Six of us drove out to Eochongye 1beonji on Bandalseom island in Ansan for a weekend outing and dug into a large seasonal mixed sashimi platter and a large red snapper mixed sashimi platter. Let me introduce this Ansan restaurant we visited while enjoying the cool sea breeze~

## Eochongye 1beonji's menu board and how big the restaurant is

*A spacious, clean dining room*

Eochongye 1beonji has a very spacious and clean basement parking lot in the building, so you can park comfortably for free without worrying about space.

Walking inside, the open interior is quite large with plenty of roomy tables set up, making it perfect for family gatherings as well as company dinners with lots of people.

There are also plenty of sturdy baby chairs prepared so families with young children can eat comfortably — a nice touch of care from the owner.

Once you sit down, you can browse the menu photos and order comfortably through the smart kiosk installed at each table, and payment is handled at the counter on your way out after the meal, which is convenient.

## Side dishes served in two sets for the table of six

After ordering, the first thing served is a warm, richly brewed seaweed soup, which is a nice, gentle way to soothe an empty stomach.

Next, a variety of side dishes to go with the main sashimi are neatly laid out, filling the wide table. Fresh cabbage salad and cool white kimchi, seaweed with a strong ocean scent, savory beondegi (silkworm pupae), ssamjang, sliced garlic, salty braised mushrooms, fresh lettuce for wraps, and spicy cheongyang chili peppers — the basic banchan spread is very generous and satisfying.

Since six of us came together this time and sat spread out along a long table, the owner thoughtfully served two full sets of side dishes at each end. Thanks to that, no one had to reach far for banchan — everyone could eat comfortably and leisurely right where they sat.

On one side of the table, generous containers of savory bonito-flavored soy sauce for sashimi and sweet-and-tangy vinegared gochujang are set out, so you can refill as much as you like according to your taste without having to call a staff member every time you run low.

## What comes on the large seasonal and large red snapper sashimi platters

The first main dish we carefully chose was the large seasonal mixed sashimi platter, generously loaded with glossy flounder and two kinds of seasonal fish. True to a fast-turnover Bandalseom favorite, the sashimi on the table is extremely fresh, and from the moment you pick it up with chopsticks, the firm, chewy texture is excellent.

The fish is so fresh that even without vinegared gochujang or ssamjang, just a light dip in the bonito soy sauce lets the naturally sweet flavor of the sashimi come through richly with every chew. Thanks to such excellent food to pair with drinks, a cold drink naturally comes to mind — it's the freshest, most satisfying mixed sashimi.

Next came the large red snapper mixed sashimi platter, diversely composed of the premium red snapper, the nationally beloved flounder, and two kinds of seasonal fish. Red snapper's distinctively chewy, firm skin texture is captivating, and since the platter is mostly made up of clean white fish, the springy, mild flavor is superb the more you chew.

## Handmade shrimp tempura and crab seafood ramyeon

Following the abundant sashimi, the handmade shrimp tempura we ordered as a side was enormous, filling a large plate to the brim — it almost looked like giant tiger shrimp had been battered and fried. Inside the thin, crispy batter, plump, juicy shrimp meat is packed in without a gap, so with each bite the shrimp's naturally sweet, savory flavor and aroma spread richly through your mouth.

Once you've had your fill of cold sashimi, a spicy, hot soup naturally comes to mind — and the crab seafood ramyeon is perfect for that. Loaded with plump crab, various fresh seafood, and a whole large shrimp, the broth is refreshing with a deep ocean flavor.

The broth is quite spicy and sharp, so it might make those who can't handle spice break a sweat, but it does a great job cutting through the richness of the sashimi, making it an excellent side dish to pair with raw fish.

## How does the mixed mulhoe with sesame oil taste?

Another signature dish at Eochongye 1beonji is the mixed hoe-muchim (raw fish in cold, seasoned broth). The broth, dotted with thin ice, is pleasantly sweet, tangy, and spicy without being overly aggressive, so anyone can comfortably drink it straight from the bowl for a refreshing finish.

The most special thing about this restaurant's hoe-muchim is that the tangy broth is generously mixed with savory sesame oil, so after the cool, spicy flavor, a pleasant nuttiness lingers in your mouth for a long time.

*Savory mixed hoe-muchim*

The cool broth is generously loaded with whatever fresh seafood came in that day, including chewy abalone that's fun to bite into, making it a real pleasure to scoop out with a spoon.

After eating your fill of the seafood, tossing the soft somyeon noodles served separately into the cool, savory broth makes for a perfectly refreshing way to finish the meal.

## Final verdict on Eochongye 1beonji on Bandalseom ★★★★★

Thanks to convenient parking, a spacious dining room, and generous side dishes, this is an excellent restaurant for family gatherings or group dinners. You can enjoy a complete seafood feast — chewy, fresh seasonal sashimi, savory hoe-muchim, and hearty seafood ramyeon.

If you're looking for a proper Bandalseom favorite to pair with an Ansan drive, I highly recommend Eochongye 1beonji!
