instagram followers,' and I got picked. What does that even mean, that I'm some kind of hot girl? ㅇㅅㅇ Attention seeker, ha — but honestly I was thrilled.

## Three bottles of Budweiser and the next-day hangover

Seriously, one bottle turned into two, two turned into three. I ended up finishing three bottles of Budweiser that night. Don't think three Budweisers is nothing — this was my third stop of the night, so I'd had 5 beers total that day. I really held onto my sanity and caught the subway home before the last train. We stayed out having fun pretty late, but luckily I barely had a hangover the next day. Still took hangover medicine before bed, just in case. Cheers to all us working folks trying to survive the next day somehow.

Woo Woo felt like a bar where people gather who came to Hongdae alone but don't want to just go straight home, or can't be bothered coordinating schedules with friends but still want to chat and drink casually with others. This was my second visit, and since I met different people and had a different vibe than the first time, coming back wasn't boring at all.

## Who would I recommend Woo Woo to?

I'd recommend Woo Woo to people like these:

- Someone who wants to drink solo but finds drinking truly alone boring
- Someone whose friend went home early after hanging out in Hongdae, but who still wants to keep the night going
- Someone who wants to talk to people of the opposite gender, regardless of the reason
- Someone who wants to meet new people

That's the kind of solo drinking bar Woo Woo in Hongdae, Seoul was. Having now visited twice, I think it's time to officially call it a solo-drinking-bar favorite worth revisiting.
