Today Lovely Ppeumi went looking for snacks during a Sokcho trip and ended up at a well-known Sokcho bakery café, 'Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store.'

This is a place that bakes its own potato bread fresh every morning using Gangwon-do potatoes, and it's become well known as a quirky Sokcho specialty snack 😊

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store sits between Sokcho IC and Hanwha Resort, near Plaza CC, so it's easy to swing by during a Sokcho trip. It's also close to Sono Felice and Sono Calm Delphino, and about a 15-minute drive from Sokcho Beach or Sokcho Jungang Market, so it fits nicely into a travel route.

## Window sofa seats and the atmosphere inside Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread

The exterior of Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is painted in a distinctive style that catches your eye from far away.

Stepping inside, the space is decorated in wood tones with green plants scattered around, giving it the feel of being at a resort 🌿

The whole front is a floor-to-ceiling window, so natural light pours in and it's a relaxing spot to sit and take in the view outside.

There are also sofa seats, which made me think this is a great Sokcho bakery café to rest at for a while during a trip 😊

## What kind of bread is Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread?

The signature menu item here is, of course, Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread.

Unlike typical potato bread, its biggest feature is that it's black.

To capture the color of Sokcho, they use squid ink for the color, and the surface is coated with ground grain powder made from black sesame, black beans, and black rice.

The filling is made from Gangwon-do potatoes, but instead of boiling or steaming them, they're roasted.

That's apparently done to bring out the plain, nutty flavor unique to roasted potatoes — so there's quite a bit of care put into a single potato bread.

Besides potato bread, they also sell oranda (a Korean snack) and Sokcho Jjondeugi. Sokcho Jjondeugi takes the classic Korean chewy snack, jjondeugi, and adds Sokcho's local specialties, coming in three flavors: snow crab, squid, and fried chicken.

Another thing that caught my eye was the muse-toy painting experience.

You choose either Muski or Muspi and paint whatever picture or writing you like onto a ceramic figurine to create your own muse-toy.

At first, the black color felt a bit unusual,

but on the first bite, what came through first was a plain, nutty flavor, more mellow than I expected.

The grain powder on the outside gives off a subtle nutty aroma, and the potato filling inside kept the plain flavor unique to roasted potatoes.

With cream cheese and butter mixed in, there's a soft richness too, which paired well with coffee 👍

They say the potato bread tastes even better if warmed in the microwave for about 20 seconds; for frozen ones, heat for 30 seconds, flip, then heat for another 20 seconds or so.

The classic chewy texture of jjondeugi combined with a salty squid flavor kept me reaching for more than I expected 😋

It's good as a simple snack, and also works well as a light drinking snack.
