## In short

Ppong Sashimi is a course-meal sashimi restaurant on Chungjang-daero 5beon-gil, between Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong in Busan. Two diners ordered the assorted sashimi B course (60,000 won per person, for two) and worked through banchan, sushi, cold pork, tuna yukhoe, seafood, assorted sashimi, then a second round of tuna sashimi, beef hot pot, fried shrimp and cheese scallops, finishing with jiritang (clear fish soup) and albap (rice with roe). Ppong Sashimi is not raw fish alone — the hot dishes keep coming until you are completely full.

Today I went to Ppong Sashimi with a friend who had never really had a full course meal before — I wanted her to try a variety of good sashimi and seafood. Since a course meal comes out in stages, one dish after another, I figured it would be a fun, different kind of meal for her, and I was looking forward to it.

Ppong Sashimi sits between Nampo-dong and Jung-ang-dong, so it was easy to find. The exterior has a big, eye-catching sign with bamboo-style decorations, giving it a slightly different vibe from your typical sashimi restaurant.

## Private room seating at Ppong Sashimi: good for group dinners?

Inside, the space is divided into partitioned rooms. Being separated from other tables made it comfortable to chat and eat with my friend, and it also looked like a good spot for family meals or group gatherings.

I'd heard this is a spot a lot of celebrities visit, and sure enough there were tons of autographs on the wall 👍👍

## What comes with the assorted sashimi B course, 60,000 won per person?

We ordered the Ppong Sashimi assorted sashimi B course for two, ₩60,000 per person. They say they source fresh live-fish sashimi and seasonal seafood every dawn to build the course, so I was excited to see what would come out.

First came the basic banchan (side dishes). A simple salad, white kimchi, and rolled egg were laid out to go with the sashimi and gently woke up our appetites.

The sushi came in three kinds — white fish, salmon, and sweet shrimp. Since the course is so protein-heavy, it was nice to get some rice in there, and the seasoning on the rice wasn't too strong, which I liked.

This looked like cold pork. It was nice to get another protein besides fish — pork this time — and eating it with the onions underneath gave it a clean, refreshing flavor.

I thought it was just regular yukhoe (raw beef tartare) at first, but it turned out to be tuna yukhoe. It was soft and just as tasty as beef yukhoe.

Even though it's called a sashimi course, it's not all raw fish from the start — sushi and cold pork and other dishes come out together, so there was plenty to eat right from the beginning. The abalone porridge was soft and easy to eat, and having seaweed soup alongside it made the start of the meal feel really filling.

### The seafood plate: sea squirt, abalone and horn shell

Next came the seafood. Sea squirt, abalone, horn shell, and more all arrived together, so it was fun trying one of each kind.

The abalone had a nice crunchy texture, and the horn shell was chewy in a good way. I think texture matters a lot with seafood, and going back and forth between all the different textures here was great.

### The main sashimi platter: red seabream, flounder and salmon

Then finally the main event arrived — the assorted sashimi. Red seabream, flounder, salmon, and more kinds of sashimi were piled generously onto one plate. The slices were on the thicker side overall, with a chewy texture that I really liked. Compared to thin-sliced sashimi, you could really feel the bite in each piece, and it tasted fresh too.

Each type of sashimi had a slightly different texture, so it was fun picking out favorites with my friend. If you're eating sashimi in Nampo-dong and want to try a lot of varieties at once, this seemed like a great option.

And even after this first round of food, it wasn't over.

![Tuna sashimi served in the second course](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-18-5twrw-900.webp)

## Second round: tuna sashimi, beef hot pot and cheese scallops

The Ppong Sashimi course continued into a second round of dishes. The tuna sashimi had some fat marbling that made for a soft texture — where regular sashimi has that chewy bite, the tuna melted in a different, equally charming way.

![Beef hot pot with mung bean sprouts and ginkgo nuts](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-19-90aj5-900.webp)

The beef hot pot warmed our cold throats back up, acting like a booster that got us ready to keep eating everything that came after. The hot pot had beef, mung bean sprouts, tofu, and even ginkgo nuts in it — my first ginkgo nuts of the year, haha.

![Fried shrimp served with curry powder](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-20-198oo-900.webp)

The fried shrimp had a crispy batter (looked like shredded potato) that went really well with the shrimp's texture. They gave us curry powder to dip it in, and that turned out to be its own little delicacy — so crispy!

![Cheese shrimp topped with melted cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-21-2yo1s-900.webp)

The cheese shrimp was delicious, with a sweet sauce and cheese that paired really well with the shrimp. The shrimp meat also slid right out, which made it easy to eat. The cheese scallops had cheese melted on top for a savory-sweet flavor, and the grilled abalone was served warm, offering yet another feel compared to the raw sashimi we'd had earlier.

Then came braised fish head, so we really got to try a huge range of dishes. It would've been nice if it had ended there, but haha — there was still one more course to go.

![Jirigae soup served at the end of the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-23-1lzs4-900.webp)

### The finish: jiritang (clear fish soup) and one albap pot per person

To finish, we got jirigae (clear fish soup) and egg rice. The jirigae was cool and refreshing, which was perfect after all the food we'd already had. It wasn't heavy or intense — the broth had a clean finish that I enjoyed a lot.

![Egg rice served in an individual stone hot pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner/bbong-sashimi-nampodong-course-dinner-24-rkiwk-900.webp)

The egg rice came out one hot pot per person, and the portion was pretty big. Each warm stone pot was packed full, which made for a hearty finish — but since we'd already eaten so much beforehand, by the end I was completely stuffed, haha.

## Who is the Ppong Sashimi course best for?

Overall, this was a really generously served course. From the banchan to the sushi, cold pork, seafood, assorted sashimi, tuna sashimi and various hot dishes, all the way to the jirigae and egg rice — having it all come out in stages made for a fun, varied meal.

My friend, who didn't know course meals could be this elaborate, enjoyed it a lot and said she'd want to come back again. I was satisfied too, getting to enjoy everything from sashimi to seafood to warm cooked dishes at this course restaurant in Nampo-dong.
