## In short

Wolhadong is a gomtang (Korean beef bone soup) restaurant in Insadong, Jongno, Seoul, about 332m from Anguk Station Exit 5. On a weekday visit alone at 2:30pm there was no wait, and the signature Wolha Gomtang (12,000 won) came with a clear, not-greasy broth and generous meat that stayed easy to finish. Even right before the 15:00-17:00 break time nobody felt rushed, so Wolhadong is a comfortable pick for solo dining in Insadong.

## Walking into Wolhadong near Anguk Station alone at 2:30pm

I had some errands in Insadong and looked for a late lunch spot — that's how I found Wolhadong! I ended up getting caught up in things that day and totally missed regular lunch hours, so I showed up around 2:30pm.

It was an awkward time to eat, but thanks to that I got to have a really relaxed meal right in the middle of crowded Insadong. Wolhadong is an Insadong restaurant you can walk to from Anguk Station Exit 5.

I was curious because I'd heard the place recreates Joseon-era cooking methods to serve Korean gomtang (beef bone soup) with almost no lingering meaty smell. The name apparently means warming your heart with a hot bowl of soup in a corner of Seoul lit by moonlight — and it really did suit the mood of the space.

By the time I arrived, the usual lunch rush was over, so there was no wait, and only about two tables of customers were in the restaurant.

Insadong is packed with tourists and pretty chaotic even on weekdays, but walking through the door, the mood suddenly felt calm! Even eating alone, it didn't feel awkward at all.

## Wolhadong's menu and the 12,000-won Wolha Gomtang

The menu is centered on Wolha Gomtang and Hong Gomtang, with side dishes like cold pork slices and vinegared squid salad.

Since it was my first visit, I wanted to start with the most basic dish, so I ordered the signature Wolha Gomtang. It's ₩12,000.

## What does Wolha Gomtang broth taste like?

The first thing I noticed as soon as the food arrived was how neat and tidy it looked. Rather than a flashy gomtang piled with toppings, it felt like a bowl focused purely on the basics.

I tried the broth first, and it was exactly my kind of clean style, so I liked it from the very first spoonful. It leaned much more toward clear and light than rich or oily.

That said, it wasn't bland or flavorless either — it had a light, savory taste that kept me reaching for another spoonful! When I eat gomtang, if the broth is too oily or has a strong meaty smell, I get a bit put off after a few spoonfuls, but with Wolha Gomtang I could eat comfortably all the way to the end.

There was also plenty of meat, and it was soft, so it went well with the broth. You know those days when you crave something gentle on the stomach instead of something spicy or heavy? That day was exactly one of those, and I felt like I'd picked the right menu.

## Is it fine to arrive just before Wolhadong's 15:00 break time?

What stuck with me that day was as much the atmosphere of the meal as the taste itself. Out on the alleys of Insadong there are tourists everywhere and lots to see, so you keep moving around in a rush — but sitting alone inside Wolhadong with a warm bowl of gomtang felt like taking a brief break.

I visited at 2:30pm, right before the 3pm break time, but there was no atmosphere of being rushed at all — I could eat comfortably. Maybe because I avoided the crowded lunch hour, I even felt like I'd been properly taken care of on a solo meal.

## Why Wolhadong works for solo dining in Insadong

It was also great for eating alone. I don't usually have much trouble going to restaurants solo, but there are still places where the atmosphere makes it a little awkward, you know?

Since Wolhadong's menu is centered around gomtang, it feels natural to walk in alone, have a bowl, and head out, and the calm space suits anyone looking for a solo dining spot in Insadong. If you're near Anguk Station or Insadong and want clean, non-spicy Korean food, I'd recommend Wolhadong.

If you prefer a clear, tidy broth over a rich, heavy gomtang, this place will really suit you. I also loved the mood of stepping away from busy Insadong for a relaxed meal. Next time, I want to try the Hong Gomtang too :)
