## In short

Ju Myeongdang is a Korean restaurant in Dong-gu, Gwangju, serving a grilled meat spread in private rooms. We enjoyed the Auntie’s Table with our child without worrying about a tabletop grill or splattering oil, and received 1 hour of ACC parking. Verdict: Ju Myeongdang is a relaxed choice for a family meat meal.

Whenever the weekend evening rolled around, finding a good Dongmyeong-dong restaurant where we could comfortably take our child was always such a big worry. I was desperately craving delicious, nicely browned meat, but the thought of seating my child beside a hot grill and feeding them had me exhausted before we even started.

Even at the door of Ju Myeongdang, known as a Korean dining bar with a lovely atmosphere, my husband and I honestly hesitated for quite a while. “It has a bar-like vibe—will it be okay to bring our child in?” But the moment we saw photos showing that the meat came fully grilled from the kitchen and ready to eat, we opened the door without another thought.

## How to use the ACC affiliated parking lot

The alleys in Dongmyeong-dong are so narrow and complicated that parking is always the first worry whenever we drive out, right? Thankfully, parking at the affiliated lot for the Asia Culture Center (ACC), National Asia Culture Center, very close to the restaurant came with 1 hour of free parking.

- How to apply: Once seated, find the parking-support option on the tablet screen and add it to your cart for ₩0—that’s it.
- Extra cost: For passenger cars, the base rate is ₩800 plus ₩400 per 15 minutes, so even if you go a little over 1 hour, the cost is very modest.
- Getting there: Take the underground parking garage elevator up to the first floor, and it is just a short walk to the restaurant building. The route was really convenient.

## Six private rooms where you do not have to worry about others

As soon as we entered the second-floor restaurant, the breeze from the ceiling fan, green plants, and soft lighting came together to create such a cozy feeling.

The vintage-style retro posters on the walls and the cute character pictures were more than enough to catch our child’s eye.

What I loved most was that there were six separate rooms where you could close the door and settle in. Even if our child made noise or got fussy, it felt like we could spend time cozily as just our family without worrying about other people. If you are looking for a Dongmyeong-dong restaurant worthy of a family meal out, this is a great point to consider.

## The signature Auntie’s Table, without lifting a finger

As soon as we sat down, we ordered the signature Auntie’s Table (Imo Bapsang) without hesitation. The meat arrived browned to just the right degree over the kitchen burners and plated in a big bowl; the moment it reached the table, that savory charcoal aroma swept right up to my nose.

The thick cuts of meat were surrounded by sweet-and-spicy shredded scallions, crisp seasoned bean sprouts, and grilled aged kimchi. There was no concern about oil splattering, and we did not have to pick up tongs or scissors, so it had been such a long time since we had enjoyed a meal this relaxed.

I cut a piece of meat into a small bite and put it on our child’s tray, and perhaps because it was so tender and juicy, they polished off a whole bowl of rice with the meat in no time.

For the grown-up palate, the spicy earthenware-pot stew that came with it was just the thing; its rich broth neatly cut through the meat’s richness.

Then we filled up on bibimbap (mixed rice) and naengmyeon (cold noodles), and even had a highball. It felt as though the fatigue that had built up all week simply melted away.

I could fully understand why it is loved as a Dongmyeong-dong restaurant with such skillful, home-style cooking.

## A few honest notes to know before visiting

It was a lovely meal, but I also gathered a few things that would be good to know before you go.

- Stairs: The restaurant is on the second floor with no elevator, so carrying up a bulky stroller could be a little difficult. A baby carrier would be much easier.
- When to visit: From around 7 p.m., weekend groups filled the outer dining hall and it got busy. If you are with a child, I recommend arriving a little earlier, between 5:30 and 6 p.m.
- Parking time: With only 1 hour of free parking, the time may feel a little tight if you want to dine leisurely while looking after a child.

Just being able to feed our child meat comfortably without sweating in front of a tabletop grill made this such a satisfying time. If you are looking this weekend for a neat, fully set meat meal in Dongmyeong-dong without parking worries, perhaps stop by Ju Myeongdang, with its comfortable private rooms.
