Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch is a single-pot shabu-shabu restaurant on Janghan-ro in Dongdaemun, Seoul. The writer and her husband ordered one Shabu Torang shabu and one sukiyaki for dinner, added extra meat and vegetables, ate the sukiyaki with butter and broth dipped in egg-yolk sauce, then swapped the broth to finish with cream pasta. These days even a single meal isn't cheap. While looking for a good-value lunch in Jang-an-dong, I visited Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch, where you can enjoy shabu-shabu in your own individual pot.

I always thought of shabu-shabu as something you eat with a group, but here it's built from the start around one pot per person, so it seemed fine for solo dining too. I think this is worth sharing with anyone looking for a place to eat alone in Jang-an-dong.

## Location and atmosphere at Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch

Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch is located on Janghan-ro in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.

Each table has its own cooking setup, so even if you come with someone else, you can each choose the menu you want.

The seating is set up well for solo dining, and I actually saw a lot of people eating alone.

The table setting is sized for one, so there isn't a lot of extra room, but there's a storage compartment for bags or coats, so the dining space itself didn't feel uncomfortable.

## Two broths ordered: Shabu Torang shabu and sukiyaki

I came for dinner with my husband, and we ordered one Shabu Torang shabu and one sukiyaki. We also added meat and vegetables to the basic setup.

![Basic setup of Shabu Torang shabu and sukiyaki](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangandong-shabu-sukiyaki-cream-pasta/jangandong-shabu-sukiyaki-cream-pasta-08-yxhqm-900.webp)

![Plate of the additionally ordered meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangandong-shabu-sukiyaki-cream-pasta/jangandong-shabu-sukiyaki-cream-pasta-09-1px1w-900.webp)

Shabu Torang shabu is a clean, standard shabu-shabu broth base that's good for enjoying the hot pot classic, while the sukiyaki has a soy-sauce-based flavor, so ordering both together gave us two very different experiences.

For the sukiyaki, we prepared it as guided, adding butter and broth.

The sukiyaki comes with an egg-yolk sauce, and you can order more if you want.

## After-dish: cream pasta, with the broth swapped out

At Shabu Torang, you can choose from a range of after-dishes like pasta or risotto after finishing your shabu-shabu. After eating the sukiyaki, I added cream pasta as my finishing dish.

Maybe because you eat a soy-sauce-based dish like sukiyaki first and finish with a cream sauce, I found this order to be quite good.

If it had been cream sauce from the start, it might have felt a bit heavy, but eating the salty sukiyaki first and then moving to soft cream pasta at the end gave a real sense of the flavors changing within a single meal. The sukiyaki broth had reduced a lot and gotten quite salty, so I had the broth swapped before making the pasta. You can adjust to your taste depending on how the broth you used for shabu-shabu turned out.

Eating pasta after shabu-shabu felt a little unexpected at first, but being able to choose even the finishing dish like this seems to be part of the fun at Shabu Torang.

## ₩7,900, and why solo dining is easy here

The biggest strength of Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch is, I think, the price. The base menu is ₩7,900! It's not a burden, so even adding meat or vegetables, you can get a full meal for roughly what you'd pay for an hour's wages, which I liked.

Given today's dining-out prices, being able to eat shabu-shabu in Jang-an-dong at this price felt like a pretty big advantage.

Especially at lunchtime, when you're eating alone, wanting shabu-shabu can feel awkward because it seems like something you need a group for. But here, the one-pot-per-person setup means you can visit alone fairly comfortably and choose your own broth and menu, which makes it a good option among Dongdaemun spots for solo dining.

## Parking is available, but not spacious

We used the parking lot behind the restaurant, and while parking is possible, the space isn't very generous. During our meal we actually got a call about moving the car, and the space itself is tight, so I wouldn't call parking convenient.

If you're visiting by car, note that parking is available, but depending on the time it could be difficult.

## Summary

Shabu Torang Jang-an Direct Branch seems like a good place to visit when you want to enjoy a variety of shabu-shabu options and a warm meal without spending much.

- Easy for solo dining thanks to the one-pot-per-person setup
- Choose between shabu-shabu and sukiyaki depending on your taste
- Add meat and vegetables to adjust the portion
- A range of after-dishes beyond kalguksu, porridge and fried rice, including pasta

Beyond the familiar kalguksu, porridge or fried rice, there are also dishes like pasta at the end, so the meal felt more substantial than expected. If you're looking for good-value lunch in Jang-an-dong or a place to eat alone in Dongdaemun, this is worth a visit!
