Hi everyone~!! Today my boyfriend and I heard there's a great jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) spot before heading to Starfield Hanam, so we went to Jigueseo On Jjukkumi Hanam Main Branch.

The building stands alone, set back from the road. Maybe that's why it's so big — it has an old-school family restaurant feel that's really cozy.

The dining area splits left and right from the entrance, and the tables are big overall — the large ones could easily seat 4 to 6 people. There's also group seating further inside, so groups don't need to worry either~

## Ordering the perilla-oil jjukkumi set: the banchan first

Jigueseo On Jjukkumi is apparently famous for its perilla-oil jjukkumi hotpot rice set and fresh cod clear soup, and we picked the perilla-oil jjukkumi set from those. I really love jjukkumi.

First off, I was surprised by the banchan (side dishes). They were varied and clean, almost hanjeongsik (Korean course meal) level. Salad, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), cold mixed vegetables, seaweed soup, and even pollack roe. Everything was seasoned just right and delicious.

### Point one: perilla oil pressed at a local mill

The first standout point of the jjukkumi set is the perilla oil that comes with it, freshly pressed from a local mill!! That's today's highlight. I'll mix it with the jjukkumi and rice in a bit.

And finally, a neat, well-arranged spread arrives. I was too busy eating to even try finding all the side dishes..

### Point two: hotpot rice instead of a plain bowl of rice

The second standout point of the jjukkumi set — unlike other places, they give you hotpot rice instead of a regular bowl of rice. The smell of freshly cooked rice is amazing. Inside the pot there's sweet pumpkin, beans, and more. After scooping out all the rice, they add water so you can enjoy it as sungnyung (scorched rice tea) later~

## How big is the jjukkumi, and how spicy is the sauce?

The third standout point — the jjukkumi is unbelievably huge. At first I thought it might be nakji (long-arm octopus), they were that plump and tender. Honestly the softest and biggest jjukkumi I've had recently.

Mixing the big jjukkumi pieces and perilla oil into the hotpot rice like this is so delicious. The sauce isn't heavy or spicy. 'Clean' is probably the best word for it. The owner said they make the sauce themselves using Korean red pepper powder, apple, pear, shiitake, gugija (goji berries), and omija (schisandra berries) for a gentle finish on the stomach. We genuinely talked the whole meal about how much our parents would love this place and said we should bring them next time.

The sauce looks red, but it's not spicy at all haha.

And here's the kicker — it's also great eaten with the pollack roe they give you. It's not too salty and the combination works so well that we asked for a refill.

Finishing off with the sungnyung at the end made for a really full, satisfying meal. Since even the last course was warm and hearty, I felt good and my stomach wasn't heavy afterward, which I really appreciated.

These days, when people think of jjukkumi stir-fry, they often picture heavy, spicy sauce and a drinking snack. But Jigueseo On Jjukkumi isn't spicy or harsh, and the owner reportedly makes the sauce fresh every day with a gentle stomach in mind, which gave me confidence. Eating such a clean jjukkumi set with hotpot rice felt like being treated to something special. It's the kind of meal that naturally makes you think of your parents. If you're in Hanam and craving jjukkumi and hotpot rice with your parents or elders, I'd recommend this place.
