## In short

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Jeju black pork restaurant a short walk from Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The blogger ordered the signature Jeju Bansang set (₩69,000) with staff-grilled ogyeopsal and mokssal, a seafood doenjang jjigae with abalone, and finished with minari kimchi fried rice. Wide table spacing kept the smoke smell down, making it a solid pick for a family dinner or a company outing.

## Good to know

I've been an office worker near Sunae Station for 8 years now 🙋🏻‍♀️ When you go looking for good spots around Sunae Station for meals or company dinners, you sometimes realize the options aren't actually that many. But there's one place I can confidently recommend as a Sunae Station restaurant. It's this Sunae Station BBQ spot, Jeju Monteurak! 🥩✨ It specializes in Jeju black pork, the meat is great, and the staff grill it for you so you can eat comfortably — the best part!

## Why your clothes don't smell like smoke here

One thing I care about a lot at BBQ places is table spacing! At a lot of BBQ spots the tables are packed so tight you get hit with the neighboring table's smoke and meat smell too, but at Jeju Monteurak the gap between tables is relatively wide, so the meal felt pretty comfortable the whole time. This matters more than you'd think haha. I want to enjoy my meat, but I really don't want my clothes soaked in smell afterward 😂

Before, I used to come here for round two after playing hard with my kid at the Sunae Flex kids' café, to recharge. This time we played hard in Seoul first, then came over to Sunae for a proper recharge dinner. 💪🏻

## What's in the ₩69,000 Jeju Bansang set

We ordered Jeju Monteurak's signature menu, the Jeju Bansang set — ₩69,000. It's a set for two with Jeju black pork ogyeopsal (pork belly) and mokssal (pork neck), plus a jjigae (stew). You can choose between kimchi jjigae and seafood doenjang jjigae. We'd actually had pork just two days before haha, and that time we had kimchi jjigae, so this time we went straight for the seafood doenjang jjigae, no hesitation.

At most Jeju geungogi (thick-cut pork) restaurants, sets pair mokssal and samgyeopsal, and usually they grill the mokssal first. But at Jeju Monteurak, they started with the ogyeopsal!

![Jeju black pork ogyeopsal placed on the grill first](https://img.superchart.com/images/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice-05-1gu6h-900.webp)

The staff member grilled the meat so neatly that just watching made me hungrier. 😆 They cut the meat into evenly sized, easy-to-eat pieces, and watching it turn golden brown built up my anticipation to the max!

### First bite of ogyeopsal: just salt

Finally, the first bite! As always, I started with the most basic method — dipped in salt. The signature savory fat flavor of ogyeopsal and the deep meaty aroma of Jeju black pork spread through my mouth, and the more I chewed, the more the savoriness built up. The surface was grilled golden and slightly crisp, while the inside stayed juicy, so every bite was packed with flavor. I really do think you need to try the first bite with just salt to get the true taste of the meat. 👍🏻

### Grilled baek-kimchi, shrimp-garlic oil sauce, and asparagus combo

The second bite was a bit different! I tried it with grilled baek-kimchi (white kimchi) + shrimp-garlic oil sauce + asparagus. This combo was pretty great. The savory, rich pork got an umami boost from the shrimp-garlic oil sauce, while the grilled baek-kimchi added a subtle tang that cut through the richness. Adding the asparagus too gave it a crunchy, fragrant note, so it was fun mixing up combinations bite by bite.

And I can't leave out my favorite — wasabi. 💚 A little wasabi on the clean but rich black pork, and the sharp, distinctive kick cleans up the fatty richness of the meat, so I kept reaching for it.

With salt, wasabi, baek-kimchi, and more side accompaniments laid out, it was nice being able to taste something a little different each time, even though it's the same meat.

## How was the mokssal

Next up, the mokssal! Honestly... is this pork or steak~~~~~~ 😂🥩 One thing I notice every time I eat Jeju geungogi is how tender the mokssal is. It's a completely different level from the mokssal you'd usually buy at the supermarket.

![Thick-cut Jeju black pork mokssal](https://img.superchart.com/images/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice-12-c2hny-900.webp)

You might expect mokssal to be dry, but Jeju Monteurak's mokssal had just the right balance of fat and lean meat, so it wasn't tough or dry at all — it was moist and tender. Since the staff grill it directly, the doneness was consistent every time too. The surface was grilled golden with a savory aroma alive, while the inside stayed moist, so the more you chewed the more juice and clean pork flavor came through.

Personally, I found the ogyeopsal's savory, rich flavor and the mokssal's clean, tender texture equally appealing. Eating them together, I never got tired of it and kept going. 😋

## Seafood doenjang jjigae with abalone

And then there's the seafood doenjang jjigae that came with the Jeju Bansang set! True to its name, it was loaded with seafood — king prawn, scallop, and even abalone were in there. 🦐🦪

![Seafood doenjang jjigae with king prawn, scallop, and abalone](https://img.superchart.com/images/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice-17-1y5en-900.webp)

I was especially surprised because I think it was my first time seeing abalone in a doenjang jjigae haha. Usually at BBQ restaurants, doenjang jjigae is just treated as a side dish you have alongside the meat, but Jeju Monteurak's seafood doenjang jjigae was packed with seafood, so the broth itself was rich and refreshing. The savory, salty depth of the doenjang combined with the umami drawn out from the seafood made for a deep, clean broth. Eating meat then having a warm spoonful of the doenjang jjigae broth cleaned my palate, and I'd go right back to the meat again. 😂

## Finished off with minari kimchi fried rice

And there was one dish I really wasn't expecting... minari kimchi fried rice! Rice wasn't included in the set, so I was looking at the menu thinking about adding a bowl, when I spotted minari (water dropwort) kimchi fried rice, which I'd missed earlier. Couldn't resist that haha, ordered it like I was hypnotized.

![Extra-ordered minari kimchi fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice/sunae-jeju-black-pork-minari-kimchi-fried-rice-19-1pb2a-900.webp)

First off, the kimchi fried rice itself is delicious. The moderately spicy and tangy kimchi flavor blended with the savory fried rice aroma, making it perfect for finishing off a meat meal. But the minari is the real kick! 🌿 The fragrant, fresh scent of minari came through in every bite of the fried rice, making it feel much lighter than your usual kimchi fried rice. The spicy, salty kimchi combined with the fragrant, slightly crunchy minari made for a much better combination than I expected. After eating meat, your mouth can feel a bit greasy, and the minari's fragrance wipes that right away!

Meat → doenjang jjigae → minari kimchi fried rice. Eating in that order made for a truly perfect dinner. 😆

It's a great spot to bring your kid and recharge with delicious meat, and also a solid place for office workers to grab dinner and chat after work! I'm already deciding this will be my next company dinner spot haha. If you're looking for a Sunae Station restaurant, a Sunae Station BBQ place, or a Seongnam company dinner spot, give Jeju Monteurak a try! 🥩❤️
