I happened to be out near Gangnam Station to take care of some banking, and while looking for somewhere to eat alone, I suddenly got such a craving for ramen. They had just the right amount of springiness and held onto the broth so well—it made me realize just how important noodles are in ramen. They were such a great match with the rich broth. It almost rivaled the really delicious ramen I had in Osaka last time, haha. The toppings were pretty generous too. Meat on its own could feel a little heavy, but the scallions made it work so much better. It’s a great side to order if one bowl of ramen feels a little incomplete. ## Free noodle, rice, and broth refills, plus Korean kimchi And here’s something I really loved about Oreno Ramen! You can get free refills of noodles, rice, and broth. I was already full after the Kara Paitan and tsukune, so I couldn’t manage a refill, but I think anyone with a big appetite would be really satisfied. It seems like a major plus, especially for men or anyone who finds one bowl of ramen a little insufficient. Another thing I personally liked was that the kimchi was made in Korea. It’s not easy to find Korean-made kimchi at restaurants these days, so I was oddly happy to see it listed as domestic on the country-of-origin label. Having a bite of kimchi now and then while eating the rich, nutty ramen refreshed my palate too. The staff were really kind too. Some restaurants can feel slightly awkward when you first walk in alone, but here I could eat comfortably without that kind of pressure. I’d been curious about this place after seeing it on YouTube so many times, and after visiting, I could see why so many people keep coming back. The noodles especially impressed me, and the rich, nutty, slightly spicy Kara Paitan was exactly my kind of ramen. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat alone near Gangnam Station or craving rich chicken-broth ramen, definitely give it a try. Next time, I want to try their signature Tori Paitan too.
