Today's story is about a lunch I planned ahead with a friend — a reserved visit to Busan-e Tteun Godeungeo Asan Tangjeong Branch.

Both my friend and I usually love mackerel, so choosing grilled fish for lunch was an easy call. Since the place had only recently opened, the facilities were spotless and parking wasn't a hassle either, which made a great first impression.

The sign was easy to spot right from the entrance, and the building's basement parking made parking pretty convenient too. We visited a bit past the lunch rush with a reservation, so we could take our time settling in.

## What the new Asan Tangjeong dining room looks like

Walking in, the space felt bright and tidy overall. The tables weren't cramped together, and the wood-toned furniture paired with warm lighting gave it a stylish, comfortable feel.

Fitting for a newly opened spot, the facilities were clean, which made it easy to enjoy a leisurely lunch with a friend. It also seemed like a solid choice for a family Korean meal or a meal with parents.

## What comes with the good-value set for two

What we ordered was Busan-e Tteun Godeungeo Asan Tangjeong Branch's good-value set for two. If two mackerel lovers show up together, the portions are substantial and satisfying.

![Basic spread from the good-value set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-07-15ixk-966.webp)

Along with the basic side dishes, seaweed soup came out first, followed by lettuce and other accompaniments.

Then came the mackerel we'd been waiting for — a whole, generously sized fish that looked appetizing on its own. Picking apart the golden-grilled flesh, the inside was moist while the outside had a savory, toasty crust.

The seasoning was already well balanced, so it paired nicely with rice without needing much extra sauce. There was also a seasoned version of the mackerel, which had a different flavor from the plain grilled one — good for alternating bites.

## The self-serve side dish bar at this Asan Korean restaurant

What I especially liked was the self-serve side dish bar. Beyond the initial spread, you can go grab as many extra sides as you want.

As the photos show, the variety was pretty wide — bean sprout salad, assorted namul (seasoned vegetable sides), japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), and spicy dishes too.

Eating just mackerel the whole time could get a little heavy, but mixing in namul or spicy sides here and there kept the flavors nicely balanced.

![Egg and other side dish corner at the self-serve bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-14-1kukv-966.webp)

Eggs and several other sides were also on offer, so anyone who loves Korean food will probably end up circling the self-serve bar more than once. Seeing this spread, I understood why people come here looking for good Korean food in Asan.

## Pot rice that makes the lunch more filling

Another thing that paired beautifully with the mackerel was the pot rice. It arrived glossy and warm, and it clearly worked well alongside the grilled fish.

Scooping warm rice straight from the pot and topping it with a piece of mackerel, I kept reaching for more even without other sides. After eating down a good portion of the rice, there was still rice left in the pot to finish off, which made the meal even heartier.

![Glossy, warm pot rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-16-1uij3-966.webp)

![The pot with crispy leftover rice after serving](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-17-kf4kw-966.webp)

The crispy, browned rice at the bottom was nutty and delicious too — I'm the type who always makes sure to eat that part when I visit places serving pot rice. If you're looking for a Tangjeong Station restaurant where you can enjoy grilled fish and pot rice together, this combination felt like a great fit.

## How varied are the side dishes?

With the self-serve bar available, my friend and I each brought back our favorite sides and shared bites. There was jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) you could wrap in lettuce, spicy seasoned dishes, japchae, and various namul — plenty of fun in picking and choosing.

Piling a little bit of everything onto one plate made it feel like a hearty home-cooked spread. The mackerel and pot rice were great as the main dish, but being able to freely help yourself to side dishes was a pretty big plus too.

## Finishing with omija tea and coffee

After eating our fill, it felt like a shame to leave right away, so we stopped by the dessert corner too. As shown in the photos, omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) and coffee were available for a simple drink after the meal.

![Omija tea dessert corner after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-19-mnjrw-966.webp)

![Coffee available at the dessert corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set/asan-tangjeong-mackerel-lunch-set-20-1n2to-966.webp)

I refreshed my palate with the sweet-tart omija tea, while my friend also grabbed a cup of coffee. Being able to handle everything from the meal to dessert in one place made it feel like an easy choice for a lunch meetup.

## My honest verdict on Busan-e Tteun Godeungeo in Asan

My friend and I both already love mackerel, so we went in with expectations, and overall it was satisfying. The mackerel was a good size, well seasoned, and paired nicely with the warm pot rice.

I also liked being able to help myself to as many side dishes as I wanted at the self-serve bar. Being a newly opened place, the clean facilities and convenient parking made it a low-stress spot for lunch too.

If you want to enjoy grilled mackerel, pot rice, and an array of Korean side dishes all at once, it's worth a stop as a Tangjeong Station restaurant for Korean food. It also seemed like a good option to remember as an Asan Korean restaurant for a meal with parents or a hearty lunch with a friend. As mackerel lovers, my friend and I will probably be back whenever we're craving that warm pot rice again.
