## In short

Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch is a Western-style hambak (Korean hamburg steak) restaurant on the second floor of the Orange-dong building in Baegot, Siheung, Gyeonggi. Arriving at 11:30 a.m. on a weekday, two of us were seated with no wait and shared the large hambak at 15,500 won with mozzarella cheese added plus a pork loin cutlet at 11,500 won. The moist hambak, mild sauce, crisp cutlet and the school-lunch-style tteokbokki served before the meal made Jeongssi Hambak a Baegot lunch spot worth returning to.

## Why we picked Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch for lunch in Baegot

My sister and I were out in Baegot and looking for lunch when we found Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch! Searching for Baegot lunch spots, I saw the menu ranged from hambak (hamburg steak) to pork cutlet to pasta, which seemed good for two people with different tastes. I was also in the mood for a hearty Western-style (gyeongyangsik) lunch, so we went straight over.

## Is there a wait at weekday lunch? Arriving at 11:30 a.m.

We arrived around 11:30 a.m. on a weekday, a touch before peak lunch hour, so we got seated with no wait at all. But by the time we finished eating, most of the tables had filled up. This is clearly a busy Baegot restaurant at lunchtime, so if you want to eat without a crowd, going a little early seems like a good idea.

## Inside Jeongssi Hambak: the dining room and retro plates

The moment we walked in, the place was bigger and cleaner than I expected, which made a great first impression. Everything was well organized and comfortable, and the tables weren't cramped together. It was easy to sit and chat with my sister while eating slowly, and the owner was friendly too, so even as first-timers we felt at ease.

And personally, what I found so cute was the dishware haha. Instead of the modern tableware you see at most restaurants these days, they use retro dishes that look like something from an old-school Western-style diner. It suited the hambak steak concept so well that I started snapping photos the moment the food arrived.

## What two people should order: large hambak with mozzarella plus a pork loin cutlet

We ordered the large hambak with mozzarella cheese added, plus a pork loin cutlet, and split them both. We were curious about both hambak steak and pork cutlet and couldn't pick just one, so this is exactly when going with two people and ordering one of each pays off! Sharing bites of both dishes meant we got to try everything at once.

## The school-lunch-style tteokbokki served before the meal

Even before the main dishes arrived, the basic side dishes won us over — because tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) came out! Unlike the spicy, punchy tteokbokki you find at street food spots these days, this had a flavor that reminded us of the tteokbokki we used to eat at school lunch.

The moment we saw it, my sister and I both said, "Isn't this exactly like old school lunch tteokbokki?" Having such a familiar side dish show up felt weirdly nostalgic, and our hands kept reaching for it while we waited for the mains.

## Large hambak, 15,500 won: how big is it and how does it taste?

First, the large hambak lived up to its name with a hearty portion. If you usually eat a bit more, ordering the large size should still satisfy you. We also added mozzarella cheese, which I'd recommend if you're a cheese lover! Piling cheese on top of the hambak made it look even more appetizing and added a nutty, savory flavor.

Cutting into the hambak steak, it was thick yet very tender. Hambak can sometimes come out tough or dry if done wrong, but this one had a moist texture that was easy to chew, which I really liked. Piling on the sauce and mozzarella cheese with each thick bite made a great combination. What I especially liked, though, was the sauce.

When hambak sauce is too sweet or too salty, the first few bites are great, but it can get tiring by the end. Jeongssi Hambak's sauce, though, was less punchy than I expected. It had a mild, comfortable flavor, so even with the large portion I kept eating without hesitation — it paired well with rice too, and I never got tired of it by the last bite.

## Pork loin cutlet, 11,500 won: balance of breading and meat

The pork loin cutlet we ordered alongside also exceeded expectations. For one, the breading was so crispy! If the hambak was moist and soft, the cutlet delivered real crunch with the first bite, and switching back and forth between the two was fun.

![Crispy-breaded pork loin cutlet](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongssi-hamback-baegot-weekday-lunch/jeongssi-hamback-baegot-weekday-lunch-19-wlmbb-900.webp)

![Cross-section of the pork loin cutlet showing meat thickness](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongssi-hamback-baegot-weekday-lunch/jeongssi-hamback-baegot-weekday-lunch-20-1h5ys-966.webp)

Pork cutlets can be disappointing when the breading is thick but the meat is thin, but here the balance between meat and breading was solid. My sister, who loves a crispy cutlet, enjoyed it a lot too. We agreed that if we'd only ordered one dish each, we'd definitely have kept wondering about the other one haha.

## Who is Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch good for?

Beyond hambak steak and pork cutlet, there's also pasta and other options, so it seems like a good pick for a group with different tastes. It's fine for a casual lunch with a sibling or friend, a family meal with kids, or a meal during a date in Baegot.

Personally, I liked not just the food but the atmosphere and the little details. Clean interior, a friendly owner, retro dishware, and nostalgic school-lunch tteokbokki! Nothing was flashy, but each small point stuck in my memory, so I left in a good mood. And at the end of the day, a restaurant only gets you back if the main dish is genuinely good. The soft hambak steak, the mild sauce, and the crispy pork cutlet were all satisfying, so I'm saving this as a Baegot restaurant I want to revisit.

If you're looking for a Baegot lunch spot and craving a hearty hambak steak or pork cutlet, I'd recommend Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch. Next time I'll probably order the same large hambak with mozzarella cheese combo again, and I'd like to try another menu item we missed this time and split it too. And next time, I'll head over a little early again, before the lunch rush, to eat without the crowd :)
